kungfooya
Hello, let me start off by saying I am a linux newbie. I have mandrake 9.2 installed and running fine. So I downloaded the UT2004 demo and could not get it installed. Can anyone give me a step-by-step way to install it? Also, I want to get the linux version of this game when it comes out, and was wondering if the install from the cd will be the same as the download? How does linux install programs from a cd? Thanks for any info, this site has been a huge help for me so far!!! Jason
tyme
you download the file, then open a termina, su to root, and run: sh <filename>.sh the cd will have a file, probably named "linux-installer.sh" on the 3rd cd (well, it was on the 3rd cd for ut2k3) which you will have to copy to your hard drive and then run the same way as you will w/this file. ravage
the cd will have a file, probably named "linux-installer.sh" on the 3rd cd (well, it was on the 3rd cd for ut2k3) which you will have to copy to your hard drive and then run the same way as you will w/this file. the linux installer will be on the 1st disc and you don't need to copy the ut2003 installer off the 3rd disc to install
Qchem
UT2004 will come with 6 CDs or 2 DVDs So you get more on the DVD version? I thought it would be only one DVD.
zero0w
DVD version will come with bonus materials such as videos w/ developers talking about making of UT2004, something like that I believe.

tyme
kungfooya: as this is your thread, i think i'll try to help you in it ;) are you possibly running out of hard drive space? which cd does your issue occur on? is that cd scratched, possibly? just some guesses... kungfooya
hmmmm.......thats a possibility. I have about 7 gigs free space, before the install. The game says it takes about 5.3 gigs of space. Does linux make a temp version of the stuff its installing on the drive? Should I add more space to this drive? Thanks! zero0w
I suspect UT2004 will use /tmp and /usr/local/games/ to store temporary and data files respectively.
arthur
i guess it uses bz2 compression, which is amazing in compression ratio by the way. if you're installing from a 4.7 GB DVD, bz2 can pack in more than thrice that amount. :o
