I fixed it, there is a bug with DHCP3. I had to edit /etc/resolv.conf

Alright i managed to get it installed, first of all they choose some great apps, firefox, gaim etc seems like a real nice distro and was a very easy installation. One huge problem though, i can't connect to the internet, honestly i must of tryed for an hour or so and had no luck what so ever, im using a D-link 300t ADSL ethernet modem, just incase anyone wanted to know, it uses DHCP to assign the ip address. Ok so when i go to my D-link 300t setup screen(192.169.1.1) it says my connection is running, so i try to access websites but no they just say "cannot be found" anyone had any luck with this and would like to kindly point me in the right direction?

To be honest i don't really agree with what mandrakesoft is doing, i really think it should be free yes as in free of charge, there stupid club is kind of pointless, having to pay for something just to get the latest updates, i think mandrakesoft are beng selfish. Think about it, yes we have the new let's say gnome rpm's available for you to install. BUT ONLY IF YOUR A CLUB MEMBER, makes me really angry when i see this sort of thing but ack oh well.

I don't even want to know. :P

uhm when i searched urpmi i couldn't find any mandrake 10.1.

What so if you update mandrake via urpmi there is no need to burn cd's or anything?

Most .sh files are executed by using this command sh nameoffile.sh

I was messing around with my ftp server and i read somewhere you could mount other folders from different filesystems, anyway i did and now i don't know how to unmount them. 0_0

Those are the ones i want to remove, so i tried the command.

umount /home/lowe/Documents/lossless

Then it gave me this message.

umount: it seems /home/lowe/Documents/lossless is mounted multiple times

Any ideas?

I'm having a problem changing icons for file types, like i have been trying to change all my files that end in .mp3 .flac .ape to a custom icon, but when i go to the directory to see if it's changed it's still the same.

And yes i followed the manual, i went to App's > System > Config > gnome > advanced > " file types and programs" and i changed them all to the custom icons, but the damn thing doesn't work. I wonder why, do you know? :P

I don't know if this is the right forum, but since there is no actual general help forum i will post it here. IS there any encoding like Shift_JIS but for linux? UTF-8 isn't so great and i can't find any shift_jis packages for linux, i now know why not all my files were showing it's because i needed my encoding to be Shift_jis but if there isn't a package well, i don't know what to do. 0_0

As far as i know it's not recommended to use rpm's from other distros but i have had no problem using red hat rpm's although SuSe was a different story.

Nothing new just changed my wallpaper and removed the top bar. Oh and removed gdesklets i knew it was a bad idea having that on a pc with 256mb ram. So what do you think i should change?

I suppose i can wait, i really don't want to upgrade to 10.1 to much of a fuss. Although gnome on the other hand really needs to be upgraded, but i will wait, even though i really really want it. ;_;

Still no one answered my question. So will rpm's be released for 10.0?

I don't see no fake_windows/Windows/ where is it i can't find it, or would i need to create that myself if so where?

Yeah but they won't work on 10.0. I don't wanna have to update to 10.1 just to get the new gnome. ;)

But if we just wait a week someone will release RPM's surely?

As much as i love firefox i will wait until the actual release of 1.0. I was never a fan of beta's.

Alright one thing i dislike about gnome is how it has a top bar and a bottom bar, what i wanna do is get the top down to the bottom and then uhm remove the top bar. Or look at the screenshot to see what i mean.

Nah i don't like dual booting, besides it's a case of this. Log into xp, wait like 10 mins for everything to start up OMG SO SLOW! Then when it finally starts up, missing DLL! missing left nut! it's a total mess i keep out of there.

I have no problems finding japanese music on BT, but there is never any in ape/flac formats, also very rare to see any hentai game music on BT. I won't be going back to winblows, ever again, even though i will miss winny. :sad:
