    XFree86 4.6.0

As Xorg progressed (?) from 6.7.0 through 6.8.0 and then 6.9.0 it made more older video & editing drivers incompatable as the authors were no longer interested in recompiling in ELF. This leaves a lot of us "hanging" with hardware we can no longer use. By using XFree86 4.6.0 this hardware is still usable.

    XFree86 4.6.0

Is there a Mandriva 2006 rpm available for XFree 4.6.0 and if so, could it be installed over Xorg 6.9.0?
  3. I've managed to get this card working with Xorg 6.7 & 6.8 but have been unable to get it to work with Xorg 6.9. In 6.9 it won't load the bt829 & fi1236 drivers which are needed to load the theatre driver. Does anyone have any ideas as to how 6.9 iniates loading the secondary drivers after it has loaded the drivers listed in xorg.conf?
  4. Because of an apparant inconpatibility, I need to uninstall xorg 6.9.0 and replace it with 6.7 (or 8).0. I'm using Mandriva 2006. Is there an easy way to accomplish this? Thanks
  5. Has anybody been able to make this ATI AIW 128 pro, display T.V. and capture, in Mandriva 2006? This card worked great in MDK 8.0, 9.0 but I've been unable to make it work on any of the newer versions. Installing the ATI.2 drivers doesn't help, /dev/video0 never gets set up. Gatos also gives a person no help! They just say there drivers will work with this card. I'm using the r128 display driver setting. AVview installs but craps out when the initial screen asks to set up its configuration, I believe this is because the the drivers for the card are not installed correctly. I sure would like to hear from anybody that has been able to make this card work in Mandriva 2006. Thanks in advance for any help!
  6. Problem Solved (sadly)! Apparently Mandriva can't cope with this latest ATI chipset and Atheros drivers, I installed SuSE 9.3 without incident and WiFi works fine.
  7. I found the correct kernel modules (SUPPOSEDLY) for the atheros wifi. They are included in the MADWIFI package. There is a How-To at: http://madwifi.sourceforge.net/doku.php?id...&rev=1123852927 These three (3) How-to's all work fine and get the atheros module installed & running on Boot-up and according to "dmesg" all is well & working ----- only one problem, try as I might, I cannot bring up a internet connection using ath0. If anyone has success making wifi work on the Toshiba M45-S165 could you please enlighten me as to how you did it. Likewise any information on how to make the ATI chipset in this laptop would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  8. Hey devries, These latest Toshiba laptops come with what's called ATI RADEON Xpress 200M series Graphics chipset which also includes the Host Bridge, PCI Bridge, PCI controllers, SMBus, IDE Interface, ISA Bridge, Multimedia & USB! None of which work excepting IDE & Display! This possibly explains why, when doing the install, you have to use the "noauto" parameter. The wireless used by the Intel centrino uses the Intel IPW 2200/29i5 network driver using Atheros Communications Ethernet controller. The Intel wireless drivers won't install using MCC. Probably the more important issue here is how to get the ATI chipset to install and function correctly. Thanks for any help you can offer.
  9. Is there a procedure or "How-to" for making WiFi work on the Toshiba M45-S165 Laptop? I have the ieee80211 module loaded and am trying to load the Intel IPW 2200/2915 Network Driver but it won't load. I also have the ethernet0 connection disabled.
  10. Finally got Mandriva installed on this Toshiba M45-S165 (Laptop) but can't come up with a combination that will allow Xorg to come up. Looks like it needs a special driver. I can't even get a vanilla vga screen to come up although it used 1024x800 for the install screens. This dog has ATI Radeon Express 200M Series display adapter. Help, I'm dying on the vine!
  11. Problem solved! Enter: vgalo noauto after hitting F1.
  12. Thanks for the reply devries, That didn't work, possibly because I'm entering it wrong. To get the the graphics to work I need to enter "vgalo". So I'm entering at the prompt -- vgalo noapic acpi=off It still hangs the same way. Any other ideas?
