I'm running it on a computer running MDK that is to be used as a server.
I have stopped dm from running on startup so I just have a text based interface.
When I log in as an ordinary user or root it tells me that my password will expire inj 1 day.
I have not changed the password since I set up the computer.

I'm not sure if this is the right place but:
When I log in I get a message saying that my password will expire in 1 day.
I was wondering if this was normal and, if so, how I could change the timeout so that this would never happen.
Thanks

I'm not sure if this is the right place but ...
I was wondering if anyone knew how I could allow an ordinary user to shut down the computer.
At the moment I can only run the init and shutdown commands as root and I do not want to give away the root password to the people who need to be able to shut down the server.
Thanks

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but,
I am setting up a server I am trying to find out how I cam set it up so no gui starts when the computer is booted up.
I would just uninstall everything but I still want to be able to start up the gui for doing certain tasks.
I was wondering if somebody could tell point me in the right direction as to how to do this.

Sorry,
It is just a group of windows 98 and xp machines.
They are currently just sharing two drives on one of the 98 machines and we feel that it could be worthwhile having a dedicated machine for this.

I am looking to set up a linux based file and print server on an entirely windows network.

I do not have a cd-rom drive, only a dvd-rom
I have also md5sum checked my cds and they are fine
Could anyone help me (remembering that I am a complete newbie to linux)?

Yesterday I checked that code and the file is exactly like how it was posted.
It also said when I logged in that my password qould expire in 0 days.
Is there some sort of default timeout on passwords or something?
