  1. You XF86Config file should like similar to this:

Notice in the modules section, there's:

    Load "glx" # 3D layer

If you are missng that entry, you need it there.

  2. fluxbox-0.9.9-4mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3.4))

You'll need GLIBC_2.3.4 which provides libc.so.6, but the easiest way would be urpmi.

    urpmi fluxbox

    urpmi database locked

This means you tried opening a 2nd occurence of urpmi. It maybe you had your software manager running plus typing urpmi in a console. You can only have 1 occurence running. Don't open software manager at all. Open a console and as root do the urpmi fluxbox again and it should find it in your source tree and install it. That's the first thing I would try. If that fails, then add cooker and plf which will have Flux and repeat the urpmi command. If you still get the error regarding libc.so.6, then you'll have to get GLIBC_2.3.4 which I believe is already in your source tree so it should be installed automatically.

  3. If xfce is not in your software manager or urpmi, then you did not install the sources using easy urpmi as suggested in previous posts. I'd suggest you read the faq's regarding urpmi. This will greatly help you in getting xfce installed. Also if you have any other problems, we need specifics if you want our help, i.e. error messeges. Procedures and commands you've performed, etc. We can't help you if we don't know what's going on.

  4. In kde control panel, go to sesion manager and chose confirm log out or shut down. I'm not at my pc now so I can't tell you any more specifics. As for firefox, when you installed it, it would hae asked you where you want to install it. Go to that directory you chose to install it to and run the executable.

  5. OK. Easiest way would be to add some ftp sources as described. That message means that it requires another piece of software (dependencies) in order to work. Once you have sources added, type as root from a console:

    urpmi fluxbox

This command will download and install fluxbox with dependencies. Or, if you already downloaded the Flux rpm to a directory, then you can also cd over to the directory from a console and type the above command as root. I will add cooker as well as plf. This is exlpained in the faq's in great detail. It should work.

If the above fails, then google for libstdc++.so.6 and install that rpm first, then Flux.

  6. I don't think the Nvidia drivers are installed either or else you'll be getting the splash screen. Install the drivers, then do startx. Once in a gui, open a console and as root type:

    init 5

This will put you back into init 5. As for konqueror crashing, I believe this is a known issue which is corrected by getting the maintanance release of kde which is v 3.2.3.

  7. As root type:

    XFdrake

This will bring up your video card config. In here, you can choose the appropriate driver that corresponds with your video card, then you would choose your monitor. If it's not listed, chose a generic one that corresponds to the one you have. I'm not sure which driver you are meant to choose for your card. Maybe a standard vga driver or vesa.

  8. Did you add cooker?

If so, do you already have version .30?

If not sure type from a console:

    gdesklets -v

This will tell you the version.

If you didn't add cooker, then follow the faq's regarding urpmi. I'm pretty sure the latest version is available from cooker or plf which is another ftp source. If not, google gdesklets, go to the site and install from there.

  9. I am using it now and have been using it full time for a month now. I was previously using Flux and it's a very good DE/WM. Looks awsome with gdesklets running. As for the icons, I have mine on the gdesklets startup bar. No need for all those messy icons on the desktop. It's also highly configurable. It supports Gnome panel even.

    Xfce

  10. Have you tried using another player such as xmms? I don't use KsCD, but maybe the problem is only specific to that player.

Also what dvd player are you using? There are some things you may have to get in order to view dvd's.
