no21
I'm running Mandrake 10 CE, and I'm using Gnome. I can't get my sound to work (even after reading some of the other threads in here). My sound card is described in the Mandrake Control Center as ' [sB Live! Value] EMU10k1X'. I tried the alternative driver and still got nothing. Also, I can't access anything on my CD-ROM drives that are mounted in /mnt. Here are the drive descriptions: HL-DT-ST CD-ROM GCE-8481B (which is a CD-ROM) HL-DT-ST CD-ROM GCR-8481B (which is a CD-RW) They appear to mounted as... /dev/hdc /dev/hdd These aren't the same LG CD drives that I've read about getting fried in Mandrade 9.2, are they? Do I need to download and install new drivers to get these things working? Of course, since I'm a Linux newbie, I've never downloaded and installed new drivers for a device before. Leo
Are you using ALSA? If so it may be that the sound is just muted.
zero0w
EMU10k1X is different from EMU10k1. The former is a Dell model of SB Live!, which is different from the standard SB Live! on the market. The upcoming ALSA 1.0.6 release will support the Dell model: http://mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=17294 Edited August 6, 2004 by zero0w
