  1. Nice one glad you got it sorted, nice and easy :P

    Thanks for the advice - much appreciated. :)

    One thing though - I had to enable the port in Guarddog in the Internet zone (as well as Local zone), to get the server to print?! I hope I'm not opening to the world.... :unsure:

    WDYT?

  2. Do as Ian said - configure the printe as follows: select connection type "Printer connected to remote LPD server", enter netgear's IP address in the remote host name box, and specify "lp" as remote printer name.

    I tried this but no test page. :unsure: I selected Add New Printer via Hardware in MCC, printer setup wizard, selected remote lpd server, put in the printer LAN IP address, printer drivers installed but nothing is coming out.

    The print server is accessible via a browser and works with this printer in XP, so there isn't any issues with the hardware...........

    Could this have anything to do with Guarddog firewall?

    Any help appreciated.

  3. Hi

    I'm running a 2006 Powerpack system on the 2.6.12-12mdksmp kernel. I would like to get rid of the basic nvidia drivers and install the latest from nvidia, but the installed kernel source is kernel-source-2.6-2.6.12-14mdk, with no rpm available showing the correct 2.6.12-12.

    What I cant understand is that my system doesn't appear to have any problems. Would I cause myself grief if I uninstalled the 2.6.12-14 kernel source and install a downloaded 2.6.12-12 kernel source? :unsure:

  4. Hope you can help. I've got an NVidia Geforce 5200 graphics card with D-sub and DVI outputs on Mandriva 2006 and prior to getting my second screen I used the D-sub connector to the first (both screens are LCD).

    On reading through various posts and HOWTO's I changed my xorg.conf to get dual monitor display, as follows: -

    There's probably something simple that I'm doing wrong, but any thoughts would be appreciated............ :thanks:

  5. Hi

    I've got Kaffeine running as root so that my Skystar2 card is recognised - it wont see it as a user.

    When I scan for channels (ie Astra sat) I get lock and 70%+ in SNR signal etc, but no channels get found. :help:

    Any ideas would be appreciated. :thanks:

  6. By installing a dvbapps rpm and using that to scan for channels (rather than the download tar file)I've now been able to scan two satellites and created a channels.conf file.

    My problem now is that xine cannot find a dvb plugin to handle any channel, even though the latest libxine is installed.

    I then tried installing vdr but got this: -

    [root@localhost vdr-1.2.6]# make

    g++ -g -O2 -Wall -Woverloaded-virtual -c -DREMOTE_KBD -DREMOTE_ -D_GNU_SOURCE -DVIDEODIR=\"/video\" -DPLUGINDIR=\"./PLUGINS/lib\" -I../DVB/include channels.c

    In file included from channels.h:13,

    from channels.c:10:

    config.h: In member function `bool cConfig<T>::Save()':

    config.h:140: error: there are no arguments to `First' that depend on a template parameter, so a declaration of `First'must be available

    config.h:140: error: (if you use `-fpermissive', G++ will accept your code, but allowing the use of an undeclared name is deprecated)

    make: *** [channels.o] Error 1

    1 step forward - two back!

    Any help appreciated! :thanks:

  7. Hi

    Could anyone point me in the right direction as I seem to have hit a brick wall with trying to scan for channels.

    I've got a Skystar2 PCI card on a Mandriva 2005LE box. The modules are loaded and Linuxtv is installed. An 'szap' command gives the FE_HAS_LOCK message, so it seems the driver is OK.

    The problem is when I scan giving the below command

    ./scan dvb-s/ Astra-19.2E>channels.conf

    ...all I get is this

    [root@localhost scan]# ./scan dvb-s/ Astra-19.2E>channels.conf

    scanning dvb-s/

    using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'

    ERROR: initial tuning failed

    dumping lists (0 services)

    Done.

    The details for Astra are as supplied in the original Linuxtv tar file -

    # Astra 19.2E SDT info service transponder

    # freq pol sr fec

    S 12551500 V 22000000 5/6

    (BTW its a direct connection to the card - no diseqc.)

    Any help would be appreciated. :thanks:

  8. Many thanks for your advice.

    I did look at Smoothwall (I've got an oldish spare box) but TBH I haven't got the time to have a good run at it - even though I'd enjoy it! :headbang: Ah, the joys of work and kids!

    Netgear was looking favourite but like Gowator, I tend to vote with my wallet and buy hardware from pro-Linux companies. It also looks like Linksys fell foul of the FSF too. I guess I'm stuffed and will have to buy a cheapo and hope for the best :juggle:

    Thanks again....I'll be back asking more stupid questions!

    :thanks:

  9. Hi folks

    My kids are now expected to go on the Net for schoolwork so I need to find a decent wired ADSL router. Could you recommend one that's OK with Linux - I'd rather spend money on a recommendation :thumbs:

    Also is it best to use one that has a built in modem or should I just use my current speedtouch...?

    Any pointers gratefully received! :thanks:

  10. If you've configured the connection via MCC, don't you have the network icon in your systray? Normally it's installed automatically and starts/stops the connection just by right clicking and entering the root password.......
