  1. I like it. Would you mind giving us a brief rundown how you did it? What software did you use, did you use any special tools or techniques for the MUB bit?

I use photoshop. First I did big fonts using arial black. I moved fonts together. Skewing fonts and editing outlines of fonts.

    example12ud.jpg

    First I did this

Those fonts are actual black. I coloured those using various filters. Also I did couple different layers and using special transparent efects for those layers. So I get it look like more plastic/metallic. So if u disable those filters u get just black and white logo.

    example28zs.jpg

Background is actual photo from mine mainboard. I colored it and finally just take a snapshot of 1x100px slice and skew it.

    example32rz.jpg

    Colored photo from mine mainboard.

    example47kr.jpg

Same picture on two layers. Other picture is just skewed and masked transparency and special layer transparency.

    example50xh.jpg

Just skewed image from mine mainboard.

Those mine pictures is just fast drafts (10-45min). So I hope you point me to the right direction and comment what u like or not.

  2. Very nice, josk. :) Maybe without the sun in the middle of the "u" it would look even better. And how 'bout a blue-tone for the background that is somewhere between the dark blue and cyan? A very "mandriva-like" blue?

Ok, here is without sun. Better? Have to finish some other day.

It is nice but once again I have to wonder if it's tileable. Remember we can't use a fixed width banner.

Yes, it is tileable as rest of my works. Just take 1px width and 100px height image and repeat it.

  3. For everyone who wants my vote: I like the Mandriva star, Mandriva colours and penguins and I don´t like modern. :P

You have it! Here it is. Mandriva star, psychedelic colours and no modern look like penguin at all. So I'll collect your vote!

How about a penguin on a star wearing a magicians hat? :D

How about tux with Mandy2005LE star eyes and some flavor from pacman and supermario?

  4. I hadn't noticed the windows logo! :lol2:

I was commenting on the fact that your background is from yetisports - I wondered if there was an issue there...

I have allready edited that yetisports look a like background. I think just editing that flying penguin and there is nothing from original.

  5. These pictures may take some time to load*. Here is my very fast look'n'feel. If you like that I will polish it more.

Background could be scaleable. Just clone one 1 x 100 px image slice.

Community powder that shoots much further

Is that new slogan ok? Could it be something else? Hmmm... community powder that shoots user much further

  8. Hmmm... switching the distro..... Im thinking about that too....

    What I like to see:

Fast boot time (My opinion is that suse and ubuntu are too slow)

Good control panel (2 points to ark-linux | 1 point to suse | 0 to ubuntu)

    Half year release cycle

Packet manager (large collection, easy to use | somehow I dont like Suse's yast)

    X86_64 and X86_586 versions

I think this is hard decision to make. Somehow I dont like Suse at all and its quite heavy. Ark-linux sounds very interesting but Im lookin for something more popular. And at the moment it lacks x86_64 version. Fedora have been always too buggy for me. Recent version of Ubuntu have some problems with my rare hardware (sata1/2, x86_64 x2 smp) and I thats why I cannot even install it.

I havent tried Mepis, Kanotix... distros like that.

Could someone name any distro that have fast boot time, KDE is default WM, it contaisn good packet manager and its very updated (most recent versions of kernel...)?

  9. I have similar problem. When my mandriva have been several days up and running I cannot burn DVD's. I got some error. Then I just restart CPU and everything works just ok. This is strange but I can live with that. If I remember correctly that error: Power calibration error.... or something like that, cant really remember.

  10. I installed interactive firewall:

    http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/view/Main...ractiveFirewall

I disabled all ports except SSH. I port scanned my computer from mine other computer like this way:

    nmap 84.xxx.xxx.xxx -p 10-1100 -P0

and I get nice warning message. Then I tried to scan just one port using firefox and I dont get any intrusion message. I just try this way:

http://84.xxx.xxx.xxx:100 and many other ports. Why I dont get any intrusion messages?

  11. I just get my Mandriva 2006 X86_64 powerpack DVD. I installed all progs like firefox and "FlashPlayer-7.0-1mdk". I know that I cannot install flashplayer from Macromedia's site without getting annoying error: There is no support for X86_64 os. Why this packet is included with Mandriva 2006 X86_64 if it doesn't work? Or should it work but Im just too dork to get it work?
