  1. How long does it take you to accumulate that kind of unit Paul? It makes me envious with me just about 50 right now :)

Doesn't really take to long DragonMage. My oc'd to 1g T-Bird can do 3 a day. And if Paul is like the rest of us he's running it on more then one box also so they add up quickly.

  2. This is just not good. I've been to lazy to play games on linux as I"m still stumbeling around in the dark on it. And there someone ;) has to go and show step by step directions on how to install it. Well there goes all my free time and reason for learning more about linux. It's time to waste me some badguys. BWAHAHAHA

  3. I'm utterly shocked you didn't quite get a RTFM!!

I have yet to see anyone type RTFM on this board since it started, guess we are more friendly here

I was about to say something similar Anon. We do seem to have a high patience level. Which is a good thing in case anyones wonderng. :)

  4. right, so what I don't need is a software router, as I already did that and someone didn't like it.

Not that this can help but they're all software routers if you think about it. :)

The 2 we were discussing, that you can't use due to the puxxeling distrust by someone of our favorite OS, use a dedicated computer and the software is a modified linux OS>

  5. Although' date=' if you are thinking of using Linux, then I would suggest using smoothwall gpl - http://www.smoothwall.org/

I have not had the time to install it yet, but everything I have read states that it is one of the best firewall, routers out there. (cue the disagreement :) )

  I'll be the first to disagree. While SW is a good product the people behind it are, to say the least, lacking in people skills. Should you ever ask a question be prepared to be insulted, called names and general abuse.

I prefer a fork from them called IPCop. Same idea better product and much nicer people involved in it. :)

  6. I did a little looking on google and it seems that you are right - scp will copy files between computers using ssh. However, this is not a simple process and involves creating enryption keys and the such. From a cursory look, it is an involved process for each and every file that needs to be transfered.

The easiest ways of transfering files is using sftp. Setting up a server would at least only be an involved process once.

    Cooool, I'm not a N00bie anymore.

Keys?? We don't need no stinking keys.. Ok seriously when I scp from this box to another the only keys created were the ssh ones which happened automatically. Once that was done it was a simple matter of scp file and where. Much easier then setting up an ftp

  7. btw this thread has a really bad topic, in fact, a lot of the security ones have lately.  might wanna work on that.

You noticed that also? We seem to have gone from "How do I secure..." to "How can I strike back and be as bad as...: Human nature I guess, unfortinuatly.

  8. It's gkrellm airse . If it wasn't installed by default its on the cds, or you can get it from rpmfind.net or also directly from the authors website. Along with a ton of plugins and themes I might ass.

oops sorry I misspelled your nick.

  9. Having a blond moment here. What if I don't have an autostart.sh execpt in .kde/Autostart and I tried that one and it doesn't cross over to Fluxbox. I tired creating my own .autostart.sh and also /Autostart/..autostart.sh in /.fluxbox with no luck. I also don't seem to have an .xinit or .xsession where I also read to try adding the commands to autostart apps and kill the powersave options?

Like I said I'm having a blond moment so be nice.

What you want to do is stealth all your ports (make it so that they do not send out replies to requests). That way, no one will even know you are there.

    Glitz.

Or at the least, opening someone else's computer to be scanned and hacked.

I`m not that guy to snopping around private stuff,I`m a nice guy not a bad guy I know Iknow

A properly configured firewall and a secure system is the way to go. If nothing exists for the hackers, they will leave and go away. And your system will be safe.

Yaaaah that what I`m looking for.  :D  :D  :)

    Mandrake-user

Ok now I'm confused (not that hard to do I know) Do you mean you're looking to be as bad as the cracker/hacker? Or do you mean you're looking to make your system very secure?

  11. What you want to do is stealth all your ports (make it so that they do not send out replies to requests).  That way, no one will even know you are there.

    Glitz.

Yep, and the extra "addon" Mandrake-user is looking for would not only defeat the purpose of a firewall but just incite the probe to a more serious level.

  12. Ronin

But wouldn't that make you just as bad as them?

    No

Because I like them to look some where else, not to an innoncence man like me. :D  :D  :D  :D

Then all you need to do is run a properly secured system and a good firewall etc.

All you'll be doing by responding is running the risk of ticking them off and the probe can turn into a concentrated attack causing damage etc..

  13. I`m talking about the crackers here.

I hope not, although I dimly recall that there are one or two. But wouldn't that make you just as bad as them? In any case responding to probes/scans attempts just confirms your existance doesn't it, which would defeat the purpose of a firewall etc.

If I understand you correctly. It's late in the day and I've had more then my fair share of winny users so I'm not running at full speed.
