  1. ok i've done all that now, its still trying to use the Python 2.4 and the newest one I downloaded right now is 2.5, how do i make it look into the 2.5 and not 2.4
  2. its disgusting the amount of time it can take to install one simple thing, every rpm that i download, it fails because it needs another one, no wonder people are scared sh*tless of leaving their windows boxes, what use is a stable secure system if you cant even use it to do what you want to do? can take HOURS just to install one simple app
  3. I downloaded and extracted gDesklets-0.34.1, now when i try to ./configure i get the following error: Package pygtk-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `pygtk-2.0.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'pygtk-2.0' found configure: error: Library requirements (pygtk-2.0 >= 2.4.0 pyorbit-2 >= 2.0.1 gnome-python-2.0 >= 2.6.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. I already installed pygtk and all the python packages, but stil no luck, whats this "PKG_CONFIG_PATH" ? Edit: I thought I'd find a ready-made RPM to ease up installation.. thing is, i get similar crap with the RPM :\ error: Failed dependencies: gnome-python-gconf is needed by gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk gnome-python-gtkhtml2 is needed by gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk gnome-python-gnomevfs is needed by gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk gdesklets-display is needed by gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk libgtop-2.0.so.4 is needed by gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk libhowl.so.0 is needed by gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk [moved from Software by spinynorman]

    Lilo broken =(

ok, just got back in knoppix, config file: # /etc/lilo.conf - See: `lilo(8)' and `lilo.conf(5)', # --------------- `install-mbr(8)', `/usr/share/doc/lilo/', # and `/usr/share/doc/mbr/'. # +---------------------------------------------------------------+ # | !! Reminder !! | # | | # | Don't forget to run `lilo' after you make changes to this | # | conffile, `/boot/bootmess.txt', or install a new kernel. The | # | computer will most likely fail to boot if a kernel-image | # | post-install script or you don't remember to run `lilo'. | # | | # +---------------------------------------------------------------+ # Support LBA for large hard disks. # lba32 # Specifies the boot device. This is where Lilo installs its boot # block. It can be either a partition, or the raw device, in which # case it installs in the MBR, and will overwrite the current MBR. # boot=/dev/hda # Specifies the device that should be mounted as root. (`/') # # Enable map compaction: # Tries to merge read requests for adjacent sectors into a single # read request. This drastically reduces load time and keeps the # map smaller. Using `compact' is especially recommended when # booting from a floppy disk. It is disabled here by default # because it doesn't always work. # # compact # Installs the specified file as the new boot sector # install=/boot/boot-menu.b backup=/dev/null # Specifies the location of the map file # map=/boot/map # You can set a password here, and uncomment the `restricted' lines # in the image definitions below to make it so that a password must # be typed to boot anything but a default configuration. If a # command line is given, other than one specified by an `append' # statement in `lilo.conf', the password will be required, but a # standard default boot will not require one. # # This will, for instance, prevent anyone with access to the # console from booting with something like `Linux init=/bin/sh', # and thus becoming `root' without proper authorization. # # Note that if you really need this type of security, you will # likely also want to use `install-mbr' to reconfigure the MBR # program, as well as set up your BIOS to disallow booting from # removable disk or CD-ROM, then put a password on getting into the # BIOS configuration as well. Please RTFM `install-mbr(8)'. # # password=tatercounter2000 # Specifies the number of deciseconds (0.1 seconds) LILO should # wait before booting the first image. # # delay=20 timeout=100 # You can put a customized boot message up if you like. If you use # `prompt', and this computer may need to reboot unattended, you # must specify a `timeout', or it will sit there forever waiting # for a keypress. `single-key' goes with the `alias' lines in the # `image' configurations below. eg: You can press `1' to boot # `Linux', `2' to boot `LinuxOLD', if you uncomment the `alias'. # # message=/boot/bootmess.txt # prompt # single-key # delay=100 # timeout=100 # Specifies the VGA text mode at boot time. (normal, extended, ask, <mode>) # # vga=ask # vga=9 # vga=normal # Kernel command line options that apply to all installed images go # here. See: The `boot-prompt-HOWO' and `kernel-parameters.txt' in # the Linux kernel `Documentation' directory. # append="" # Boot up Linux by default. # default=Knoppix image=/vmlinuz append="lang=de apm=power-off hda=scsi hdb=scsi hdc=scsi hdd=scsi hde=scsi hdf=scsi hdg=scsi hdh=scsi vga=791 quiet BOOT_IMAGE=knoppix" root=/dev/hda5 label=Knoppix read-write # restricted # alias=1 #image=/vmlinuz.old # label=Linux-OLD # read-only # optional # restricted # alias=2 # If you have another OS on this machine to boot, you can uncomment the # following lines, changing the device name on the `other' line to # where your other OS' partition is. # other=/dev/hda1 label=WinXP restricted alias=3

    Lilo broken =(

i recently installed winxp on the rest of the hdd space i had, but now when i turn on teh computer, it just goes straight into xp, i asked around other places they said something about my MBR being overwritten? eh they told me to boot from the cd, i posted back that the cd just takes me into setup, and when i hit F1 for options, it goes into setup anyway, so question now is, how do i get into mandrake...?
  20. ahhh got it working now, had to do ./visualboyadvance game-name :)
  21. ok, i downloaded this earlier, gotta have teh gameboy games, and i have no idea where to start, there is an executable file in there but when i ./ it, i just get a bunch of options, and nothing on how to start playing it, the readme says i need gcc, i have gcc, and it tells me to read INSTALL, heh there aint even an INSTALL in there... got version 1.7 (eh says something about glib22) as you probably know, im a linux noob... any help appreciated Moved from Games by DOlson
  22. WHOA, i cant even start it up now ! vfs: cant find ext3 filesystem on dev hda5 pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2 unmount /initrd/sys failed : 2 unmuont /initrd/proc failed : 2 initrd finished kernel panic: no init found. try passing init= option to kernel WHAT! virus? this cant happen from opening an mp3???
  23. the problem seems to be a lot bigger. the gui is ALL jacked up, and its changing everything into read only, when i tried to turn it off, it gave me a whole bunch of ext3 journalize errors..... but all this from just opening one. mp3?
  24. hmm weird.. when i try to open a specific song from my win ntfs partition, amaroK just freezes up, and if i try to unmount windows, i just get: [root@localhost jas]# umount /mnt/windows umount: /mnt/windows: device is busy umount: /mnt/windows: device is busy help :( Moved from Software Forum to Terminal Shell Commands, Kernel and Programming Forum by Artificial Intelligence
