penguin_asylum
I am trying to install Mandrake version 9.1 so that it can run in a dual boot with Windows XP home edition. It's an HP computer, and I am installing mandrake from a CD which came with a copy of Linux Format magazine. what happens is the following: I install it through the CD, and I have no errors installing. I installed the bootloader onto a floppy disk, and when I put it in a boot with it, I get the normal list of options. But when I select Linux, I get a screen with a small rectangle which flashes a few times, and then stops, and doesn't do anything else. I really need mandrake to work soon, so please help soon... also, another question, but not as important: is there any way to install the boot loader for mandrake onto a USB Flash Drive? I have the SanDisk 128 MB cruzer. thanks in advance.
Ixthusdan
Why are you using a floppy? Why not install a boot loader on the mbr?
bvc
the bootfloppy was broken in 9.1 and 9.2
aRTee
The bootloader on a floppy was working fine in both 9.1 and 9.2, it was just not possible to make a bootfloppy (with kernel). I'm suspecting bios problems, have you checked your settings?
sitor
That is a known issue. If I'm not mistaken the solution is by changing something in the BIOS. I think it is mentioned on the 10.0CE Errata page of Mandrakesoft. Have a look there. Ciao, Sitor
