  1. OK, I tried K9copy again and the problem I have is when I do "make" I get an error of: /usr/local/include/dvdread/ifo_types.h:32:2: #error Must include <inttypes.h> or <stdint.h> before any libdvdread header . What?? I have libdvdread-0.9.5 installed, so I don't have any idea what I am being asked to do. Pepse.
  2. I get the impression that K3B is not the way to go? That's OK, I'm just trying to find something that I can get to work. But, the 2 rippers listed are the 2 I am having alot of grief trying to get to work. But I will try again to get at least one of them to work. I will post problems when possible. Maybe yet tonight. Later. Pepse.
  3. What it is is that I have been trying to find a working DVD ripper for Linux and after a few different types I think I would be better off with K3B. The problem is the version of transcode I have is 0.1.12 and when trying to rip a DVD in K3B I get and error of " K3B does not support ripping Video DVD's with Transcode >=0.1.12 yet ". So, my dilema is, do I upgrade my K3B to 0.12.11, and hope it will work with the newer Transcode, or download Transcode 0.6.0pre5 and hope that K3B finds it and uses it. The older version of Transcode is what K3B lists in its "dependencies for rippin". I really don't want to dump the newer Transcode because I am trying to get one of the other Rippers to work, and I am thinking/hoping that by also having the older Transcode, K3B would find it and use it. K3B's web doesn't have much for help. And for those of you that wonder what other ripppers I have; Acidrip (POS), DVDRip (almost works), DVDshrink(no good), MPlayer/Mencoder (commandline ripper that has caused me a LOT of grief and of course still doesn't work), and K9 (haven't gone too far with it as it seems I need more dependencies than I already have). And believe me there is an armful of dependencies that I have downloaded from the net and installed from my PowerPack DVD. DVDRip has the better manual but it seems to stop where I need the most help. So, I figure if I can get K3B to work then I'll deal with the rest later. I have Mandriva 2005LE PowerPack DVD. Pepse.
  4. I will post any info I can find from sourceforge-acidrip-HELP. Yes I have PERL, but that is a generic term. I went to MCC and looked at installable software and there are a lot of PERL related things I can install. Also, I looked at software that is installed and there is a lot of PERL related software already in my system. Should I also install everything that has PERL in it or look for something specific? Pepse.
  5. . OK, I untarred Acidrip and that is all I can do with it. I did the usual " tar -xzvf acidrip-0.14.tar.gz " and it untarred and then I typed " ./configure " and the reply is: bash ./configure No such file or directory . So, here is a list of what is in the folder I untarred: acidrip-0.14/ acidrip-0.14/META.yml acidrip-0.14/test.pl acidrip-0.14/COPYING acidrip-0.14/acidrip.spec acidrip-0.14/acidrip acidrip-0.14/AcidRip/ acidrip-0.14/AcidRip/signals.pm acidrip-0.14/AcidRip/logo.png acidrip-0.14/AcidRip/interface.pm acidrip-0.14/AcidRip/messages.pm acidrip-0.14/AcidRip/acidrip.pm acidrip-0.14/CHANGELOG acidrip-0.14/MANIFEST acidrip-0.14/lsdvd-0.10.tar.gz acidrip-0.14/TODO acidrip-0.14/Makefile.pl So what didn't I do? I did this in the folder I created to untar it and run from. Later. Pepse.
  6. OK, I did open up my RPM's and I am able to watch DVD's again; my RPM's were " libdvdcss2-x.x.x and libdvdcss-2devel.x.x.x ". Now as for the tarred files they are needed for ripping DVD's. The reason I downloaded Acidrip is because I did some searching before I downloaded and then posted here and the consensus seems to be that Acidrip is the way to go for Linux based ripping. But I was on K3B's web and they mention the need for the files I downloaded especially " transcode "; if I want to do ripping in K3B. Now I would imagine that if I want to rip DVD's in K3B I'll have to untar the files in K3B. But I would like to try Acidrip, also. So, what I need to do is figure out how to untar these files in Acidrip and K3B. If this still looks like a mess as for what I am saying I'm sorry. My brain is getting a little better. I definately need to download tar.gz files more often to keep my brain straight. With the ease of RPM's my brains getting soft  . I'm an older person and one big reason I switched to Linux is because you gotta think. And we all know that brains are not required for windoze . Later. Pepse.
  7. My mind is still froze . OK, I do unnerstand that opening the RPM's will be OK. Definately forgot that simple item. OK now just to say the tar.gz files are: acidrip , libdvdnav , libdvdread , lsdvd , regionset , transcode , and xvidcore . If I understand you I have to untar those somewhere other than the folder I downloaded them to?? For what it's worth I have a Lite-On DVD burner. Also, I am running Mandriva 2005 LE PowerPack. Later. Pepse.
  8. I have downloaded some software pertaining to ripping, as well as watching DVD's. I put all files in the same folder. Two RPM's and four tar.gz's. Now when I open up all of this software does it get used by the appropiate device; i.e. Mplayer and K3B? It's been awhile since I downloaded and opened any software and I just can't remember if it is OK where it's at or do I gotta move some to a different place. Sorry for the dumb questions but my brain is on vacation . Pepse.
