  1. No, the server is being moved. If you require my tutorials in the meantime, I can provide them. Please private message me or email me, if this is the case.
  2. Star Control 2 comes with a binary, last I checked. I have an RPM for Freespace somewhere, but I don't know if it works with Mandrake 9.
  3. Well, how the hell would I know? I only buy Linux games, and no Star Wars game is a Linux game yet.
  4. For all you ATI fans and whatever other cards there are still, you oughtta try the game if you can, using the latest patch, as you no longer require S3TC.
  5. Email them. I'd contact the CEO about it. :) I think I may, even though I don't like Star Wars. I don't think it will happen though, especially after the verbal abuse they take in their own forums. His name is ray. And you know that BioWare email addresses end with @bioware.com...
  6. Hmm... I don't know if Valgrind will do it or not, but that's the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe check into that.
  7. LGP is taking too long to port games - they have about 2 or 3 more games after Disciples 2 that they are releasing, but this will take a long time. That SUCKS for us, but it's good for THEM. They are the ones that matter in this case, since they don't want to follow Loki to the grave. I don't blame them for this. But time goes not nearly fast enough for my liking.
  8. I'd like to see figures, if they're available, on who bought UT2003 because it had a Linux installer. You're right, though; but I don't see major companies just giving up on Linux as a gaming platform. There will come a time that Bill Gates does something so outlandish that people will start looking for alternatives. Those people will still want their games, and hopefully game companies will stand up and take notice of that. This has already happened. It's called Transgaming, and it's bringing warez kiddies to Linux. Well, enough of that. I think we should fight back by warezing their software. But then again, their software sucks, so that idea won't work. Oh, and you can email Epic and ask them approximately how many people have contacted them and/or purchased from TuxGames, but I don't know if they'll respond. I still doubt it's over 20K. The sales at TuxGames were worst in November, and that's about when it came out, so what's that tell you? Plus a lot of people don't even know that the client is in the box (if you have a DVD case version and you live in America, good for you!).
  9. No way am I waiting till Christmas for Doom III!!!!! But anyhow, yeah, don't warez the games you can buy from TuxGames. I mean, don't warez games. I mean, don't pay for crap that sucks. I try a few games before I buy them. If they suck, I delete them. If they don't suck, I buy them. For instance, Kohan by Transgaming. Tried it, it sucks. Mindrover, tried it, couldn't figure it out, but since it's not a Transgaming "port" I'm gonna buy it. Or something.
  10. There comes a point when people need to move forward. People don't want to move to Linux because there are no new games, yet then others ask for old games... Myself, I'd say forget it. It's too old now. But, I would buy it if it was ported. I bought BG2 a while back solely because Transgaming claimed WineX would run it, but it sucks majorly. I haven't touched it since then, and never will. :(
  11. I said we aren't a viable gaming market. And we aren't. If none of the games that are out there have sold more than 20K copies, then how can we be even be considered as a market?
  12. Or, they'll realize how ungrateful and whiney all the Linux users are on their forums and they'll just saw "screw it all." I'm betting on that... I'd really hope it doesn't turn out that way, but I can't see them actually ENJOYING the verbal abuse. And since we aren't a viable market anyhow, then I don't think they'll have any reason to do it. I'm just happy they won't cancel NWN for Linux. I have contacted them many times, just telling them that besides all the negativity on their forums there are REAL Linux users out there who do care about their work and don't take it for granted, and aren't bitching about it day in and day out.

    Mig Alley port

ral, think about the two OSes... Which one is less stable? Now, think about the crackaddict who's porting the game. How can it not turn out perfect?

    Mig Alley port

I have it on good authority that someone is going to attempt porting Mig Alley. ;) ;) It isn't me, no. I wish I knew how to port. If I did, I'd work on Battle of Britain. Any takers?

    NWN client delayed

I have a list of games like that on my site, and there are more too. I am working on a major site update, at which point I will have more games listed.
  18. Yes is does. Did you see the logo? Obviously whoever would actually bother making a curling game HAD to be stoned. So now, go and port Mig Alley plzhthx.
  19. In which case, maybe you'd like that curling game called "stoned" ?

Umm... Which id Software game would require emulation, exactly??

