  1. Well to be honest it's just a case of messing with your /home/username/i18n

    FIle. mines looks like this.

    LANGUAGE=en_GB.UTF-8

    GTK_IM_MODULE=uim-anthy

    LC_ADDRESS=en_GB

    LC_COLLATE=ja_JP.UTF-8

    XIM=uim-anthy

    LC_NAME=en_GB

    LC_NUMERIC=en_GB

    LC_MEASUREMENT=en_GB

    LC_TIME=ja_JP.UTF-8

    LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8

    LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_GB

    LC_MESSAGES=ja_JP.UTF-8

    LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.UTF-8

    LC_TELEPHONE=en_GB

    ENC=eucj

    LC_MONETARY=en_GB

    XIM_PROGRAM=uim-xim

    LC_PAPER=en_GB

    XMODIFIERS="@im=uim-anthy"

    If you have any other problems just keep messing around with it, like i did.

  2. Alright it's back in japanese again, im not gonna delete the language pack, because i need it. So any idea what file i should edit to get gaim back to english.

    EDIT: I figured it out. Now i have everything they way i want it, thank you everyone for your help.

  3. try replacing the ja_JP with ja_JP.UTF-8

    Also, instead of modifying the /etc/sysconfig/i18n, you can copy the file to ~/.i18n (hidden file). This way, you don't have to mess with system wide settings and the changes to ~/.i18n take effect once you log out and in again instead of having to reboot.

    If this doesn't work, try modifying the /etc/fstab entry. Maybe

    iocharset=iso-2022-jp instead of iocharset=utf8 will do. Or maybe it has to be

    iocharset=iso2022jp (not sure).

    Alright i did that, but i didn't do it in the hidden folder i did it in system wide settings. And i still have a problem, first thing is a lot of programs are now half japanese, i only wanted to see stuff i had that was originally japanese on my windows drive. And it doesn't even show the full file name it has missing characters etc. And now my files have a lock on them and when i click it says the file doesn't exist!

    EDIT: if i can't fix this i might aswell delete linux, i can't live without my music and other files.

    Wow wow forget all that i just typed, i managed to get it working woo hoo i edited the file in the home directory like you said, and i can now see my files! one problem though, gaim is completely japanese. Any ideas how to fix it?

    EDIT: I figured it out. Now i have everything they way i want it, thank you everyone for your help.

  4. Thanks for your help, im getting a bit closer now. I actually think it's a font problem now, hopefully you will be able to tell. I made those changes and i can now see the directorys that normally wouldn't show up at all, but they show up with Squares etc which you can see in the attached pic.

    Here is my new /etc/sysconfig/i18n/

    SYSFONTACM=iso15

    LANGUAGE=en_GB:en

    LC_ADDRESS=en_GB

    LC_COLLATE=ja_JP

    LC_NAME=en_GB

    LC_NUMERIC=en_GB

    LC_MEASUREMENT=en_GB

    LC_TIME=en_GB

    LANG=ja_JP

    LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_GB

    LC_MESSAGES=ja_JP

    LC_CTYPE=ja_JP

    LC_TELEPHONE=en_GB

    LC_MONETARY=en_GB

    LC_PAPER=en_GB

    SYSFONT=lat0-16

  5. I don't think im ever going to get this right. Anyway i read somewhere i need to change my /etc/sysconfig/i18n/

    Here is what it currently contains.

    SYSFONTACM=iso15

    LANGUAGE=en_GB:en

    LC_ADDRESS=en_GB

    LC_COLLATE=en_GB

    LC_NAME=en_GB

    LC_NUMERIC=en_GB

    LC_MEASUREMENT=en_GB

    LC_TIME=en_GB

    LANG=en_GB

    LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_GB

    LC_MESSAGES=en_GB

    LC_CTYPE=en_GB

    LC_TELEPHONE=en_GB

    LC_MONETARY=en_GB

    LC_PAPER=en_GB

    SYSFONT=lat0-16

    Any idea what to change? if im supposed to change it that is.

  6. Yes it's a windows partiton i copied your fstab bit noauto,iocharset=utf8,ro,umask=0 0 0.

    But i still don't see my files that are in kanji (filenames ,they just don't show the files at all not even with squilly squares) i don't even know if i have those fonts.

    EDIT: could you post a link to those fonts ^_~

  7. I managed to fix it, well not really fix it. I have a lot of Jpop music on my system and it doesn't show up because it's tagged in japanese so i thought if i installed the japanese language pack it would show my files, but it never did. So i just uninstalled the japanese language pack and gaim went back to english.