  9. Scoopy, I have 10.0 and 10.1 PowerPacks and they are both buggier than '05 LE. Maybe it's because they're on DVD? Pepse.
  10. Okay. ianw1974, I might look into Beep. Where do I find it?? Who puts it out? As for Amorak, I really don't care for it. I use it because XMMS doesn't work. And KSCD and Kaffiene are good for playing CD's. Anything on the Mozilla vs.Adobe? Does Adobe work in Mozilla? Personally I like Konqueror but there is no built-in mail program, and IIRC JAVA and or Flash aren't in Konq either. Or are things improved enough in Konq to use it as my default browser? A couple people mention no probs with 2006 Free. Is that to say that If I get 2006 Free and download whatever else I might need I probably won't have as many bugs as 2006 PowerPack?? I also, always start with a clean hard drive when upgrading because I had alot of probs when upgrading from 8.1 to 9.0 without a clean drive. I also, update my system as much as I can but that usually ends up with a problem somewhere else. Since my last update 4 weeks ago I had to quit using the default camera wizard (Konqueror). Which is fine because I discovered FLPHOTO and like it better. In fact with FLPhoto I can edit pix easier than I could in the GIMP. So, sometimes what used to work for me in a previous version and doesn't wotk in the latest version has caused me to look around for something similar and most of the time it is for the better. Although I still like X-CD-Roast better that K3B. So, I will await a few more answers and then decide whether to upgrade to '06 or keep updating '05 and deal with what I got. Later. Pepse.
  11. Seriously. I have the Mandriva LE 2005 PowerPack DVD and it has so many problems that I wonder if 2006 is as bad. Do XMMS and XINE work in KDE yet?? Did they cure the Mozilla lock up when trying to use Adobe Acrobat? Seriously I want to upgrade but I wonder if I should wait a couple, three months or get the 2006 PowerPack and go for it? I did a search first but being 4 pages I decided to post a general question here. Later. Pepse. [moved from Software by spinynorman]

    DVD burner

Could it be a problem with it being a Pioneer?? I just bought a LiteOn DVD burner Sunday and K3B recognized when I put a DVD-R in it. Only problem I had was that, just for pratice, I tried to copy my Mandiva LE 2005 PowerPack DVD and it wouldn't copy because I was out of room on the DVD. But I installed all the DVD software in windows 98 and I copied that same DVD with no problems. Later. Pepse.
  13. falo laf, I will look in to the latest driver you have and see if it like me. Of course being that I am using a different mobo it might be OK. I mainlly used Tyan mobo's but I now have a Gigabyte so who knows. Some friends in the area always figured alot my problems were because of the Tyan boards; even when I ran windoes. Later. Pepse.
  14. Well, I decided to gamble and see what happens when going back to 800X600 screensize. Nothing unusual. I got a query stating that I had so many seconds to decide on keeping the screensize I selected or ignore it and it would remain the same. So, I changed it and rearreanged my icons and I'm OK. I got a feeling that if I go and change it again to 1024X768 nothing weird will happen because now that size is in the applet in the system tray. Before I forget, does anybody here have any idea which of the newer nVidia drivers is stable?? I haven't been there in awhile because I have so many problems with their drivers. Of course that was with Kernel 2.4.x.xx . I would hope the compatibility factor is better with 2.6.x.xx . Later. Pepse.
  15. Well, being that I ain't having any problems right now I was able to get into XFdrake --expert. But no doubt when I try to do screenresize and get tossed back to a console I will probably NOT be able to do anything. If it happens this time I'll right down what errors transpire. I didn't before because I figured XFdrake wasn't apart of kernel 10.x.xx. Later. Pepse.
  16. Falo laf, I will answer that the next time I go to re-size the screen, which I would like to do soon, but I don't have a command to get me through when it screws up. Like, with the older vers. of MDK when I had video problems and it would put me in a console I could type " XFdrake --expert " and it would get me through with some toggling here and there. But, I see that XFdrake don't work. So what command with Xorg is similar to XFdrake --expert? Once I have an answer there I will try to resize the screen, so then when I get put in a console I can hopefully get out without having to re-install the software again. Later. Pepse.
  17. I usually don't change my screensize either but in order to be able to get the toggles at the bottom of GIMP's page that allows me to print I had to go to the 1024X768 screensize. Devries, I went to a konsole and typed "krandrtray" and it gave me alot of "warnings" and an "Invalid entry", but other than that I guess I won't be able to make any changes in konsole. But, then again, because of all these warnings maybe I ain't getting the screen I'm suppose to get. Later. Pepse.
  18. Well for starters I go to MCC then to Hardware then to "change the screen resolution". I go that way because the aplet at the bottom right (screen resize and rotate) only goes as high as the resolution I currently run. Such as now that I have the resolution set at 1024 X 768 I can downsize the screen but can't go above 1024 X 768. Also, when I had it set at 800 X 600 I could not go higher than that. So, when I change it through MCC it mentions to reboot the computer to make the changes work. Okay here is the answer to the command yves asked me to run: 9:# Default runlevel. The runlevels used by Mandrakelinux are: 10:# 0 - halt (Do not set initdefault to this) 16:# 6 - reboot (Do not set initdefault to this) 18:id:5:intdefault: If that says anything let me know. As for 3D acceleration I checked GLXGEARS and it works, but I am thinking that 1088.600fps might be a bit slow, but I am not sure what I should be running. Later. Pepse.
