Yeah I'm kinda thinking that too. I tried to compile the program, but got some errors. I'll have to figure them out later.

I've installed it just fine. But when I go to run it, the splash screen and sound comes up fine, and I can even access the menu. But after about 30-40 seconds I get this error:
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)
$
/usr/games/../share/games/heretic/musserver: error reading mesg. pipe
Any ideas on what to do to fix? I have an nVidia chipset for my video card, but I'm using the stock driver (been working fine). Maybe switch to nVidia's own driver? Compile from source?
I do have the xHeretic installed and working, but I think I would prefer the glHeretic.
Thanks Much!

Yeah, I used to have an old Iomega Tapedrive. Paralle port. Slower than mollasas in January. Firmware (under Windows was crap too). Finally traded it for a zipdrive.
What I found was it was faster to re-install any software and only back up personal data.
For what it is worth,

Thanks anon!
I was able to go through my services one more time and shut a few more things off that I didn't need!

Yeah, I really like it too. Opera may finally get me to leave Mozilla. The mail client was the one thing I really wanted. Not that KMail and Evolution aren't good, They are. But I like the convince of an intergrated mail.
Three cheers for Opera!

Thanks guys! You'd think that running Windows for just 2 programs (CAD/CAM) it would behave itself

Hi,
Was going to download it and was checking out the readme and it redirected me to this link http://snapshot.opera.com/unix/intel-linux...red-qt.i386.rpm because Java was evidently broken in the earlier release.

Hi,
A quick question. I need to re-install Win98 on a dual boot machine. To repair LiLo after I'm done, I need to boot from my rescue disk and then just run /sbin/lilo right? Or am I not understanding what I'm reading correctly.
Thanks,

Thanks Steve,
Sorry it took so long to reply, but I've not had time to do much this week.
I tried to make a symlink, but that failed also. Every thing I could think of didn't work. So I deleted the mozilla directory and reinstalled it. It failed again. So I re-downloaded it. This time everything works great. I must of had a bad download.
Thanks for your help!!

I've installed Mozilla 1.3 from the tarball just fine. But I can only get it to run as root. I checked the permissions and it shows that it should be exicutable by my users. I've run it from the terminal to get any errors. This is what I got:
/usr/local/mozilla/mozilla-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libmozjs.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
libmozjs.so is there in the mozilla directory so it should be seen. The permissions look right. So what am I missing?
Thanks,

Hi,
It sounds like you have a hardware problem. Possibly a dead cdrom. Try to boot the cd's on another box. If they work there, then try a different cdrom in your machine.

Hi,
Just a curious question. I've just installed Opera V.6.11 to try it out. All went well and it works fine. So I added it to the menu in KDE. Now when I start it up, a terminal opens like I'm starting it from there. Everything loads and works fine.
Was just wondering if this happens to anybody else.

Thanks MottS,
My bad, I forgot to try and manually mount it. I think what confused me was, I created mnt/camera, but when I looked in /mnt there was an entry for /mnt/removable. So I just thought that everything was just fine and mounted already.
Thanks VERY much!!

Hi,
I just purchased a usb mediacard reader for my digital camera. Mandrake (9.0) picks up the device just fine, but I can't get any pictures to download off of it. Even as root. I've tried both Digikam and gPhoto.
I've set the path in digikam to /mnt/camera, purhaps this is not correct? gPhoto dosen't seem to give me an option to setup a usb mass storage device.
This is the line out of my fstab for the cardreader if it helps,
/dev/sda1 /mnt/removable auto user,iocharset=iso8859-1,kudzu,codepage=850,noauto,exec 0 0
Any ideas are welcome.
Thank You Much,

Sorry to hear something broke for you Steamcat. I would bet it maybe Netscape did it. I would try and remove it and java. Then re-install it if you want.
I don't know why, but I've always disliked Netscape and liked Mozilla. I know they are basicly the same. But still, Mozilla is faster and more stable for me. Go figure.
About the sneakyness/treachery thing. I'm getting to be too old to be treacherous anymore, so I have to settle for being just sneaky :D :D :D

Hi,
I don't think Netscape is included with 9.0 anymore. At least I can't find it on my PowerPack either. I think they just went with Mozilla for default.
Steamcat is right, I've seen an rpm for Netscape on Texstar's site.

PS Steamcat, Opera   ! It's the Lizard all the way!!! :) :) LOL!

Hi,
Just downloaded it and un-tarred it. I don't see any make or config files. Just a directory with a data directory, config file for game options, and a readme file that just gives an over view, plus what appears to be an exicutable.
When I try to cd into this directory, bash tells me it doesn't exist. Yet doing ls shows it to me. :?: How can I get this game to run?
Thanks,

Hi,
Just thought I'd say thanks to pmpatrick for fixing my firewall problem! After uninstalling IPtables and re-installing it and Firestarter, I now have good working firewall! :D :D :D
Thanks Much!

Hi,
I have the same problem with 9.0. I've even tried setting up the firewall manually with IPtables. No go. So it must be a problem with IPtables itself. I'm debating on going back to IPchains and Bastille. Would that route still work with 9.0?

Hi,
Just a guess but, if you are using downloaded discs, I'd suspect a bad burn. Otherwise, I'd re-fdisk the drive. And run some close checks on the drive.

Hi,
I have only 128megs of ram and I set my swap to equal it. I tried using more and less, but my boxen didn't much care for it.
I think the "general rule" comes from the days when 64megs of ram was a lot. So you tended to get into the swap a lot more often. But these days with machines having 128megs or more of ram it, it isn't so critical as to the size. Unless you are running a lot of processes. I have even heard of people with vast amounts of ram (say 512 or more) running just fine without a swap.
Just my .02,

Edited for spelling. (Man, I hate "Natural Keyboards")

Hi,
Ok, some more guesses. Perhaps the brand isn't totally compatible with Mandrake. Some people have had trouble with Microsoft mice for example. I use a Logitech optical usb with no trouble. I would try to borrow a different mouse to try and narrow down some possibilities.
Can you check your logs to see what the usb bus is doing? I have an ALi usb hub that is a little bit flaky under windoze, but works great under Mandrake. Unfortunatly, I've noticed that identical hardware sometimes behaves differently on different machines for no good reason that I can see.
Just a few more guesses,

What are some good linux games?

Some good free ones I like are Dopewars, and Crimson-Fields. They aren't too big for a dialup. They might even be on your install CDs.
BzFlag is fun tank like game played on-line. I can play it with my dial-up connection no problem. There are many servers to play on.
