  1. I was so exited to try out MDV 2007.1 Spring on my spare partition on my laptop. It is just beautiful, most things works like a charm, especially the 3d desktop that I tried to configure under 2007.0 but never succeeded.

So far only 1 major problem for me to handle that is the Atheros Wifi bit.

However there is a small regression here: The Ctrl+Wheel trick does not work in 2007.1

It was working on the same laptop with the same mouse using 2007.0

    Can someone help me please?

  2. I downloaded the installation scrip and run the script. Tried to follow the configuration steps but I am not sure if I got it right. Now I gor a new entry in my start menu with ATi logo, but there is no respond whatsoever when I click on it.

    Help me please.... :wall:

  3. Make sure you installed the 64 bit version before using the 64 bit repositories. They won't work too well if you have the 32 bit version of Mandriva installed.

Thanks for the pointer. I got error message saying that the rpm is not valid for my machine or something like that while trying to install 64bits rpm into a 32 bit rpm based machine :woops:

Now busy trying out the 2007 beta 3 that I just downloaded :P

  4. I just bought a new Acer Aspire 5044 laptop without Windoze preinstalled (YEAH!!!! :lol2: ) and managed to installed MDV 2006.0 into it after the usual

    linux noapic nolacpi

and a little tweaking during in stallation to get MDV recognises the 1280 x 800 LCD. Not so much of a problem. Most of the hardware (well, as usual, one would expect problem for the stupid winmoden and the special keys that only works under Windoze box).

I have a MDV 2006.0 DVD which I use to install my other PCs and laptop, all of those are Intel based 32 bit processor.

This new lappy is the first 64 bits processor that I got.

My question is shall I try to use the x86-64 CDsDVD instead of the x86-32 CDs/DVD on this new lappy?

    TIA

  5. Dear all,

I have endless problem in MDK 10.1 with a pendrive and had since "decided" that my pendrive would never work with MDK10.1 for unknown reason until I read this thread. I have recently upgraded to LE2005. Now I can access my pendrive allright, Thanks Mandriva and the borad members here!

However my pendrive is shown as a mounted hdd icon on my desktop. I cannot find anyway to change it to the pendrive icon eventhough such icon is available in LE 2005.

I tried to create a new icon that link to /mnt/removable with the approriate icon but the old hdd icon and links still stay on my desktop and I cannot remove it.

    Thanks

  6. I have upgraded my mdk 9.2 to 10.1 using urpmi, but still stuck with XFree86 because I can't get xorg to work. Need to read more before my next attempt. :P

The rest of the system is pretty much up-to-date in that I have kde 3.3 beta2 (3.2.92) and everything works well except kdesu. For eg most apps that requires root password cannot be lauched by a normal user at all, eg MCC, User Admin, Login Manager etc. Kdesu will not show up to ask for root password at all. I belive that it has something to do with the --ignorebutton switch in the latest kdesu. any idea if this is fixed? I can't find it after much efford to search this forum and elsewhere.

Also I would like to grant certain normal users additional rights to my cup printing system so that they can restart and configure cup printers if it got stuck (which is rather frequent in my case) without having to supply the root password. What should I do?

    Thanks!

  7. The vanilla version that ramfree17 referred to is the 'original version' that you can download from www.OpenOffice.org. It is a compressed file, you need to download and uncompres sit and then run the setup script from a console. See the readme file of OOo in the uncompressed path if you need to install OOo for multiple users (network installation, using the -net switch ). You may search www.OOoForum.org for more discussion.

Please excuse my noobiness is showing!!

Me too a linux newbie despite having used Mandrake for more then 2 years ;)

    Good luck and have fun.

  8. After upgrading my system to 10.0 using urpmi now some of my kde programs just refuse to start. Eg kpdf and any of the component of kdegames.

If I try to launch kpdf the error message will show:-

There was an error loading the module KPDFPart.

    The diagnostics is:

    /usr/lib/kde3/libkpdfpart.so: undefined symbol: _ZN13KToggleAction15setCheckedStateERK8KGuiItem

and if I run any of the kde games, the busy cursor will show up and will last until it is timed out.

    Help me please. :help:

  9. :thanks:

Following the tips that I got from the search, I asearched my /root and found that gtkrc-2.0 is missing. So I copied the corresponding file from one of my user home and added a line:

    gtk-font-name="Bitstream Vera Sans 12"

and most part of MCC now look good.

However the part that says 'Welcome to the Mandrakelinux Control Center' still using the old ugly font. How do I change it?

  10. The whole thing is a really a test for my company to see if a machine running linux can run AutoCad 2002 and open and edit drawings in a timely fashion. I need a stable autocad to run in linux and access a windows network domain.

You mean trying to run AutoCad under Wine or some other emulator?, hmmm interesting. I've tried to open some .dwg files created by AutoCadLT with QCad. This Cad runs under Linux and is included in MDK though not installed by default, not need for emulator.

  11. After upgrading using urpmi from mdk 9.2 to 10.0, and after losing my package manager component in mcc (now got it back, thanks to the qucik help from this forum), I now have another problem: some program, especially those from Gnome desktop, do have very ugly fonts and in particular my mcc which uses font that are so thin and is almost illegibly small. How can I tweak the onts.

Assuming my observation that it has something to do with fonts unde Gnome, how can I tweak it without having to install Gnome? I do not have Gnome installed in my system

    Thanks.

  12. After upgrading my mdk 9.2 to mdk 10.0 using the urpmi tools, I could not find the urpmi gui tools in mcc. Upon finding that I do not have urpmi.setup installed, I then urpme and urpmi again drakeconf but the component is still not there.

What do I need to do to get back the install, package manager, remove and update component found in mcc? I cannot live without it.

    Thanks.

  13. I have similar promblem too. I was having MDK 9.2 and then upgraded using urpmi to MDK 10 and kernel 2.6.3-16mdk and my mouse (generic PS/2 wheel mouse) starts to give trouble. Whenever I move my mouse a bit faster (my bad habit to look for the ouse pointer, I always moves it back and forth to look for it), it then acted strangely, it will launch programmes, open opn documents re-sizing windows etc even without having press any button. Any solution please?

I tried to configure my mouse using mousedrake and it detects my mouse a 'any USB or PS/2 mouse. Changing it to Generic PS/2 Wheel mouse doesn't souve the problem.

Also is there an easy way (like by using urpmi) to roll back to the earlier kernel (2.4.x) as I strongly suspect that it is the kernel that is causing the problem.

    TIA.
