SoulSe
I am trying to install Ardour on MDK9 as it seems to be the best Sound Editing program for my needs. Does anyone know if I can cook it and from where, etc? I do not have the skills to get it going from the CVS tree and all the rpms available seem to be for older versions... Guest anon
You get get the src rpm from www.rpmfind.net just type ardour in the search box. Though not the latest from cvs it may improve performance if you can rebuild it from the source rpm.

zero0w
thac, I downloaded and tried, but ardour requires JACK server which I can't get it to work.... also it logged out the whole system without any reason....
thac
to start jack jackd -d alsa -d hw:0 Then start ardour i can confirm the bug that i logs out if you try yto start without a running jack demon. Read about running ardour at ardours homepage. and about jack at jacks homepage it could be advisable to go to alsas homepage an read about how to configure your souncard properly. /thac
zero0w
Just something to add before starting JACK server In console: su cd /usr/lib/jack ln -s jack_alsa.so.0 jack_alsa.so Then one should be also to start the JACK server with the command thac stated. Now I am in ardour... but I don't know what to do .... how can I add & load audio track? Any tutorial on using ardour? EDIT: Just found it, it seems to be rather complicated, but powerful. You can check out the Quick Toots site with various tutorials on Ardour: http://www.boosthardware.com/LAU/quicktoots/
thac
http://www.goldinc.com/~eviltwin/ALSA_JACK_ARDOUR.html http://www.boosthardware.com/LAU/ardour/ Actually you need some kind of midi instrument to work with ardour. You can use a real one through the midi port in real time. Use saved midi tracks made from a real instrument Use some kind of soft midi instrument like my vkeyb kmid + timidity or something else. It takes time to forget the windows way.. Thanks for your rpms. :D I installed linux because of csound and cecilia. Now i get rosegarden and ardour. :D
thac
new version 0.304.0/0.606.0 There is another update this version requires jackit >= 0.41.0 so i have built that rpm to. zero0w
Thank you thac for making those rpms available :) . To the Rosegarden developers: (http://www.all-day-breakfast.com/rosegarden/) Today I convinced my sister to try Rosegarden-4 on Mandrake Linux. To her surprise, everything worked right after installation. She connected the MIDI keyboard to the SB Audigy soundcard. After loading soundfont with sfxload, she played a VGM (FF X) score with the MIDI keyboard, and Rosegarden recorded perfectly what she just played! Now she can work on composing her songs without booting back into Windows. Here, I just want to say: You guys rock! My deep gratitude and thank you to you all. It is fine work such as yours that makes open source and Linux meaningful. -zero0w
