My motherboard has a SiS RAID controller, which isn't currently supported in the Kernel, with patching it might work. I found this document which I think is quite helpful: http://www.linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html It would appear that alot of installers won't work with SATA (none in my case) - re kernel in the installer. program. I think the simplist way to get up and running on a newer system with SATA is to cheat, use an IDE drive. BTW: I also found that alot of linux installers wouldn't work or would lock up, they seemed to get confused when probing hardware. I post when I get it working, if you don't hear from me again. The alternative is to create a custom loader, but I didn't want to do that - read don't know how! arthurking Posted April 10, 2004 Report Share Posted April 10, 2004 Hello again. I had no luck with my Sil RAID, and Linux. I'm hoping that Thomas Hosten can come up with the goods here. In the mean time I went out an bought a PATA drive (I only have 2 SATA ports) and installed on that. It was a nice big 120G Western Digital that runs at a glacial pace compared to the RAID setup :unsure: But I followed some links and found a patch here http://seclists.org/lists/linux-kernel/200...3/Dec/att-2132/ But I'm unsure if it works or what. It lists the Sil3114 and the 3112. I'm actually unsure what to do to get it to work, but at least I have Linux running for now. My understanding is with the 2.6 kernel the RAID drivers are gettng a complete work over and have nothing in common with previous drivers. hope this helps. Now for my lm_sensors question...........
