  3. I have tried all above but still no luck, still won't see the card during boot up or load my mixer settings. Still mute on restart. :wall:

Although I'm not sure if I did the /proc/asound thing correctly. I went:

    alsactl store Live

ANy more help would be appreciated. :help:

    Thanks

  4. Once again, Hello all.

Does anyone know of any reasons that when booting Mandrake it takes a good 40-50 seconds on the "Searching for new Hardware" part? When on a mates PC its about 5-10 seconds?

Is there anyway I can get a log of just the last boot and shutdown? As in what I see when I hit Esc to see the verbose mode?

    Thanks

  5. Hi again.

I found this fault among a log.

localhost sound: Loading sound module (snd-emu10k1) succeeded

    localhost alsactl: /usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1139:

    localhost alsactl: No soundcards found...

localhost sound: Loading mixer settings failed

    Any ideas?

  6. Hello all. I have Mandrake 10.1 and every time I boot it resets my Sound mixer settings so basically every restart I have to unmute, change the bass and treble etc etc. :wall:

Does anyone know whay this would be happening?

My sound card is a Sound Blaster Live!

    Cheers

  7. Hello Helmut.

I have just got an email from Canon who say that the linux drivers for the s300 should work and if it don't then the linux drivers from the i250 will work.

The link to the linux drivers for the i250 are here.

    http://www.canon.co.nz/products/printers/c...50_drivers.html

If you have any luck let me know cause I have no idea how to install drivers. Still too used to windows :)

I have no idea what to do as there are heaps of linux files for this printer. So any instructions would be wicked.

Hope this helps you (& me)

    Cya

  8. Hello again.

  9. Hello all.

I was wondering if anyone knows how to see what ports Mandrake is using for TCP and UDP.

Or if thats not possible how do I change them to what I want.

I don't have a firewall/router, only what ever Mandrake has built in.

I only have a dial up connection to the net at this stage and I need this info so I can make Valknut go active as its requesting the port numbers for UDP and TCP.

    Thanks heaps

  10. Evening all.

I was wondering if there are any Valknut users out there that know how to get Active Mode to work on a dial up connection.

The IP gets automatically filled in but I think the port numbers are where I'm going wrong as with Phantom DC(Windows) they are blank and Active works fine, This the last step to getting me totally away from Windows. :help:

    ANy help would be wicked.

    Thanks

  11. Hello all.

I'm just curious to see if any one knows to how sort this problem.

I have an external modem which Mandrake 10.1 detects fine.

Every time i restart my PC i have to reconfigure my dial up internet connection.

If i don't reconfigure it I get an error saying that /dev/modem is not ready. Once configured its fine untill the next restart.

Is there anyway I can have it keep the configuration or make its self ready at boot up?

    Thanks

  12. I got this problem sorted. I found the solution in an earlier topic.

You can change the permissions so that you have full read/write access to all the files in your home directory. If I was called joe and my home directory was /home/joe I would open a terminal, change to the root account and type:

    chown joe -R /home/joe

    chmod -R u+rwx /home/joe

    chgrp -R joe /home/joe

This worked a treat for me and I have no problems starting either Thunderbird or Firefox now.

  13. Hello all. I also have a question redarding Firefox. I'm very new to linux, a fresh convert.

I downloaded Firefox and Thunderbird in RPM file format and installed them both.

When trying to start firefox it won't from either the terminal or icon and with Thunderbird it starts but won't let me create a profile, something about can't write to drive. :wall:

But.... if I open up the terminal and login in as "SU" they both start fine via the terminal, no issues at all.

Would this be a permission issue? Any ideas??

  14. Hello,

Just out of interest.... Does anyone know what causes this application to max out my CPU & slow my system down to a halt when ever I insert a CD. After 10mins it hasn't even ripped 1%. As soon as i remove the CD every thing returns to it normal healthy state.

    Thanks
