Failed to initialize the NVdriver kernel module!

Ok, so last night I did a kernel recompile to turn on ACPI so power management works on my laptop. After I booted the kernel, and tried to start x, I received the following error messages:

(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVdriver kernel module!

(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***

(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

 

Fatal server error:

no screens found

 

I wasn't changing my XF86Config at all but here it is if that helps:

This same error has happened before and then I just reinstalled MDK to fix it. Maybe it's not the fastest way to fix the problem, but it works! This time around, I have a bunch of other stuff going on so I'd rather not resort to that option. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Whenever you compile the kernel, you have to rebuild NVIDIA.

Before you rebuild your nvidia kernel, and to get you back to a useable screen, edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file and change : Driver "nvidia" to Driver "nv"
