I'm a bit confused with a few things in samba... I have a Canon S630 printer set up on my MDK9.0 box, the MDK box uses the printer flawlessly... But when it comes time to share the printer over the network, my XP Pro box can detect it, tells me that the MDK Box has the wrong driver, I say ok and use the XP drivers that were installed on the XP box before, and everything else gets installed fine. But the printer status in the printers dialog lists me as not having permission to access the printer? I've read something about adding SMB users, but can't seem to find any information about how to do that, I'll be sure to put my smb.conf file in here shortly as I'm typing this on my XP box.

 

 

Here's the smb.conf file:

After you get webmin, you should go into konqueor (or whatever) and access https://127.0.0.1:10000/

 

then enter the root user and pass. Then go to the tab saying "servers". Now go to the samba file server setup. Now, what you want to do is convert the users on your linux computers into samba users(this should be around the bottom of the page). Now, go onto your windows box, and create a user with the same name as the one you converted on linux. Now, you should be able to access the printer from your winxp computer(you might have to enter a password, just enter the one of the user you converted on the linux box)

We have seen this also, where all 60 other win2k boxes work fine, but the 2 winxp boxes show "Access Denied", but will print.

 

If they don't print, turn off the XP firewall, which by default firewalls off ports 137-139