What you are saying WILL happen - all in due time. However, there are some major things preventing it right now: 1) Small-spread use of Linux BY GAMERS. Once more people start switching over and STOP buying Windows games (for play with WineX) then the Windows game sales will drop. This will be easily explained to game publishers IF people email them asking about any possible Linux games. I am at this stage now, as are many others, just simply not enough to make a difference at this time. 2) Non profitability for the Linux games. Electronics Boutique was burned by Loki games not selling, as evidenced by them still having the odd Loki title priced at $3... They have turned down LGP's titles, to the best of my knowledge... Most likely for the fear that they will end up losing money again. If Linux gamers had got themselves educated about what games were out there, and then actually went and bought them, then EB wouldn't feel this way today. There isn't any profit for Linux games. YET. 3) Companies offer games as DOWNLOAD-ONLY. This has got to be stopped. I read up on the recent Transgaming "ports" of the Kohan series, and I, at one point, considered buying one. But I decided to get the Loki version instead, because of a few reasons... One, downloads are an inaccurate way to measure sales, unless you're only allowed to download it once, in which case, what happens if it gets corrupted during the download? Also, it's not a true port, since it uses Transgaming's version of Winelib - this is essentially a Win32 product packaged in an installer (I assume it has an installer). I refuse to buy any games that are "ported" like this. But I'm getting off-topic now, and my point is here that many gamers want the actual CD. There are lots of benefits to owning the CD. I'll let you think about them. 4) Not enough selection. You know it as well as I do, but there just isn't enough selection to satisfy *most* Linux users. Out of this was born WineX, which also happens to draw warez kiddies to Linux as well... Unfortunately. Now, explain to me, how will the selection ever grow when people will just use an emulation layer to play the games because they are too impatient to wait for a Linux version? The LEAST these people could do is email the company telling them their interest in the game for Linux. But most of them don't. 5) Publication costs are too high. It isn't feasible, in my opinion, for a company to release a separate boxed version of their game for Linux. This means twice the costs for publishing the boxes and manuals, as well as pressing the CDs. Perhaps at a later date, but not right now. The downloadable client method, for most companies, is the better way to befriend the Linux users right now. That said, there are a few companies that do publish Linux games. At least one that I know of - LGP. They are nearly done Majesty, and are porting and publishing Disciples 2 after that. These games are in separate boxes, but this doesn't cost the original company, since LGP has to deal with all those details. All that said, I'll now respond to your comments about buying the Windows CDs... This is a choice one has to make for themselves - further the Windows market statistics, or support Linux in the easiest, most unconvenient way possible - ORDER ONLINE. That's right. You *CAN* order Windows games with Linux ports online. I order from TuxGames. There are other retaillers, and I'm sure they will report their sales as Linux sales, but I KNOW that TuxGames does, and that's why I ordered UT2K3 when it came out from them, instead of walking to EB and buying it there. Will it be convenient for you? Pfft, no. You'll have to wait for anywhere from a couple days up to over two weeks, depending on your location and where your order ships from, to get your games. You may pay more for the same CD than you would from buying it in Electronics Boutique... But the question still ends up being: How bad do you really want to see Linux succeed? How loyal are you? How much do you, personally, want to contribute to Linux's success in the gaming market? Take part now, and get yourself bragging rights when this OS gets kicked up a notch and starts getting major attention from other big publishers. Or reject this call to arms, and live with the fact that you just sat by the wayside and watched the Linux gaming market crumble.
  22. Hey pothead. If I were you, I'd go and get the Loki installer for Quake 2. Look on my games article. Also, go to icculus.org and look for the hheretic project... I think that's where it's from. Dunno anything about Duke Nukem, but I know that Serious Sam reminds me of it, but it's better.
  23. This curling game I found today rocks (no pun intended...). I think it's great, and I hate real curling. Here's the URL: http://www.webhome.de/stoned/index.html The logo says a lot about the people who curl in real life, I would think. Enjoy!

I don't think I understood that last comment... Lots of Linux games require the Windows CDs...
  25. From http://nwn.bioware.com/downloads/linuxclient.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [Dec 14 2002] FANTASTIC NEWS! We have just been informed by Rad Game Tools (http://www.radgametools.com) that they have Linux versions of both Bink and Miles. We will be getting our hands on these tools on Monday and we should have further information for you then. This solves the two outstanding issues with the Linux Client, and I bet we will have even more good news for you in the coming week in terms of future Betas or Demos of the Linux Client. We here at BioWare are thrilled with this development. We would like to apologise for the confusion arising from the Dec 13th update where it seem like we were blaming Rad for the delay. This is entirely untrue. We were stating that, to the best of our knowledge, we would have to find our own solutions for movie and sound playing in the Linux Client. This is no longer the case and we look forward to using the Linux Rad Game Tools just like we are in the Windows and upcoming Mac version. Rejoice!
