yup tried that Mhn also tried rebooting.. Still the same issue i just turn off 3d desktop until there a patch or a work around, I was hoping someone would know how to fix it though.

question did you do a full install? it looks like you trying to log on in failsafe (safe mode) .... More info would help.

try this log on the type startx let us know what happens.

Here my problem i just install 2007 powerpack so far everthing went fine.. the big problem is if i have XGL running (3d desktop) no other users can log on. it will go to the KDM or GDM (both do the same thing) i get a busy cursor, and then bam KDM/GDM will restart,,, but i can log on as the user that started XGL... Any idea's why that is? or how i can fix it?

i kinda had the same problem with Mandriva One 2007 RC2 the problem stem with the resolution, you have to choose Failsafe and go into Xfdrake and play around with your nvidia settings / driver choice in the end i ended up using generic driver over my nvidia 6800GT... best of luck.

Just wondering what kind of motherboard do you have? the reason is a couple of years ago i had the same problems it turn out to be the Bios Chip was going defective and on occasion like hot or humid days it would start behaving wierd

the pointer arrow (mouse) would move randomly on it's own... Anyway it turn out to be the Bios Chip so you might want to get it check out...

I would say that you have it working correctly. I have an ATI card that gets about 1200fps when enabled with opengl and direct rendering. So it's working.

 

glxgears isn't a great test, you're better playing games and see how you get on. Then tweaking settings to increase performance - if possible.

 

My Intel in my laptop gets no more than about 600 or so, and thats an Intel 82852/82855 chipset.

I have mess around with Nightchaser Laptop and it has no 3d, GlxGears works but at way low frame rates. Even Screen savers like 3dfirework don't work. It being a laptop i have no clue on how to get it to work correctly..

I think it's a problem with Google Earth for Linux, Because i have the exact same problem.. And like Tyme said it is a beta :( but still some what usable :)

OK is here my problem,

I have an Dimension 9100 it's only 4 months old and it's a Great PC but lately when my kids or myself play Enemy Territory the pc will just reboot.. At first i though maybe it was a kernel/mandriva 2006 problem because i was update using cooker all the time. So i decided i was going to do a fresh install on a clean Hd.. Now i'm not so sure it was the OS it could be a hardware problem, like Power Supply? The thing that baffles me is that it will only reboot while playing 3D intense games like Doom3 or ET and even then it's not everytime it might work today with no problems. Come the Next Day and Bam she'll reboot.

so my question is, does anybody have any idea's why this is happening?

I think the emulator his talking about is wine.. If it is wine you have to go to the directory where the program you want to run is. for example notepad

in my case it's cd /mnt/windows/program_files when your there using either Konsole you would type this without the quotes " wine notepad.exe" and it will run.

also a quick tip!

add the PLF and Main and Contrib repostories this will give you access to a crap load of files... you can do this by using Easy-Urpmi "at the very top of this page!!!" (next to Wiki and Help)

I Think the Gowator should write the next article concerning linux email clients and groupware. It's obvious that he has a deeper knowledge of understanding on Linux versus Exchange (or whatever) than the shmuck who wrote the zdnet article!

thanks for the info. I have K9copy and it's alright but the winblows version of dvdshrink is far better, i just would like to use it in linux. i just can't get it to work. :( . dvdshrink (rpm) is Cli which is not a problem but i'm more partial to a GUI and dvdshrink(rpm) give errors mostly with pal but also with some ntsc. go figure.

I have been cracking my head over this for a least a week. I installed dvdshrink on my box using wine, it installed fine but it won't open a movie to shrink it.. It says no drives found,I googled for a way to fix it but witn no luck. i went into winecfg to make sure that cdrom(dvdrom) is read as a cdrom but it keeps seeing it as a harddrive. does anybody have any suggestions?

Ok here is goes, Avidemux is encoding my movie to pal when it should be doing it to ntsc.. So when i burn it to dvd it won't play because of 'regional limitations" does anybody have a clue on how to make it burn to a ntsc format? I've tried but with little or no results.

I agree with ianw1974 the best bet is to get the iso and burn it to a disk, after that you should be all set, though need to download video drivers you will not have 3d accel without but the drivers are out there and easy to install..

Well i happy to say it work prefect! I installed Avidemux from PLF and then installed QDVDauthor a frontend for DVDauthor and it worked like a charm. Thank you all so much for your help, My Linux is now officially complete.

Ok i'm looking for a program that will convert avi's divx xvid to a DvD so i can burn with Kb3. But so far i'm having no luck finding one you maybe someone here know where i can find one?
