I am trying to install Mandrake version 9.1 so that it can run in a dual boot with Windows XP home edition.

It's an HP computer, and I am installing mandrake from a CD which came with a copy of Linux Format magazine.

what happens is the following:

I install it through the CD, and I have no errors installing. I installed the bootloader onto a floppy disk, and when I put it in a boot with it, I get the normal list of options. But when I select Linux, I get a screen with a small rectangle which flashes a few times, and then stops, and doesn't do anything else.

I really need mandrake to work soon, so please help soon...

also, another question, but not as important: is there any way to install the boot loader for mandrake onto a USB Flash Drive? I have the SanDisk 128 MB cruzer.

thanks in advance.