  13. Initial install (from either the Mandrake CD's or the Boot .iso CD) hangs when it gets to the point where it is "Enabling PCMCIA extension cards...". Message is Please wait.... Enabling PCMCIA extension cards.... ! No way to proceed, can only power machine down. Machine is a new Toshiba Satellite M45-S165 Laptop. How can I get around this and proceed with the installaion?
  14. I compared /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts on this machine with the same on another machine that drakroam WORKS on, they are identical. Could you tell me how to completly un-install and re-install just drakroam and its associated files?
  15. Running mcc in a terminal gives the following: "line 0 of configuration file is not parseable" --------- now what? ---------- thanks
  16. The "wireless connection" option in the Mandrake Control Center initally worked on installation, now after installing all the latest upgrades it no longer functions. When you "click"on the wireless connection icon, you get a "loading please wait" message, then the program never comes up and it returns to the Mandrake Control Center screen. Is the a fix for this, or a way of re-installing this option within the Mandrake Control Center? This program when it was installed and working, only "kinda worked" but was useful in its diminished capacity. Additionally, what is th name and location of this "wireless connection" program? Thanks
  17. I guess I wasn't very clear about what it is that I'm trying to do, sorry. I'm trying to get "airfart" working, when I iniate the program it craps out saying "wlanctl_ng is not in you're path". So I've downloaded linux-wlan_ng-0.2.1-pre26.tar.gz to install this pre-requisite for airfart. I can do a ./configure but then the instructions are to do a "make all" and it blows off with the above error during the "make all". I'm using a "Encore 802.11g Wireless" PCI card which is detected and works using the Wireless Connection option that is Mandrakelinux Control Center. I've also tried manually loading (modprobe) the Prism P80211 modules included in 2005 but that doesn't solve the problem either. Any ideas as to what I'm missing?
  18. When compiling (make all) linux-wlan-ng-0.2.1-pre26 it blows off with a : make[3]: Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-2.6.11-6mdk' building modules, stage 2 MODPOST FATAL: parse error in symbol dump file Anybody know how to fix this?
  19. For what its worth, Module.symvers is created for you when you compile wlan_ng. You just need to copy it to /lib/modules/xxxxx/build. Its located in /linux-wlan-ng-0.2.1-pre26/src.
  20. ptune-ui is now fixed. Make sure you've installed the latest Mandrake Updates.
  21. O.K. That makes sense! Thanks for the solution. I'll crank out one of my own.
  22. Thanks for the reply "adamw", I think I'm slowly getting it figured out and will have a solution in the near future. Meanwhile, the network install (after I finally got all my "ducks in a row") works GREAT. You guys got a lot of bugs to fight in this release, but when you've killed them all, you WILL have the best Linux distribution on the market.
  23. It would be nice, if before sounding off, you would understand what you are talking about. Nobody is having problems installing from .iso files. The problem is installing from the complete downloaded tree, using either the boot.iso file or the boot floppy from the distribution. And as "adamw" stated above, and he apparantly represents Mandrake, this should be possible but he didn't know how to accomplish it.
  24. An alternate solution until ptune-ui get fixed: Thanks to mandrakes incorporation of the ivtv module in 2005's kernel and devries how-to (http://mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=24642) Mythtv is now much easier & faster to install, and you can tune channels from within Mythtv. When you close Mythtv the channel you were watching will be the default channel that will be viewed when you open mplayer. Kinda cumbersome, but it works.
  25. Tynan S1564D Tomcat dual Intel 233 mmx processors. Installation installed the SMP kernel as default but won't boot it. Only gives the initial message "bios data check successful" then re-boots. Booting the alternate linux-i586-up-1GB kernel works fine but is of course, very slow. This machine also has Mandrake 9.0 installed in another partition and boots and runs its SMP kernel without problems. Any ideas as to how to make it boot the SMP kernel would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
