    *  Problem: PowerPack installations when an nvidia video card is present cards do not start X on reboot

o Solution: Run 'depmod -a' as root after reboot or reinstall the nvidia drivers that match your kernel in the nvidia folder of cd3. Or install latest driver (5336) from nvidia website with the appropriate kernel-source.

    * Problem: Totem displays black and white video files with nVidia graphics cards.

o Solution: Adjust Hue setting in menu Edition -> Preferences -> Display tab -> Color balance. The hue slider should be pushed to the far left.

    * Problem: Computer will not boot from CD1

o Solution: Boot with an alternate kernel on CD2 and re-insert CD1 when prompted by the installer

    * Problem Tap-click does not work on Synaptics touchpad.

o Solution Install Synaptics driver from contrib. Follow the instructions in the INSTALL file for configuring the XF86Config-4 file. You may also need to load module evdev in your /etc/modprobe.preload file.

    * Problem: MSI-6380 (K7T266 Pro2) motherboard requires acpi=off noapic at boot time or in the append section of /etc/lilo.conf to recognize usb correctly (chipset via)

o Solution Put in the command line those options or reboot at least once after updating /etc/lilo.conf and running lilo -v in order to recognize your usb devices (for example, the adsl modems sagem fast 800 or comtrend ct-350 in order to get connected to internet...)

    * Problem: eagle-usb driver is on CD 4 of PowerPack? edition, hence cannot be installed if only first 3 CDs downloaded for your ADSL USB modem Sagem Fast800/908 / Comtrend ct-350/361 / at-ar 210/215 / US Robotics SureConnect? 9000

o Solution download the eagle-usb-1.9.5-4mdk.rpm before installing Mandrake10Community and latest version of drakxtools* / hardrake* so that you can install it before launching DrakConnect

    * Problem: ISDN configuration is not available.

o Solution (only a temporary solution) download all pm files from gi/perl-install/network/ and copy them to /usr/lib/libDrakX/network .

    * Problem: Drakfloppy doesn't appear in Mandrake Control center

o Solution kernel is too big because of acpi (needed for laptop), use "/sbin/mkrescue --iso" command to create a bootable iso cdrom.

    * Problem: Mouse or glidepad doesn't work on some laptops

o Solution (only a temporary solution) remove and insert the mouse. Sorry no solution for glidepad. -- Main.guy.forssmanpandora.be - 16 Mar 2004

    * Problem: Windows doesn't boot anymore after modifying partitions table

          o Solutions (only temporary solutions)

            1. ) Change disk access mode to "LBA" in the BIOS settings and reboot in windows should work

            2. ) use a floppy disk from FreeDOS? (http://www.freedos.org/) and do a 'fdisk /mbr' and you should be able to boot again - 17 Mar 2004

    * Problem: Installing all the system on a reiserfs partition yields unusable system. -- Main.gouri+qamdkfree.fr - 21 Mar 2004

o Solution Real reason not investigated. Using ext3 for root partition works. Don't know if /usr /var and others can be reiserfs without problem. Probably it should work.

o Detailed description: - This is an example of a bug report and not an errata. If the problem is re-creatable by many and has a fix, the problem and the fix should be listed, not an entire bug report. If necessary, reference the appropriate bug report in Bugzilla. (Not all details may be relevant, but just in case.) Downloaded Mdk10.0 ISOs and burned them. All MD5 ok. Installing on a Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop. Chosen "use existing partition". The installer probed and detected a mdk9.2 system. I went back to "partitionnement personnalis", removed autoprobed mount points. Changed a 5Gb partition into ReiserFS?, formatted it. Declared it as root and only partition. Installer formatted as reiserfs 3.6. Installation worked ok. On reboot, startup failed because filesystem remained mounted read-only. The reiserfsck on starttup did not complain about the filesystem. The laptop never had any hard disk problem, so filesystem corruption is probably not the cause. Booted single-user. Impossible to get it read-write, even by hand. mount / -o remount,rw complained it was not mounted. /proc/mounts reported "/dev/root" mounted as "/" (which is ok AFAIK). /etc/mtab reported /dev/hda1 mounted as /. Tried mount /dev/hda1 / which refused. Tried with -force. Succeeded but did not change anything, remounting rw still failed. Cannot modify /etc/mtab because of read-only filesystem. Reinstalled everything, directly choosing "partitionnement personnalis". Changed type to ext3, installer reformatted as ext3. Installation went ok. System works now.

    * Problem: Choosing to apply updates at end of install installs packaged from cooker, not 10.0 update. -- Main.gouri+qamdkfree.fr - 21 Mar 2004

o Solution - This is normal and not a problem. The updates will be drawn from the updates directory after offical is released, but for now are being made to Cooker tree.

    * Problem: Upgrading from a previous version of mandrake that uses an encrypted swap partion fails. -- tom.kaitchuck@valpo.edu - 25 Mar 2004

o Work around - When you are alerted to the fact that it cannot mount the swap partition, press ctrl-alt-f2 you will be taken to a console. Your partitions will be mounted under /mnt. Edit your fstab and comment out (with a '#') the line with your swap partition on it. `vi /mnt/etc/fstab`. (If you don't know how to use vi look it up online first.) Save the file. Then press ctrl-alt-f7 and click "ok" the install will go forward. After your system is up and running you can use diskdrake to re-enable your swap partition.

    * Problem: Upgrading a previous version of mandrake that uses LVM for the root partition fails with a lilo error. -- tom.kaitchuck@valpo.edu - 25 Mar 2004

o Work around - This is because the version of lilo on the CD does not understand LVM however the version that it will install does. First make some space on your harddisk that is outside the LVM (250mb should be enough). Do the upgrade as you normally would. When you get to the lilo error press ctrl-alt-backspace. (This will exit the installer, your system will be upgraded but unable to boot.) Then run the installer again this time select installation. Install a new minimal system on a small partition outside the lvm. Set it up to also mount your other partitions. (like on /mnt/root or some other place of your choosing) Boot into your new installation. Run `drakboot` add a new entry called "Upgraded-linux" copy all the settings of "linux" but set "root=/dev/PATH_to_LVM/ROOT" where PATH_to_LVM is your LVM group name and ROOT is the partition NUMBER within the LVM group. (If you don't know what this is do a `df` and copy the device path corresponding with /mnt/root or wherever you mounted the root partion you want to upgrade.) Then reboot, at lilo select "Upgraded Linux" and you should be running on your old system but updated to mandrake 10.0. Then to have normal looking lilo configuration, you can just run drakboot and have it configure things again. The configuration should look normal after you do this. After doing this you should be able to select "linux" and boot into your normal system. You can now safely erase the temporary installation partition you created. All of this is written from memory, so please alert me to any mistakes I have made here.

    * Problem: CdBurning? fails/locks computer and/or system seems slow when using an IDE cdburner in ide-scsi mode -- tom.kaitchuck@valpo.edu - 25 Mar 2004

o Solution - Using a ide CD burner in ide-scsi mode is depreciated in the 2.6 kernel. So go into the mandrake control center, click "boot", then "Boot loader". Then for each option goto modify and remove all the "append" options that look something like: "hdX=ide-scsi". Click OK and finish. Then reboot. When your system comes up you'll need to fix how it is trying to mount your cdrom. So goto the Mandrake control center, click Mount Points, then CD/DVD and it should be able to configure it correctly. Click OK. Then if you want to be able to burn CDs just run `k3bsetup` as root and it should be able to configure things for you.

    * Problem: Some motherboards based on VIA chipsets still have USB related problems with 2.6.x kernels, as evidenced by boot-time syslog messages such as:

usb 1-1: control timeout on ep0in

and later, when you try to use the USB device:

      usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed (...) ret -110

      -- vljubovic@smartnet.ba - 27 Mar 2004

o Workarounds The number of affected motherboards is less with each new kernel revision. Meanwhile, you can try some of the following:

            1. ) Add any or all of the following boot kernel parameters to your /etc/lilo.conf: acpi=off noapic nolapic - and execute "lilo" (In particular, this solves problems for a MSI-6380 motherboard based on K7T266 Pro2 chipset)

            2. ) After boot, execute the following commands:

                  modprobe -r uhci-hcd

                  modprobe uhci-hcd

(In particular, this works for a Chaintech motherboard based on KT133 chipset)

            3. ) Use our 2.4.x kernel.
