  1. had to format my windows partition today [not a surprise]... and next time i rebooted i realized lilo was gone.. so i put in the mandriva dvd... go to F1 and hit rescue, then I tried to reinstall the boot loader.. but it just kept giving me error 2... cant remember what the exact message was.. something about cant write to root and drakx or something...anyone know any quick fix or should i go write down the entire error message?

  2. i wanna buy a logitech gamepad, but not sure what to buy.. the other day my cuz brought his gamepad over, and I tried to use it with zsnes and mupen64... but it was lagging, i'd press a button, and it would respond like 2 seconds later.. i'm currently using a gravis gamepad pro.. and it has no lag at all... was just wondering why the Logitech would've lagged? don't wanna go out and buy one and then have it lag on me.... any suggestions?

  3. hey.. how would i set permissions on a folder... say chmod a-r and then make all of the files inside of that folder also not-readable.. trying to make my entire logs folder of gaim non-readable.. pain in the ass doing every folder one by one everyday lol.. thanks ;)

  4. the only reason i have vmware installed, is so that i can use my parallel port, and the ONLY thing that doesnt work is the damned parallel port itself, no matter how many times i reconfigure it, or if i reboot, it ALWAYS tells me that /dev/parport0 is used by another program (such as another instance of VMWare Workstation) or driver (such as lp). Virtual device parallel0 will start disconnected

    :furious3::help::furious3:

  5. yesterday i was screwing around with vmware and it kept saying /dev/parport0 was being used by something else, so i just removed parport0 from /dev

problem is, now when i rebooted its still not there :help:

what do i do to make it redetect it?

    Python 2.3.4 (#2, Feb  9 2005, 14:22:48)
    [GCC 3.4.1 (Mandrakelinux 10.1 3.4.1-4mdk)] on linux2

    [jas@localhost jas]$ whereis python
    python: /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/lib/python2.3
    /usr/local/bin/python2.4 /usr/local/bin/python /usr/local/lib/python2.4
    /usr/share/man/man1/python.1.bz2

  7. ok, just tried that:

    [jas@localhost jas]$ dmesg | grep usb
usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using address 2
usb 2-1: control timeout on ep0out

heh, it works fine under linspire though ;x without having to toy around or waste any time doing anything, just plug it in and it works.. heh why cant mandrake be more like that, noticed my wireless "just works" with it too ;\

  8. nope, still same error :(

    [root@localhost jas]# mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/mp3
mount: special device /dev/sda does not exist
    [root@localhost jas]# mount -t vfat /dev/sdb /mnt/mp3
mount: special device /dev/sdb does not exist

why isnt there good plug and play support :furious3:

  9. I have a 512MB SanDisk MP3 player, I'd like to know how i can copy my music to it in mdk 10.1 o_O i hooked it up and tried looking around in /mnt/ and /dev/ but i honestly have no idea what im doing, tried searching google etc on the prob, found nothing, someone :help:

  10. well, i think i finally found something, i deleted EVERYTHING that had python in it (yeah it screwed everything up first) and then i went back and installed all the stuff with urpmi, and then i did urpmi gdesklets and i have it all installed, now, when i try and actually run something, i get:

    (gDesklets Shell:24978): GConf-CRITICAL **: file gconf-client.c: line 547 (gconf_client_add_dir): assertion `gconf_valid_key (dirname, NULL)' failed

no idea at all now, but i went back and tried to install updated rpm/source and i still get the same yucky errors =\ i dont care if im using an old version as long as it works :(

edit; im guessing im getting all these errors because of python? so the question would be how do i configure it correctly, cause i tried to install superkaramba just now and the errors im being returned are cause of python

  11. well, after 24+ hrs of still not having figured out the problem, i decided to give up and try superkaramba, first tried installing from source [that never works anyway] so i go to find an rpm, installed it, and when i open it, i click open theme, im trying to use liquid weather plus, i can see where the window is supposed to be, but its just blank, it displays my desktops wallpaper in that little box... installing things on linux SUCKS, why the hell cant they copy a good thing like installshield from windows =\ who the hell likes to sit there to compile a thousand things with a hundred errors anyway, installing something simple like this is supposed to be a 30 second process, not 24 hours

  12. ok when i did urpmi gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk.i586.rpm i get:

Some package requested cannot be installed:
    gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied libhowl.so.0)

and when i did rpm -ivh --nodeps gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk.i586.rpm it installed and then i did /usr/bin/gdesklets and i get:

    [root@localhost jas]# /usr/bin/gdesklets
    Traceback (most recent call last):
     File "/usr/bin/gdesklets", line 3, in ?
from main import client, HOME, USERHOME, LOGFILE, PID_PATH, SOCKET_PATH, DISPLAY

     File "/home/goetz/tmp/gdesklets-buildroot/usr/lib/gdesklets/utils/__init__.py", line 7, in ?
    ImportError: No module named threading

  13. i already installed the python-devel package, along with like 20 others, the RPM _STILL_ doesnt work, i get:

    error: Failed dependencies:
           gnome-python is needed by gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk
           gdesklets-display is needed by gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk
           libgtop-2.0.so.4 is needed by gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk
           libhowl.so.0 is needed by gdesklets-0.34.1-1mdk

so when i try to install them, i get:

    [root@localhost jas]# urpmi gnome-python
    Everything already installed

    :furious3:

  14. trying from source, i get:

checking for a Python interpreter with version >= 2.3... python
    checking for python... /usr/bin/python
    checking for python version... 2.4

    checking for /usr/include/python2.4/Python.h... no
configure: error: Can't find Python.h! You will need the python development package
                 to successfully compile gDesklets.

but i've already installed all the python packages =\

oh and ever since i updated the easy-urpmi when i go to upgrade in mcc, it tells me my packages cant be updated :wall:
