  1. Hi there, I ran rkhunter on my comp and it came back with a "bad" status on my /usr/bin/top command. I have run rkhunter before, though admittedly not as often as I should. I have never used that command until today when i was checking to see if the command worked, which it does. What does the "bad" staus mean? How can I fix it? How did it occur, so that I can prevent it from occurring again? TIA Vicki :o
  2. I am currently installing mondo to try as a backup/ restore system. I am tweaking my system a lot and I know I'm going to need it. I have a friend that swears by it. Edited to add and it's free. :)

I have looked at this link and it doesn't show that lib as required. So I did a google search and found that others were having the same problem This thread might have the answer for you. Good luck.

    Firefox Install Help

I installed FireFox too, as I have been meaning to for awhile and it installed in my home directory and popped up and I'm typing on it now. How do you get an entry into the menu to click on it?

    Firefox Install Help

The install process usually puts a program in the /usr/bin directory. Open a terminal and type: whereis <programname> (in this case Firefox or firefox as Linux is case sensitive) If it just returns the name then it hasn't been installed. The apostophies I can't help you with.
  8. The people that I know are certified in both M$ and Linux (OK well it's just one guy) since you probably won't get to work in a Linux only environment. I just want to see if I can learn enough to pass the Linux+. Might not be as difficult since they are changing it in the 4th quarter to deemphazie the hardware aspects. I don't know a coaxial cable from a fiber optic cable but I'm pretty strong in the software dept. They are also including security which will be fun. Should be an interesting journey. :D
  9. I have been look at the objectives for the Linux+ exam, which I would like to try for by the end of the year . It definitely looks like it covers all the basics. Certainly a M$ cert would make more money but I ain't in it for the money.
  10. Who here is linux certified?
  11. Scince I have been using Mandrake I have had viruses in all of my email accounts but because Linux doesn't open .exe files it has been one less thing for me to worry about. I know that virri can get into Linux but it would have to one of our own to do that.
  12. I am using Mandrake 9.2 and the only bug that I encountered was with Menudrake not updating the menu, but it was fixed with an update shortly after I installed it in Dec 2003. My main problems were with hardware issues. I have resolved all except the camera issue. I also dual boot with Windows XP, that uses the incrediably buggy IE that has to send error reports every few minutes, and some sort of script errors that I have to click through and it's so much slower than linux. I almost never use XP anymore, thank god for choices. :)
  13. I'm a fan of using Kate, it has the highlights for C++ and other languages too as well as a terminal that you can debug and compile the program using g++.
  14. This link was given to me by a friend, I haven't tried it yet, but he swears by it.
  15. Hi You might try this link which talks about journaling. :D
