  1. Hi My machine is a Laptop Compaq Armada E 500, 384 m Ram and 18 GB HDD. It has Mandrake 10.1 CE installled with Gnome and KDE. Yesterday for no apparent reason the Panel BAr on Gnome has disappeared and refuses to come back I have tried typical windows solutions : Loging out, restarting, shut down and restart but none of these crude techniques work.. I don't know what to do. Can some one advice I have uninstalled evollution and reinstallled it apart from that no other software related work has been undertaken. Wlill be very grateful regards Bamboo
  2. I tried the instal of he libatk but now its showing that i need libhtml ..... which I don't have and is not on the Mdk DVD's so I tried copying making sure the .evolution folder from my back ups - but that too does not work - now what the evolution thats on the mdk 10.1 is 2.0.1 - I was using fedora Core 3 evolution and do not remember what it was ONE FINAL question: was thinking of uninstalling evolution and reinstalling it - but I cannot find evolution on the package list in the dvd to instal so what should I do now regards bamboo
  3. will follow the libatk develp route because I want to feel good after compiling something I am using Mandrake 10.1 Community Edition and have not been able to figure out which version of evolution is installed - I thought I would run it and check but have chickened out in case it does not read my past data files will also try the .evolution method to see if that works thanks bamboo
  4. I downloaded evolution 2.0.4 tar.gz file and did the following tar -xzvf "filename" changed to appropriate directory and did ./configure then tried running make it gave me an error saying that no target could be found I repeated the process again and got yet another error message added on saying that "package atk was not found in the pkg-config search path - perhaps you should add the directory containing atk-pc to the PKG_CONFIG_PAH environment variable No Package 'atk' found So what do I do now I need this version of evolution because I need to get all my data from my previous evolution on Fedora Core 3 and I tried using the evolution already on board but I guess this one is a version older than the one I was using previously. thanks bamboo I am still a newbie Moved from Software to Terminal Shell Commands, Kernel and Programming - Artificial Intelligence
  5. Hi I am running Linux on two Compaq Armada E 500's (128 and 384 mb ram) 11 and 18 gb GDD. On both there is a simlar problem they do not read cd's - any cd. They read dvd (-r's) , why and what can be done. They were both converted to Linux from Win XP (after being originallly win 98 and win 2k) and after conversion to linux FC3 and Mandrake they do not even recognzie a cd what's to be done regards bamboo
  6. try using Gnome instead of KDE - it seems to work well with out having to fiddle with code lines and stuff bamboo
  7. I had the same problem but for a default formatted usb drive - thumb drive. I did not work on KDe in Mandrake 10.1 but I just tried it using GNome and Voila it works very well bamboo
  8. Hi I am trying to instal 10.1 CE from a DVD onto a Armada E 500 Compaq Laptop , 128 mb RAM, 11 GB HDD and previously installed with win 98, win Xp Pro- SP2, fc3 . Everytime I boot through the bootable DVD the install passess the Instal Language sequence and then gets stuck at Synaptics Reset Failed Synaptics Reset Failed after this there is no more activity. Whats the problem - also I am not a experienced Linux User will need simple help. Also what is this synaptics - is it only the touch pad driver etc. I found a related question on this website (thorugh Google) but iI am doing a clean instal and it still does not go beyond that error stage. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ne...threadid=291750 Right now Suse 9.1 pro is being installled regards bamboo
  9. Hi I have been using Linux since June04 , the following distro's : FC1, FC2, FC3, Suse 9.1 , and now Mandrake 10.1 CE On none of these is it possible to play VCD's or DVD's bought off the shelf, be it Kaffiene, mplayer, Xine whatever they just don't play it. Why ? And what do I do now - what do I Install and from where ? regards Bamboo Compaq Armada E 500 384 mb RAM 20 GB Hdd
  10. Hi I have just succesfully installed Mandrake 10.1 Community Edition on the following Laptop: Compaq Armada E 500, 384 mb RAM, 18 GB HD,CD/DVD ROM, with one 1.1 USB port. Till now things work fine: But I cannot figure out how to access an external USB peripheral like an External CD RW, or a FLASH/THUMB drive. For the latter I got a link http://mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtop...hl=thumb+drives but this will work for the thumb drive not for the cd rw - so whats the way out. Also I am using the Community Edition, whatever that means _ I just hope it does not mean a lock in regards bamboo
  11. Thanks, will mke do with this I guess, am trying out mandrake first time and will not buy any linux as yet tillam sure this is the right one regards bamboo
  12. Hi I have been searching for an installation Manual, FAQ for mandrake 10.1 community edition, the closest I got was: http://www.mandrake.tips.4.free.fr/review101.html#index which seems to have a lot but not a step wise account of what to do and MORE IMPORTANT what to expect can any one point me in the right direction. regards bamboo spider Linux Since June2004 FC1, FC2, FC3 (Current) Have tried: Suse 9.1 pro, Ubuntu Warty Warthog
