Ixthusdan
Why not simply download the two files and install the from the command line? B)
arthur
kernel 2.6.3 has about 5 dependencies. kmc77, you can try downloading them manually and putting them in a local folder, then adding that folder to Media Manager. Or just the kernel rpm, and hopefully urpmi will find the deps on the mirrors. I'm experimenting with other distros right now until mandrake mirrors are fully up. kmc77
Ok where is the best place to find the needed files and their deps?
bvc
Nowhere rt now  ...mirrors are still screwed from the ML-10-CE>Stable fiasco. Probably find it somewhere.....lets see....
bvc
ftp://carroll.aset.psu.edu/pub/.mirrors/2...3-7mdk.i586.rpm ftp://carroll.aset.psu.edu/pub/.mirrors/2...0-1mdk.i586.rpm if you need the source ftp://carroll.aset.psu.edu/pub/.mirrors/2...3-7mdk.i586.rpm dload to a dir>cd /dir>rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.3-7mdk.i586.rpm>as it gives you deps...satisfy them. Everything it needs should be at the same mirror. Now, whether or not that sends you on a neverending dep prob from 9.2 I don't know. You could use urpmi....here's the hdlist location; ftp://carroll.aset.psu.edu/pub/.mirrors/2.../Mandrake/base/ Oh, a simple google found the above :D Edited April 14, 2004 by bvc
kmc77
Yeah, I Googled and found it also, but I keep getting run in circles. Downloaded kernel 2.6.3.4 (i guess that's right), but I try to urpmi it and it has some deps. I install the deps but it still gives me same error. I thought someone might have a better place/way. I tried arthur's reccomendation of this page, but the link there is dead. I'll give your sources a shot.
kmc77
The top file is gone. Got the second already, and downloading the kernel that you posted, as the one I downloaded before was 17 meg and this one is 41 meg. I'll try to trace the dep's down. kmc77
Ok I followed the instructions on this page. Kernel loaded with urpmi, but when I rebooted, I didn't get the option to select my kernel. Did I leave out a step?
arthur
no, I didn't mean to install them separately. just put them in a folder, add that folder into Media manager, then urpmi the kernel. then don't forget to run lilo(type lilo as root in terminal, of course). If the new kernel doesn't appear there, edit /etc/lilo.conf and point it in the right direction. the kernel image should be in /boot/ Edited April 14, 2004 by arthur
