AkBrian
A simple question that I can't get an answer to. What 10/100/1000 (gigabit) network card is the best for linux? Mandrake 10.0 is my main distro, but I play around with others, fedora, slackware, etc. I really don't care if it's the cheapest or absolute fastest NIC, just as long as it absolutly NO-HASSLE under the current versions of the main distro's. All opinions and suggestions are appreciated. For a gigabit switch, I'm leaning toward a D-Link 5 port, cause of good reviews, and a low price, but haven't bought anything yet. -Thanks AkBrian
Cannonfodder
I haven't bought a gigabit NIX but I do like d-link. I bought a wireless router and really boosted my connection and reliability by 50% compared to the Toshiba wireless junk I had before..
AkBrian
In looking a little more at gig switchs, the SMC 8505T also seems pretty nice cause it does Jumbo Frames like the $$$ switches do, and has a 768k buffer. ~$125us(pricewatch). Still no more info on the NIC's however. I sure like the other D-Link hardware I've bought before though. -AkBrian http://www.smc.com/drivers_downloads/libra.../8505_08_DS.pdf
