  1. I seem to be immune to this. Don't like Ubuntu at all. :P
  2. meh, I'll just have to do it all with Audacity
  3. Can't get it to work :( This is my darkice.cfg file: [general] duration = 0 bufferSecs = 5 [input] device = /dev/dsp sampleRate = 48000 bitsPerSample = 16 channel = 2 [file-x] format = mp3 bitrateMode = vbr bitrate = 128 quality = 0.3 fileName = /home/avatar/net/radio/program_x.mp3 This is my darkice output: [avatar@localhost ~]$ darkice -c /home/avatar/net/radio/darkice.cfg DarkIce 0.17.1 live audio streamer, http://darkice.sourceforge.net Copyright (c) 2000-2006, Tyrell Hungary, http://tyrell.hu Using config file: /home/avatar/net/radio/darkice.cfg Using OSS DSP input device: /dev/dsp Not running as super-user, unable to use POSIX real-time scheduling It is recommended that you run this program as super-user 0 bytes transfered to the encoders [avatar@localhost ~]$ running it as root doesn't help either
  4. I found a prog called DarkIce, it seems I can set it up to encode a Mixxx output to mp3. Yay!
  5. Hi, I got invited to one internet radio project, but I'm totally new to these sorts of things and I need a good audio software with which to prepare internet radio broadcasts. What I need is a software with which I can queue songs, manipulate them (sound level) and with the ability to add input from a mic (dj voice) and that all that is written to an mp3 file which I can then send to the guy who broadcasts that over net. I found a program named Mixxx which seems to suit me except for writing it all to an mp3 or wav file. Maybe, if you know how to do that on that prog, please tell me. Thanks!

  7. Hi, maybe you can help me. :) I'm going to work for a month in another country, so I'll be needing a laptop, alas I've never had one and haven't tried to install Linux on one. Have a budget of about 600 GBP I need a laptop with a 15.4" screen and at least 3h of battery life. Oh and wifi to work too. And it must not be problematic to install and run Linux on one (Mandriva, Fedora, Kanotix, I don't care). I've no problems with editing some start up scripts, but please no kernel recompiles or edits. 15.4 screen, because I want to watch a film now and then and 3h because that's how long two lectures at the university last. Please tell if you have anything suitable in mind! ----- edit: Found something - HP NX7400 - http://ms.lv/?q=UutRzyfnz8xPa2LPr8wPlyfnzB...2LNzuxBeynPz8C=

    Cds to mp3

    Audacious, XMMS, Amarok
  9. I use because it is stable, doesn't need restarting, I can modify it to my needs and I can tell it what to do, not the other way around. And like iphitus I believe in free and open source software.
  10. Same here. :) edit: I uninstalled beagle, I know where my files are even on my 560gb setup. These indexing engines like in Amarok always annoy me, too much load on my box for too little gain.
  11. Yea, me too, and there are many people more pro in Linux here than me, I'm a user, not a geek. :P
  12. Is there any way to enable those wobbly window effects in KDE?
  13. Just installed FC6, checking it out, but too sleepy to make any great sense out of it. :D
  14. I'm waiting for FC6 to mature a bit, say a week or two. Oh, and of course I'm waiting for arctic's review as well. :P
  15. Just dropping a line that nothing has worked for me. I've chosen to wait for FC6 and do a clean install :D Yes, I'm too tired an lazy to continue to try seeking out what I screwed up.
  16. I can't really compare, FC5 is the first RedHat I use. I haven't noticed any lockeddowness any way. Have disabled a few services I don't use and installed Firestarter shorewall GUI, but that's about it. p.s. sorry for offtopic p.p.s. I adore the new look!
  17. It's great! I'm happy that I'm a happy Fedora user. :D It has a bit of a dark feeling, but so have I. I too might actually keep the default background this time around.
  18. That was the first thing I did, but maybe I missed some. I'll try installing mozilla composer
  19. Hi! NVU doesn't work for me any more! I think the problem probably started after I installed SeaMonkey a few days ago. Probably, because I hadn't used NVU for some time now. Alas I need it now. Have you any suggestions? I deleted the SeaMonkey dir in /usr/local, but I think that the install somehow screwed up system links, on where my FC thinks the mozilla dir is located at. Anyway, I'll appreciate any help. Thanks! p.s. I checked Google, but it didn't help much. Maybe I just didn't see what I needed...
  20. ok, thanks, I think I'll use one of the two you have mentioned. :)
  21. Hi! Because of changed circumstances I can no longer live with pop3 only mail and need a good, open source webmail for my shared hosting Linux webserver. First thing's first: I loathe Squirrel mail, It's ugly, uses frames and I don't enjoy the way it does things. I found Illoha Mail ( http://blog.ilohamail.org/ ), and it seems like what I need, but maybe you can advise something other or better. The last Illoha update has been in 2004 and it seems a long time ago. Can you give any feedback about it? I'd appreciate any help in this. Thanks! --- p.s. I haven't been posting much here lately, because my Fedora box just runs great and everything works. But I'll check out the new Mandriva when it comes out. p.p.s. A week or so ago I went to a tech shop to buy a mobile phone for myself and in the shop there were pc's with Mandriva Linux 2006 preinstalled! I felt all warm and fuzzy inside. :D [moved from Everything Linux by spinynorman]
  22. Sounds fairly useless to me. Anyway I don't have an i-pod, so maybe I don't get it.
  23. strange. it appears that if I wait for some time after inserting cd-rw, then k3b won't detect it, but if I click the -erase cd- just after inserting it into the drive, everything happens I think it might be something to do with Fedora doing a crappy auto-mount or something...
  24. What's that support you are talking about? What does a computer audio player have to do with an mp3 player?
  25. Hi, I have no problems burning to cdrw or any other problems, but I always get this output when trying to erase a cdrw. The disk drive is not even flashing the light to show it's being accessed/read, however I can open the cd from Konqueror and it shows all the rw contents with no problems. Have you any advice? Maybe I should install some other rpm of k3b... p.s. I'm using FC5, but thought this was more software than distro related. If wrong, please move this to "other distributions" Thanks!
