  1. I am having the same problem as http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/post-147825.html but I have two monitors. I have tried manually editing the configuaration file but each time I try to launch X after it won't. My graphic cards are a trident 9660 and a Geforce2. I have a 15 and a 17 inch monitor. I am having the problems with the 17 inch monitor. If you need more information please ask. [moved from Software by spinynorman] [Edit] After running the display manger many times it has corrected itself.
  2. I have just started using it. So far I have got it to run WIn98 on Mandrake 10.0. I have a few small problems but otherwise it runs fine but a little slow.

    XPDE

    When I extract it it is not source code which is what is confusing me. There are two directories, bin and src.

    XPDE

    I need to install XPde for my parents on their computer so that they can use Mandrake Linux(Which I installed ofr them). THe problem is they have no clue how to use KDE and need something alot closer to Windows. I decided on XPde becuase I could find any better ones. I don't know how to install it and need a lot of help installing it on Mandrake 10.0.
  6. I am trying to install VMware 4.5.2 Build 8848 on Mandrake 10.0 with 2.6.3-7mdk kernel. I have installed Vmware and when I try to run it is says to run vmware-config.pl. I run it and then it says that there are no matching vmmon modules for mmy running kernel and if I would like to compile one. I hit yes and then it asks me for the location of a compiler. I use the defult and then it asks me for the locaton of my C header files. I can't find these files and I am having trouble with the new one I compiled(See one of my other topics). I need to know how I can get the headers or get my other kernel working.
  7. Here are the results: ls -l /boot total 14336 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 512 Sep 4 13:36 boot.0300 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Oct 29 19:58 config -> config-2.6.3-7mdk -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 54087 Mar 17 2004 config-2.6.3-7mdk -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5032 Feb 19 2004 diag1.img -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 16796 Feb 19 2004 diag2.img drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Sep 4 13:14 grub/ -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 342684 Sep 20 20:07 initrd-2.6.3-7mdk.img lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Sep 4 13:36 initrd.img -> initrd-2.6.3-7mdk.img -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 341083 Sep 27 19:26 initrd-win4lin-2.6.3-7mdk.img lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 Sep 27 19:26 initrd-win4lin.img -> initrd-win4lin-2.6.3-7mdk.img lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 Oct 29 19:58 kernel.h -> /boot/kernel.h-2.6.3-7mdk -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 537 Sep 4 17:50 kernel.h-2.6.3-7mdk -rw------- 1 root root 577536 Oct 29 15:06 map lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Oct 27 07:18 message -> message-graphic -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 442273 Sep 27 19:26 message-graphic -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 116 Sep 4 13:41 message-text lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Sep 22 16:47 System.map -> System.map-2.6.3-7mdk -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 898908 Mar 17 2004 System.map-2.6.3-7mdk lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Sep 4 17:49 System.map.pre-win4lin -> System.map-2.6.3-7mdk -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1009485 Oct 19 12:17 System.map.win4lin -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 743434 Apr 2 2004 System.map.win4lin-2.6.3-7mdk -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 256 Sep 4 13:36 us.klt -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1440700 Sep 27 20:29 vmkernel lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Sep 4 13:36 vmlinuz -> vmlinuz-2.6.3-7mdk -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1440198 Mar 17 2004 vmlinuz-2.6.3-7mdk -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1440704 Oct 21 21:05 vmwareker -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1407493 Oct 27 07:14 vmwarekers -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3042368 Oct 19 12:17 win4lin -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1428330 Apr 2 2004 win4lin-2.6.3-7mdk cat /etc/lilo.conf # File generated by DrakX/drakboot # WARNING: do not forget to run lilo after modifying this file boot=/dev/hda map=/boot/map default="Mandrake_10.0" keytable=/boot/us.klt prompt nowarn timeout=1000 message=/boot/message menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw image=/boot/vmlinuz label="Mandrake_10.0" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="devfs=mount acpi=ht splash=silent mem=256M" vga=788 read-only other=/dev/hda2 label="WindowsXp" table=/dev/hda image=/boot/win4lin-2.6.3-7mdk label="Mandrake_10_Win4lin" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd-win4lin-2.6.3-7mdk.img append="devfs=mount acpi=ht splash=silent mem=256M" vga=788 read-only image=/boot/vmkernel label="Linux_2.6.3-16_Vmware" root=/dev/hda1 append="mem=256M" read-only image=/boot/win4lin label="Win4Lin_Generic_Kernel" root=/dev/hda1 append="mem=256M" read-only image=/boot/vmwareker label="Vmwaresource" root=/dev/hda1 append="mem=256M" read-only image=/boot/vmwarekers label="Vmware_Kernel_Compiled_Oct27" root=/dev/hda1 read-only
  8. I mange to make my dads winxp computer look like a mac but what I want now is to run the programs(web browsers mostly).
  9. A mac is a bit too much for my budget right now otherwise I would.
  10. I get the following error message each time I try to boot the kernel I compiled. I compiled the kernel (2.6.3-16) on my computer following instructions I found on a website. How can I fix this problem?
  11. I was wondreding about running Mac OS X on my pc. So far the only ways I have fou are to use PearPC, wait for CherryOS to come out or wait for SoftPear. Does anyone know of any other ways and which way would be the easiest.
  12. I have installed a patched kernel but the installer still says that the kernel is not supported.
  13. There are no precompiled kernel on the site for Mandrake 10, the generic ones don't work and I don't know how to aplly a patch file. I download 4.5.2 but I haven't gotten it installed yet. I need the kernel source but can't find it on my system and I don't want to upgrade my kernel if I can aviod it. I tried it but I keep getting an error. Some package requested cannot be installed: flightgear-0.9.5-2mdk.src (due to unsatisfied openal-devel) do you agree ?
  14. I'm for games I am mainly looking at Flight Simulators. I have Ms Flight Sim 98, 2004 and Combat Fs and Combat and 2004 don't run under cedega but the website doesn't say anything about 98. If I can't run them then I will need to find some good ones to run on Linux. As for OSes I have the Win95, 98, NT 4.0, 200 and xp installion disks. I am curntey dual booting Xp and Madrake but I find it is a bit of a hassel to reboot all the time. If I cann't run my games then I also who like to run MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver and Corel Painter.
