  1. Hello all.

I have got Mandrake 10.1 oe.

I have been using this no problems for a few months now.

Today I was using mandrake fine, I shut down, went out for the afternoon and when I came home I started her up.

Well it started hanging on the Detecting New Hardware part.

I turned that off and now it hangs on the Alsactl restore part. :wall:

If I hit CTRL ALT DEL it comes up with stopping ALSA and don't go anywhere.

I can't figure out how to do teh interactive boot as to not run ALSA. :evilmod:

So at the moment I have a unusable Linux box. Please help me.

    UPDATE:

I have now figured the Interactive boot.

I can boot it up by telling it not to boot ALSA.

Now Mandrake Control Center won't work. Whats up with that.

What the frik has gone wrong here. I thought Linux was supposed to be stable. :wall:

I typed in the terminal - service alsa stop - This stopped alsa ok but MCC & harddrake won't start up also my USB flash drive won't work now. Is it time for a windows style reinstall?

  2. Upstairs for thinking aye?

I have plugged in the PS/2 options and it seems to be working ok with out stopping. Well it has on this boot anyway, I'll keep this updated.

Any ideas as to why the USB stops working at random times?

I'll not use the USB mouse/keyboard anymore but I'd still like to know what the problem is.

  3. How do I chek the IRQ status?

Also I have found that the scroll wheel has stopped working.

I have also told Mandrake that its a USB mouse and it has not happened since.

But not matter what I chamge the type of mouse too it won't give my my wheel back :wall:

  4. Well as to date none of the above have worked, although I'm stoked I got rid of that Nvidia splash screen on start up.

Also when they start not responding unplugging the replugging the USB cable does noting.

I have plugged in the PS2 connection for my mouse as I have a choice and will see if just the keyboard which is still USB stops on its own.

Does anyone havea ny other ideas? :help:

Now for some reason the problem only happens some times.

    Its all very strange.

  6. Hi All.

I have a problem thats started in the last week. After about 15 minutes of Mandrake 10.1 OE running the Mouse and Keyboard stop working. Linux is running fine in the background but I can't do any thing. After a bit longer the screen saver comes on and then I have to reboot.

The only thing I have changed in the last week is I installed the latest Nvidia drivers.

The mouse thing started happenng a few days after the graphics driver install tho.

    Any help would be wicked.

    Thanks heaps

  7. Ok, I have tried to connect to 3 different networks. :wall: \

I am plugging my network card directly into a hub that has the internet.

I have mate on the same network that connects fine.

I have tried to do every thing exactly the same as him but still no internet.

It comes up on boot about not being able to configure an IP.

Also my network status weither disconnected or connected has disappeared out of my task bar. Does anyone know how to get it back there?

Whats the commands I type to display onformation that will help people help me?

    THanks

  8. Hello, I'm using Mandrake 10.1ce and am trying to connect to the Net via a network.

I have gone to configure network and selected "Lan" connection etc. It comes up saying my LAN and internet is configured. Only problem is that its not connecting to the Internet.

My network card is plugged into a router. Another PC (Windows) is also plugged into this router and is getting the net fine.

If i go to monitor connections and then click on "Connect Lan" it says that I can't connect to the net and I have to check my configuration. :evilmod:

I have tried for flippin hours now and am getting ready to throw my PC through the nearest window. :wall:

My network card is a NForce2 onboard one thats been detected fine.

  9. Hello all.

For some reason Thunderbird would not start yesterday and came up with an error about my default profile being busy.

Me being dumb started to create a new profile then decided agasint it.

Now I can't figure out how to bring up the profile manager to delete the half done new profile. :wall:

My old one is there but its starting up the new one.

I can't figure out from which directory you use the thunderbird -p switch to start it. :help:

    Anyone know?

    Thanks

  10. That has done the trick thanks Adamw. :thanks:

Next question. It also takes a while booting up at the "Loading USB Printer" part.

Now my printer is not supported at all (Canon i320) so is there any way I can turn that part off? I have looked about but can't find any way :)

Thanks again for the Hardware detection thing. :thanks:

  11. I might jump in here aswell.

I have a soundblaster Live and 8 times out of 10 the sound is set to mute when booted?

It also says it can't find a sound card on boot but once KDE is up and running it correctly says I have a sound blaster.

    Any ideas?
