  1. Yes I admit that but actually I planned to have 1.2 GB RAM because I am running creasy calculations that needs creasy memory and I used to hear that the swap should be twice the RAM. Now I have 1.2 GB RAM and 1.5 swap. Does it make sens? I am very new to Linux and don't know about the swap partition. But I just reported my bad experience with hibernate since I had more than enoug swap space and I had to rinstall to get the laptop working! May be there are more than an issue with hibernate? Yassine
  2. I have 1.5 GB swap and 512 MB RAM and had a big trouble with hibernate on Mke10.0 official I could never restore my computer session. I am sure there are other problems with hibernate.
  3. I am not sure that the problem has something to do with the swap since I have 1.5 GB (512 MB RAM) and got the same stupid problem with hibernate. As for the swap I used to set it to twice the RAM (saw it somewhere). But this time I increased it because I am running calculations with my laptop that takes a lot of RAM.
  4. Hi, I had the same disaster as you two days ago when I tried to hibernate my laptop. I couldn't get Linux to boot correctely and ended up with a new fresh install. I was surprised though when reinstalled Linux since I couldn't recover my data (something must happen with the partitions, but I don't really know). I think you should follow pmpatrick's advice and try to backup as much as you can and reinstall (30 min). This is the warning you get when activating the advanced ACPI options ''The /usr/bin/klaptop_acpi_helper application does not seem to have the same size or checksum as when it was compiled we do NOT recommend you proceed with making it setuid-root without further investigation'' Since I am not an expert I would just recommend to avoid that in case. Good luck Yassine
  5. Hi devries, I am sorry, it is 3.2. I figured out what was the problem. It is my fault, I activated the proxy to have access to scientific journals from my old university and forget to inactivate it:) Now it is as rapid as Mozilla. So turn off the proxy Sorry guys. Yassine
  6. Hi guys, I have been surfing with Konqueror all the time and I never had any problem. But, these days Konqueror is very very slow for some reason?? Mozilla loads any webpage much faster than Konqueror. Do you have any suggestion? Thanx Yassine
  7. Hi I had the same problem with mdk10 but someone else helped me. he started some services like acpi and other things that I don't remember. After that I went to the mcc and I checked the acpi in the boot section. Then after a reboot I had the Klaptop indicator and it worked quiet nicely. But I noticed that one of the fans was running too much compared when the Klaptop wasn't operated. Anyway, I reinstalled and now I can not get it working. I checked the acpi in the boot section but the power manger doesn't work. It indicates that I have to enable the 'AC Adaptor' and the 'Control Method Battery' but I don't now how to do so. You can also install GKrellm and see if it works for you (it doesn't for my Compaq presario R3055CA). I think there is a post about acpi and battery indicator somewhere here in this section of the forum. Check it, that may help you.
  8. Sure enough I am happy since I just switched to Linux from that damn MS windows I would prefer to struggle some times with Linux rather than using MS.
  9. Thanks it works that way. I want just to point out that when typing a wrong command like mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/cle that seems to force mdk to create a file /mnt/removable, mount the USB drive in that one and create a shortcut on the desktop that I have access to it!! Amazing! Anyways, both ways work so ''que demande le peuple de plus!'' Thanks again aRTee for helping
  10. Hi I am sorry I had troubles with my internet connection. 13. Hi, I installed mdk 10.0 ten days ago on my laptop and It worked nicely with my Iomega diskonkey (removable Mini USB 128 MB drive). I could plug it and it is mounted automtically (/mnt/removable). Now I can't get it working unless I start HardDrake and run Config tool. After that a shortcut on my desktop appears. But it works when I remove it, mdk remove the shortcut and unmount the device automatically! When I create a file /mnt/key and mount it with the command : mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/key I get the following error message mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda, or too many mounted file systems but now I can see the shortcut created on my desktop and my device working!!! Here is a copy of my /mnt/fstab file ------------------------------------------------- /dev/hda5 / ext3 noatime 1 1 none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0 /dev/hda7 /home ext3 noatime 1 2 /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec 0 0 /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows ntfs umask=0,nls=iso8859-1,ro 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hda6 swap swap defaults 0 0 none /mnt/removable supermount dev=/dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/part1,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,kudzu,codepage=850 0 --------------------------------------- Any suggestion Thanks Yassine
  14. Thanks a lot coverup. Actually, I tried to install the ATI proprietary drivers and I think I scrapped the Xconfig file. I reinstalled Linux and I left the default choice of Mandrake as you suggested. Mandrake works nicely but I don't know if 3D acceleration works. Anyway, I should order my PowerPack 10.0 from MandrakeSoft so I get their latest drivers for my ATI. Otherwise I will ask somebody that knows Linux to help me with installing ATI drivers. Thanks again coverup. I am sure I will enjoy Linux and the usergroup.
  15. Hi guys, I tried to install Mandrake 10.0 (free downloaded version) without success on my Compaq presario notebook (R3055CA) with ATI Mobility radeon 9000 IGP. None of the video drivers worked with my ATI card. I didn't try to start X since none of the tests worked. Do you have any suggestions guys? Thanks PS: I am very new to Linux.
