Best way to configure two hard drives using MDK9

I have two 2gig hard drives on a pentium 120 box. I'd like to use one to hold all the internet/network software and the other hard drive to hold workstation programs. One drive doesn't hold all the programs I'd like to use. I'd like some advice as to the best way to mount and partition the drives for this all linux machine.

Linux is new to me but I feel like I'm getting the hang of it. Thanks for any help with this.

Mike

The easiest time to perform partitioning on two hard drives is during the install. If Mandrake is already installed, you want to think about a reinstall.

I am not totally sure what you are asking for here. But here is a possible solution that may work

Drive 1: /root /home

Drive 2: /usr /nfs

Note: /root is actually the root directory and should really be shown as /

This is only my suggestion though.

When you install Mandrake, use Expert install, and partition the drives yourself using DiskDrake. This will allow you to choose exactly where everything goes and allocate the space yourself.

Ultimately, the best solution may be to buy a larger drive.

With my limited knowledge, this is how I would do it:

Disk 1: Divide this between root, home and swap space, your swap partition should be double the size of your RAM, so if you have 128MB RAM then:

partition 1 = about 740MB, with / mount point.

partition 2 = about 1000MB with /home mount point.

partition 3 = about 260MB with /swap mount point

Then use the second disk for your /usr and /nfs points.

That's how I would do it, if most of the space is required for apps.

Thanks for the information. I wasn't having much luck initially, formatting the second hard drive and the best example of adding a second hard drive had it mounted in /document mount point. And that didn't seem quite right. I'm up and running now and hope to get a home server configured when I get a little spare time. Thanks again. Mike
