  1. Don't get me wrong, I"ve got a 40g in this box and another 40 in the server and I would like to increase the size of that one, if I had the spare cash.

But with these monster drives I have to wonder how many people are just installing the OS on one big arse partition and not breaking it down into smaller more logical partitions.

  2. IRC...IRC...IRC

Too much hassle usually to get things off of IRC. You connect to a fserve, wait in line for way too long then either the server shuts off, you get disconnected, or theres nothing but junk on a ratio fserve.

It's much easier I find using apps like Limewire.

  3. I guess another ? is how secure are these utilitie sice they allow other user to eatablish a direct connection with your system.

Yes I am new to this whole share files online thing so please pardon dumb ?

    ump

Limewire or Lopster are the ones I've had the best success with. You can set them to share only one directory and its not possible for them to change out of that. But as tyme said any outside connection especially one such as this can be a security risk.

  4. Thanks to this far. But my server does not have X or any browser, so I have to test it from my LM 8.1. Or perhaps if I install Lynx hmmm.. . I see java appletts & frames. Sygate looks good. But I think that Web based checks do not have so many exploit checks than real progs. Perhaps I found some easy install rpms. BUT, THANKS!

Well if you're running it correctly your server is behind a firewall in a dmz so just point another machine to the address and scan away? Or better yet if possible fire up another nix box outside of your firewall and do it yourself?

  5. Oh, well, notify BioWare then and tell them that we don't need a port.

Thank you Wine. You saved the day again. Thought we were gonna have to have a real Linux program this time, but no, you come through again with your magnificent emulation of the Windows operating system. Hooray.

Am I seeing a hint of bitterness and sarcasm today there DOlson? :)

  6. Yes you can Ronin. I don't know if you know about VNC but you can use it with ssh. VNC is the equivalent to PCanywhere in windows. However it is of course open source AND cross-platform :D .. lucky us !/quote]

Not VNC Motts but thanks anyhow, I use SMS at work and when I ran WIndows at home PCanywhere to connect to machines.. It was Glitzs suggestion to open a ssh session then run a gui application that I was asking about. On my linux box it opened the that I typed the command to launch.

  7. If you really want to get blown away, try logging on through ssh and then run a graphical application...

    Glitz.

eeep now thats something I didn't expect to happen. Does it do that if I ssh from a windows box also? Now theres something I"m just going to HAVE to try Monday from work.

  8. Why? That is a good question. 2 reasons. Because the --noclean swith does not work and i have dial up. I like to keep those rpms after i install them so i do not have to get them again if i need to. Also i have dsl at work so i can just download them there, then bring home and have all those apps without having to wait hours and hours.

Yep being on dialup at home not only sucks but is an excellent reason to put them on cd. I believe the command would be something like urpmi.addmedia tex then path to the cd?

  9. What if i download every file in texstars folder for urpmi and burn them on a cd. Could i then add that cd i made to urpmi?

Yes it would work and then add it to your sources but I have to ask why would you want to do such a thing? Just add texstars site as a urpmi source.

  10. Didn't it prompt you to accept a key or anything the first time you logged in?

    I think it should have...

But yes, once you have accepted that key from your machine, its pretty much telnet with encryption!

Yes it should have prompted him for a key. And as I scroll down I see that's hes allready responded too. heh Is it beer o'clock yet?
