For those of you that find your pc speaker isn't working anymore with the 2.6 kernel, open up a terminal su to root and modprobe pcspkr this should turn your pc speaker on (for console beeps, xchat beep on highlight, etc) For this to be on every time you boot, edit the file /etc/modprobe.preload and add pcspkr to that file.