  19. To start I have MD LE 2005 and it has been pretty good except for this problem of changing screensize, going from 800X600 to 1024X768. When doing so I naturally have to re-boot for it to take effect. When it re-boots it takes me to the console whereas I have to login. So I did that but I have no clue what to do there because I tried to goto "XFdrake --expert" and there ain't no such place anymore; I know now that it is Xorg or something like that now. So, I eneded up re-installing Mandriva 10.2 just to get back to a GUI. I had to do this one other time when I first started using Mandiva. And the only reason I have to change screesize is to use GIMP. And no I don't have the latest (probably buggy) nVidia driver installed. Just what comes with Mandriva. I have a Interage 128 meg nVidia chipped video card. A Gigabyte 7VM400M-RZ mobo. 512 megs of ram. And a AMD Athlon 1.33 CPU. I feel I shouldn't have to re-install the software just to change screensize. I am using a refresh rate of 87 Mhz which is recommended by IBM for my IBM E74 monitor. When this problem happened the first time I had a Mitsibishi Diamond PRO 17 inch monitor. Is there a work-around for this bug?? Later. Pepse. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  20. Just to clarify what I did...........I burned most of my files that are on my old 30 Gig hard drive onto CD then just transferred them off the CD's onto this 120 Gig hard drive. My old hard drive is not connected to this computer. That is the data files. The music CD's I just started burning them in to the hdd like before. Later. Pepse.
  21. First I checked "show hidden files"; nope, nothing unusual there. Then I went to a Konsole and tried to find any folders, music and others and it kept giving me the same old "no such file or diectory. It's like I lost all linkage between hda and hdc; because as I said when I go to KDiskFree it shows that I have used about 9.x Gigs of hard drive in /home/jim. Then, too, if I go to games or whatever else I had on my desktop before all this happened and create a link-to, and like I said the games are where I left off before all this happened. It is strange. Pepse.
  22. It seems like I can't win when upgrading my Linux box. I have Mandriva LE 2K5. Everything was going real good. I was very happy with Mandriva vs 10.1 PowerPack. I have a 120 Gig hard drive and I put Mandriva on it as a clean install. I put a lot of folders of info from my old 30 Gig hard drive onto the new one. And slowly over the last few days I was putting the majority of my music CD's into the "/home/jim" partition. I was using XCDROAST to do this (I am more comfortable with 'Roast than any others), and also using CDDB for the title and track info. To this point I have only used 9.6 Gigs of /home/jim for evrything I have done. I was putting a Robert Plant CD into its own folder from the "music" folder that XCDROAST uses. To transfer I first do a split window then I open the empty folder on the right and then go to the "music" folder and do "Ctrl+A" to "select all" the do F8 to transfer. Well after hitting F8 the screen acted kinda strange and after it was done I clicked out of /home/jim and there were no Icons on the desktop, and the system tray at the bottom had an extra KDiskFree icon. So I rebooted and when it loaded up the only icons were Home, Welcome, Kooka (for my scanner), and Trash. I looked at KDiskFree and it shows that I still have 96.2 Gigs free on my /home/jim. So, I checked Gnome to see if it was different; no, no difference. I discovered that when I went /home/jim the only things there are Desktop, Robert Plant, and tmp. I discovered that I can go to Menu and re-create the links I HAD on my desktop and everything is OK. The KPPP works, nothing is messed up with Mozilla and re-creating the Game links results in the game being where I left off before all this happened. So, although I can get back the regular Linux based link-to icons how in the hell do I get all the music folders and other folders back? Pepse. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  23. Yep, I installed all the updates about a week ago and then again after I read your reply on Friday. Same ol' same ol'. I've been thinking of reformatting hda1 and installing 10.0 PowerPack. I might have the "bad signatures" issues like 10.1, but at least it might be more stable. I didn't really work with my 10.0PP much, but I decided that (at that time) I might as well get 10.1 and hopefully the "bad signature" issues were taken care of; obviously not. Just from what little cage47 says I get the feeling I never should have spent the money on 10.1PP Later. Pepse.
  24. Well, it didn't do much good to "kill" kded. I can still go to /home after attempting to use the camera but the camera still doesn't create an icon. So, I created an icon again and plugged in the camera and I got an error of: Could not mount device. The reported error was: mount: /dev/sdb1 is already mounted or /mnt/camera is busy mount: according to mtab /dev/sdb1 is already mounted on /mnt/camera . Pepse.
  25. That helps, as far as having a command to use to "kill" that task. As far as "did it work?", I'll wait until I can connect this box to a high speed connection before I try it again. I warned one of the kids that I might have to stop over soon and use her cable modem line to download some stuff. Unless I can get the checkbook from the wife on Monday or Tuesday to get DSL hooked up here . Later. Pepse.
