  1. I had to format and reinstall XP today but lilo doesn't start anymore. How do I enable it again ?

    *Mule

It seems that the library is no where to be found. I typed locate ....... and it returned nothing. Where can I get that extremely annoying library and why can't the developers include those libraries in their packages ??? Maybe they want to annoy us, the users.
  3. I don't think it's there. It should be an install log. Something like Install.

Theese mules are a pain in the *** in Linux ! In WinXP eMule does it's job very well but here a f***ing library is missing and I cannot install the Mule. I've tried lMule, xMule and aMule and they all ask for this sh**: libwx_gtk-2.4.so.0. I've searched the Internet, found two possible matches and installed both of them but the Mule still asks for that crap. Can anyone please give me a link to that stupid and annoying library ?
  5. I don't think it can be skipped. I've tried but there isn't any way around. It's just some stupid implementation in the installer. The partition is already ext3 but it wants to format in again. Don't ask me, ask the guy that designed the installer.
  6. Hmm, I dunno why but I get this error after I choose the mount points and click ok to format the partition (it is already ext3 but the installer insists on formating it again): "fsck failed with exit code 8 or signal 0". What does it mean ?
  7. Ok..... I'll take a deep breath as I did before :P and try it. Hope it won't ruin the perfect dual booting I have so far. :D
  8. Modifying lilo.conf doesn't seem hard but how do I prevent MNF from installing lilo again, overwriting my existing one ?

    Can MDK do this ?

streeter pls tell me a distro for routing/bridging.
  10. I have the following OSs installed on my first hard disk (40GB): WinXP & MDK 10. I'd like to install MNF on my network server but first I want to try it out on my PC. So how can I install MNF on my second hard disk (30GB) ? I ask this because it will probably want to install LILO, but in my case LILO is already installed and working.
  11. OK I'll use k3b. Well, arctic, I had 2 problems and I wanted to keep it all in one place rather than creting 2 more threads. What can I say, pmpatrick saved my day. That ACPI problem almost ruined my trust in MDK Linux.
  12. I've been following this thread and got to the point where it says this: "wine: '/root/.wine/wineserver-Alex' must not be accessible by other users". I changed the permissions for group and others to forbidden and now I get this error: "wine: exists lstat socket : No such file or directory"
  13. Kopete doesn't seem to be working with Yahoo!. Everytime I try to login it tells me that my pass is incorrect. I'm definetly sure that the password is good. I have even updated it and still it doesn't work.

    Can MDK do this ?

OK, then what distro do you suggest I should use ? I'm trying to route the traffic between to LANs.
  15. I'm part of a LAN that consists of 14 PCs. More people want to join our LAN (about 6) but due to the no. of computers the need of a Managed Switch arises. A good one is expensive, about 300$ and I cannot afford that, at least yet. Is there a way to use a MDK 10 box with 2 network cards and a normal unmanaged switch to do the job ? Installing upgrades

OK, thx MCC solved the problem
  17. I downloaded some upgrades for various packages in MDK 10 an can't install them because of a vicious circle. When I try to install kdelibs-common-3.2-36.2.100mdk.i586.rpm I get this error: error: Failed dependencies: libkdecore4 = 30000000:3.2-36.2.100mdk is needed by kdelibs-common-3.2-36.2.100mdk When I try to install libkdecore4-3.2-36.2.100mdk.i586.rpm I get this error: error: Failed dependencies: kdelibs-common = 30000000:3.2-36.2.100mdk is needed by libkdecore4-3.2-36.2.100mdk It's a vicious cricle and I cannot install any package this way. What sould I do ? [moved from Installing Mandrake by spinynorman]
  18. OK, I've tried again the script thing and now it seems to be working. edit; Bad news ...... CD 1 & 2 are ok but the other 3's MD5 sum is different from the ISOs'. This is strange because I received errors also when CD1 was used by the installer.
  19. pmpatrick, I was root and and ran it in rawread's directory. bvc, I'm in win too right now but I use a ext2/3 driver to access my Linux partition. I searched for such logs in / and /root but I couldn't find any.
  20. SUCCES !!! The network and Internet both work fine now. THX a million pmpatrick. But now there is one more problem ..... the errors I received during the installation process. Edit; I see that another guy, WannaBeGeek, has had the same problem during installation. In my case 4 packages couldn't be installed. Is there an installation log or something where theese errors were recorded ?
  21. I tried the script but can't get it to work. I get this error: ": bad interpreter: No such file or directory". Now I'll reboot and try your advice.
  22. pmpatrcik, I've already done that, and found no problems ...... The thing is whenever I try to ping somebody I get this error: "Network unreachable". Edit; OK I'll try the script.
  23. OK, I checked the MD5 sums and my ISOs' MD5 sums match the ones I downloaded. But my question is: How can I make sure that the CD is an exact copy of the ISO ? Yes eth0 seems to work, although I get that alert in the toolbar telling me that the network is down...... The Internet gateway computer definetly works, otherwise how would I be talking to you now :D I have Samba Client installed, but I don't think ping need samba ...... I'll try pinging some other LAN computers and post the results......
  24. This is what ifconfig eth0 returned: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0A:E6:DC:B7:66 BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) Interrupt:16 Base address:0xe000 The installer didn't say that the packages were missing but that they couldn't be installed without saying a reason. I'm not sure how well they were burned because I made the stupid mistake of not checking the Verify Data in Nero. I used CDCheck afterwards but it found no errors. Do you know a better tool to check them ? I have the ISOs on my hd so if there is a way to verify the data please tell me.
