  1. I'm having the same problem in the topic's title. When I play a dvd (first time I try) with mplayer I see the movie picture corrupted in many small squares and the audio playing stepwise. After about 10 sec the following error appears: "demux: File doesn't contain the selected audio or video stream" Tried to change the codecs and demuxer setting in the config panel without result. At least I didn't try all the possible codec families (dont know which is the DVD one). Totem doesn't work as well. It suggest someting like css coding (evidently non included in totem). ML 9.2
  2. Even worse I cannot modify the application associated to the file type. After a preliminary investigation it seems that GNOME update the .mime file in the local hidden directory /home/user/.gnome, while the system, and Nautilus, work on the files in /usr/share/mime (if I remember well). Both the files are created by an utility named vfs-...
  3. I'm trying for instance to add a proper icon to a XLS file (excel). In fact in my system this kind of file is without the icon (the foot of the standard gnome application). Well, trying to set the icon with the file type menu I discover that none of the applications have a icon associated in that menu. In addition when I force the icon, this time the menu acknowledge the icon associate to excel speadsheet, but no effect on the icons displaied in Nautilus. Basically the visible icons, shown in Nautilus, are not in agreement to those shown in the file type association menu (wich have almost all empty icons). Hope to be clear, but ask if not. I'm wondering there has been some misalignment in the file that manage this function in Gnome.
  4. I recently substituted (not updated) ML9.1 Power Pack with 9.2 Download ed. I found that the File association configuration tool in GNOME is not aligned with the actual situation, e.g. the icon is empty while it is visible in Nautilus. In addition if I make some changes in the File association configuration window it is not applied to the desktop environment. Any suggestion?
  5. I use LM9.0 with GNOME 2.0 and cannot use MIDI as well. Before, LM 8.2 with KDE and OSS, everything was working. I want to use alsa also to use external MIDI module with serial line. With LM9.0 I also cannot see now my sb16 among the system hardware components list of Mandrake Control Center. But it work for audio (MP3, Ogg, ..).
  6. In the end I succeded to install the printer. I just downloaded the current foomatic from www.linuxprinting.org. In order to install it I installed libxml2-devel also and had to modify the default directory to /usr in the configure file (not to install in /usr/local). In fact the suggested parameter --prefix=/usr didn't work for me. After that printerdrake visualize the HP deskjet 3420.
  7. Hi all, Santa Claus decided to send me a new HP deskjet 3420 after he saw that all my attempts to use my Philips XION printer/fax (not so widely known) with Linux has been failed. He cheked that a diriver for linux was existing and found it at http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net and the printer appears to be known in the supported hardware web page of Mandrake. Well, but it doesn't work (it works and align the pens in Windows). What I did is to try with ML 9.0 Mandrake Control Center (printerdrake) first, and the printer name is recognized by the USB connection but the printer model is not existing in the configuration list. Then I downloaded and installed the HPIJS 1.3 driver (which include also my printer model) from the abovementioned site (Ghostscript seems to consider IJS and do not need to be updated). Since the printer is not listed in printerdrake I tried with other HP printer with IJS driver but without success. Apparently what I need is to produce a PPD file to configure the printer with CUPS. I found one in www.linuxprinting.org and substituted in the directory /etc/cups/ppd but, again, without success (probably because it works with foomatic). Also no PPD file found in the printer CD-ROM and not for my printer in the Adobe site (HP .exe file). What do I have to do to print with my new deskjet 3420?
