  1. About ARTSD: yeah, there is only said: i should turn network-transparency ON

    anybody find a way to have a remote sound server working?

    i've got a hp nx6110 laptop with very poor sound card. i would like to make my own server with sound blaster live in it to make the sound work over the network. an external sound card is the best way, i know, but it would cost some money. i've got few pc-parts bouncing around and a sb live card :)

    have you succeed with anything?

  2. i have installed the mandriva linux 2006 beta3 - the i915 is selected and the card seems to work, but... opengl doesn't display any picture while in 3d mode (only cursor). ill look at it later - i've just finished setting software up. maybe it's just about some rpm to be installed.

    the kaffeine problem seems to be away, and the motion picture display have been improved compering to the vesa driver.

    almoust happy :)

  3. i tried the google way on this few times since i got my nx6110, but everything about this problem i have found on the net is "it doesn't work" or "vesa does work"

    (i said that in my prev. post - please, read carefully)

    i've been using the vesa driver on my laptop for 3.5 months - but it gets sometimes very (...) hard to use it this way.

    // (...) = uncomfortable ;)

    and this problem of mine is regarding a hp compaq nx6110 laptop, not any other desktop or notebook. i know the 915 driver does work, but it does not work the the nx6110

    i've just got the mdv06b2 downloaded - i will try it, i'll post my results here

  4. not even a bit close - this is flustrating.

    i was told by one of the mandriva users that it is because mdv team patch kernel too much.

    every thing about this problem i found on the net is "it doesn't work" or "vesa does work", but let's be serious - vesa is no good! my laptop came with winxphe, so i can see what this card can do. for me it's something about radeon 9200. for a business laptop is quite good result.

    please, please help

    mikel

  5. I've got a HP Compaq NX6110 laptop. It has an Intel 915 chipset inside.

    I can't get the graphic card working - I use the vesa driver. But there is no 3D at all and there are lots of problems with playing movies. Problems like: picture is too slow and sometimes player hangs (kaffeine).

    I tried the i815 module, I heard it is compatible in some ways. It's not working.

    I have updated the ldetect package. In one of the newer versions that this on the Mandriva 2005LE sources it has been updated to detect my card - still "no go".

    EDIT:

    Forgot to copy the error message:

    (EE) Failed to load module "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.a" (once-only module, 136033803)

    (WW) I810: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0:2:1) found

    If there are other messages needed please tell me so.

    Please help

    MikeL

  6. isn't that because the KDE Souns System is aRTs?

    my guess its this way: SoundCard is used by the ALSA Service, ALSA Service is used by aRTs, and so if you would like to play in this configuration something you would have to use aRTs playback module

    your setup is working (TEST -> ok), so you have to use the aRTs output source

    (i.e. XMMS: xmms-arts(...).rpm installed and set as the output plugin)

    thats one way (setting all apps to use aRTs)

    the second ways is to turn the aRTs off and leave the ALSA to deal with the sound (all apps set to ALSA)

    and third way: 1st + 2nd = 3rd :)

    set at the KDE Sound System to disable the system after n-seconds when the system is idle

    this way you will have the aRTs and ALSA to use (NOT AT ONCE, only one or other)

    hope it helped

  7. in mandrake 10.1 there is udev which makes it all work just fine, in 10.0 the /mnt/removable dir did not disapear, now it does, so when connecting devices like pendrives or digitalcameras you will get in kde device icon on the desktop (already mounted) and after disconnecting the system will clean it up (unmount, remove the /mnt dir and the desktop icon will disapear)

    my guess is you can disconnect you pendrive safely when all read/write operations are finished, i do that and only sometimes when i do it too soon (not all is written on the device) i have clean-format it, that is way the safe-remove (win) and unmount (linux) should be done before you pull the plug

  8. from my experience those worked just fine (some tried with mdk10 some mdk10.1, via network or connected direct):

    hp845, hp3820

    canon s200x

    hp1000, hp1100, hp1010

    brother 1030,1230,1240

    i dont have any experience with the newest models, you can try the MandrakeMove at someone who has this model you would like to buy

    there is a graphical tools to set up a printer in mandrake - kups (just fool it you want to set a printer), my guess is if you find your printer there you could say that it is possible that it will work with your mandrake just fine

    before buying a all-in-one device check first if all of the devices included will work - i would try the mandrakemove thing first

  9. using the how-to from the forum i've updated my ATI drivers (downloaded from ati.com)

    after driver update there are strange dots and lines on my screen

    when in 2d mode (i.e. desktop) the noise is rare but it gets uncomfortable, when there is lots of dark colours on the screen noise gets more frequent

    this "screen noise" is worse when using the 3d graphics, like glxgears. esspecialy when launching the fgl_glxgears, the noise is getting something like this 3d generated box but few inches to the right

    anyone know where to find the cure?

    thanks

    MikeL

    MDK10.1Official, X.org, ATI driver: fglrx-4.3.0-3.14.6.i386.rpm

    ATI Radeon 9000 DDR, iCel1.8G, intel845

  10. OK... no wonder nobody have ansered my question - it was so easy to do, that everyone was thinking i was joking :)

    begin
       button = enter
       mode = themode1
    end
    begin
       button = space
       mode = themode2
    end

    begin themode1
     begin
       button = 1
     end
    end themode1

    begin themode2
     begin
       button = 2
     end
    end themode2

    that's all, presets done

    i feel so stupid - why was there no one to help me ...

