  1. I'm trying to get my graphic card (Radeon Mobility 9600 Pro) working under Mandrake 10. Everything in 2D is fine, but any 3D I get a frame rate of 2-20 (thats just for glxgears!) I've tried downloading the drivers, but they are all for desktops. I can't find any drivers for a mobility card. I'd really like to play games under Linux, but I'm currently foced to do it with Windows. Any ideas of how to get this working? TuxRacer gives me 2 FPS.
  2. Really? Great! Will have to check that out. Never knew that.
  3. I had this happen to me when I installed some RPM... made my whole computer slow down. Try re-installing Mandrake.
  4. I'm in the need of some software that is just a basic file editor, but has the little web-editting features such as auto-tab, syntax highlighting, etc. Someone suggest BlueFish, but that seemed to create all you files into a site file, and did some weird stuff. Anyone have other suggestions? Also, I'll need just a simple FTP client. ...one that can communicate with Windows. Thanks!!!
  5. I'm trying to enable my batter monitor on my laptop. I found the correct setting, but it just says "There is no ACPI (or something like it) installed". What do I need to do to get the batter monitor working? Its painful when I'm working and suddenly everything is filled with darkness.
  6. I completely cleared my hard drive of anything and everything. 55GB of free space. I have XP and Mandrake installed again, and I don't notice anything with my hard drive going crazy. Perhaps my install went wrong. Edit - Oh, I also wanted to know if Mandrake will power down my BIOS sends the signal of an overheat. If that happens, I wont feel so worried of leaving it on for 3 hours straight when I'm away.
  7. Ah ok. Will do that next time. I didn't want it to run to long, so I just jotted down something. I'm re-installing Mandrake right now, so that might do something. (I decided I wanted a dual boot between XP and Linux)

I never used the community one, and went straight to the official. So it may be different: Download the ISO images from the website... I got mine through BitTorrent which gave me 500kbps Then burn them to a CD as an image. Not a bootable disk, but an image. I used Nero to do that. I don't think the WindowsXP burner can make images. Then, pop your CD into your drive and power down. Start up and it should show you an install screen. Everything is pretty easy from there.
  9. I started a simple application called "Crash Attack" which is a little addicting game. After I closed the application (after 3-4 minutes) it started. Here's the top four. 2440 root 2666 root 1144 root 3876 carl (thats me) When powering down, I got the messages again. I started to feel all around my CPU for hot spots and I could find nothing. This happened when I left the CPU turn off for 12 hours, then turned it on for 10 minutes and then shut down. How can my computer get that hot in 10 minutes? Should I start using my computer in the artic now.

I just switched to Mandrake 10 OE two weeks ago from XP. Doing the Mandrake install was extremely easy. Much easier and user friendly than the XP install. I was worried about partitioning my hard drive and considering buying Partition Magic, but then decided not to. The Mandrake partitionier was amazing! I can't tell you how worried I was to get that set up. Then booting up Mandrake for the first time wasn't that hard. I had a hard time figuring out the difference between "Configure your Desktop" and "Configure your Computer" but thats me. Keep in mind though, its still only Linux. I really miss the instant "Plug n Play" that Windows had. I'm currently trying to configure my wireless network card and get my graphic card to function correctly (Radeon Mobility 9600 Pro) I think there's a program called "KWrite" that does image burning. If that doesn't, theres like 4 others to choose from.
  11. Sorry... I have no idea what you just said? :) What's a DMA? Now that I think of it, this might of only happened when my zip drive was plugged in. I'll have to test it out.
  12. I doubt its the fan or heat sink as the computer is only 4 months old. This never happens in Window's either and I forgot to mention my LCD which is described in my manual "The computer is accessing your hard drive." comes on and stays on. I'm now thinking it might be a run away process in a loop, but why would that cause it to alert me of an overheat? BTW, its a laptop.. so checking these fans and everythings will be a full days work. Thanks for the reply.
  13. I've noticed Mandrake 10 OE will start to access my harddrive exessively every so often. When I shut down/reboot I get some messages: CPU#0 - Tempature above threshold. CPU#1 - Tempature above threshold. CPU#0 - Running in modulated clock mode. CPU#1 - Running in modulated clock mode. And that repeats. The longer I let it run, the longer those messages scroll. Is this a serious problem? I don't want my processor to fry.
  14. Hi Everbody, I just started using Linux about a week ago, but I'm in the need of some help. I've been searching on these forums for a solution to my answer, but I have been unable to find it. I might have a unique problem. Basically, after I got Mandrake 10 installed, I tried to set up my USB wireless adapter. I learned that there wasn't drivers for my model yet, so I want to use my WPC11 card for the time being. I can't get anywhere setting this up, I've probably tried 50 different solutions. My thought is that it isn't finding the card, because I have an intergrated wireless a+b+g card that doesn't work with our router. I've gone into the hardware section of my control panel, and found ethernet, and theres 2 cards listed in there, even with nothing plugged in. The first one is my intergrated one, the second one is a AR[numbers here] Adapter. What can I do to get this working? Thanks.