  11. My fstab entry on CD-RW (cdrom) and CD-ROM (cdrom2):

    /dev/hda /mnt/cdrom auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-2,codepage=852,noauto,ro,exec 0 0
    /dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom2 auto umask=0,user,codepage=852,iocharset=iso8859-2,noauto,ro,exec 0 0

    i get sometimes trouble getting the next cd mounted (when switch them one to other), but it usually is my fault - i take the first one out before i close all programs using its mount

    when this happends i just do as root this line:

    umount /mnt/cdrom; mount /mnt/cdrom

    all the config data for the mounting operation are in the fstab so i give no more swithech to the mount command

    :) i hope i helped :)

  12. thanx for the tip :)

    i've seen some screenshots of the freevo project its the second thing im going to be on right after i finish my GeeXBoX-made-player. if freevo would work i would just had to change the software on my player

    this thing with presets in lircrc im going to use on my Mandrake in my room, not a multimedia-box

    in the living room

    i had it worked out some time ago with girder and it did very well for me... i miss it ;)

  13. I've got simple and comfortable remote with only few buttons but i would like to use them in lots of ways. Long time ago I did use the GIRDER software where I had 5 buttons to change between winamp, movie player, tv-software, dvd player, mouse, audio mixer and power options groups of buttons. that way i had same buttons work under different software

    i can't get it working in the lircrc config file

    can u tell me, please, how to do it, show where to find more precise lircrc info or maybe you know a linux software to make lirc work like girder does?

    :thanks:

    PS:

    I read somewhere in some forum that the MDK LIRC rpm (0.6.6.-6mdk) doesn't want to work and this someone left it and compile it from source - good work, but the RPM does work ;)

    simple howto make lirc work under MDK is here:

    http://www.mandrake.tips.4.free.fr/lirc.html

    (i had use lirc-0.6.6-7mdk, the one in the MDK10 is 6mdk) :thumbs:

  14. please dont kill me with your lought.... :wall:

    at the mixer there is a setting called SB Live Digital Out

    in some mixers it is not shown - try the alsamixer make it [OFF]

    it worked in one of my cases, some time ago i had some other problems

    still dont know what are the EMU10k1 slider - you know?

  15. i had to place my sbl! in some other pci

    (i did one boot with out it, it was removed from mdks' config and then mdk had to reconfigure live card when it got back in)

    before i did that i had front/rear/center/sub channels working, slider did change volumes for all the channels

    now its all messed up - all the sound goes to the center, few to the front, i hear cracking sounds, before the config change i didnt hear them

    what's wrong? do i really have to reinstall my mdk10? is there any sbl! dedicated software? (something like Creative Mixer - all in one user friendly box)

    can anybody tell me what are those routing slider for in the alsa mixer??

    i only could find some info in like - this are routing sliders - dont change them

  16. i had same problem and few others....

    try setting other sliders proper - there are 2 sets of sliders for the 5.1 setup and few config ones at the right end of the mixer (at my mdk10+alsa they are on the right ;) )

    one is for the PCM sound, the other is for something else (just a guess: the built in DolbyDigital h/w decoder)

    after i launched all speakers i had problems with getting the channels sound like they supposed

    when i changed volume, front balance changed, same thing happend when i changed the centeral and sub channel vol.

    what i noticed is that there are few configuration sliders i couldnt get what they do

    try the 2 last sliders - one turns on/off the 4-channel surround - my guess to get it work with 5.1 it should be off

    2nd is for phase inversion filter, its for the dolby surrond rear effect (not needed when 4.x and 5.x setup - must be off

    now i've got a Monster Sound MX300 sound card working on 2.0 setup, but i still have the SBL!5.1 and will get it back inside my PC as soon as i collect some info on setting it up with alsa :D if you find some good tools/soft to get SBL!5.1 work at MDK like it is working on (bad word, starting with W, 7-letters)

  17. thanks for the help !

    i've got it running thanks to you

    the thing was with the busid, just like you said i wrote the pci:1:0:0 for the nv section (it does stand for agp) and first s3 card got working - still no picture on the second one

    the second s3 card had a wrong busid set to pci:0:11:0 as it was in the harddrake tool, but in the XF86Config it should be 0:17:0 (hex/decimal translation) i saw it in the log :D

    now all it is left to do is to change the resolutions and refresh rates - i hope it doesn't have to be the same on all monitors? it does 800x600@56 on all (with no additional config in this point of time)

    ive got one 17" which goes 1152x768@85, and two 14" - only 800x600@75 (1024 is very ugly on 14")
