I recently re-installed Mandriva 2007, on my previous installation I had Streamtuner working fine
Yes, it could be your problem. It appears that you have possibly mixed up 2007 and 2007.1 repos?I do have libtaglib0-1.4-2mdv2007.1.i586 installed, could this be the problem? -
Or as ianw1974 has already asked “Do an lspci from the laptop”
In terminal do
lspci
and post your card info here. Maybe we can get WPA to work?

it is safe to delete the locales which I don't need from /usr/share/locale/ there a lot of them and they take up 234MB
[greg@halfway share]$ du -sh locale 41M locale
for en only
I'm sorry, Rama. We seem to be taking over your thread. Let us know if you have any problems?

Does anyone have a way of getting my Nvidia Geforce 6800LE card working with 3D desktop?
Welcome to the MUB!
Have you installed your graphic card drivers yet? In terminal do:
lsmod |grep nvidia
If you haven't, please read this thread about software installation.
Follow the instructions listed there and set up easyurpmi, making sure you have the PLF-free and PLF-nonfree repos.
Then in a terminal as root do:
urpmi dkms-nvidia
this will install the driver and any depends you need.
Then you can set up your 3D desktop effects.

nasty bugger, nod32 didnt even recognise it
If you are still concerned about it, just install and run Clamav (or Klamav) from the repos.

I wanted to use the x264 codec to encode some DV-video I've shoot with my camera. Mencoder that is installable through the RPM manager doesn't seem to have been compiled with this option.
Have you tried the mencoder, x264, and all the libx264s from the PLF repos?

Are these the spring cds?

Based on what I have just read on that site, yes.

That card (like many others) has used many different chipsets. You must check for the hardware revision in the model number. Please read: seattlewireless.net/DlinkDwl520
The hardware revision code will be one of these; A, B, C, D, or E. This will determine what driver to use.

When I tried to install from Mandriva Free DVD, it found the Red Hat install, and asked me whether I wanted to upgrade the RedHat install to Mandriva or to erase it and install Mandriva fresh from scratch. I chose the "upgrade" option.
I think that this would have been a good place to choose 'erase it and install Mandriva'. You can update a Mandriva system, but not a RedHat system to Mandriva without problems.
At this point I would suggest formating the drive and doing a clean install.

i tried the ubuntu alternate version (its not a live cd, just a text installer) and burned it at 32x and it was installing but it said a few files on the cd were corrupt, I may try to burn it at a slower rate and see what happens
Try burning at 2x or 4x, and give Xubuntu a try... it works very well with 192MB of RAM.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what it is you want to do. If you just need to find, and save or play an .flv file, you can install UnPlug.
Then play it with mplayer or vlc.

Are you sure you have installed the same kernel source as the kernel you're using? I only ask because this is the most frequent cause of the 'Invalid module format' error
-
Try
modprobe lmpcm_usb
-
I've never used a serial modem with Debian (however it would be the same as Mandriva except for the gui), but with Mandriva (or Debian) you do not need any special drivers.
For Mandriva, simply power up the modem first, then boot up your system, open your Mandriva Control Center > Network and internet > set up a new network interface > modem connection > manual, and select either:
/dev/ttyS0
if that doesn't work, select
/dev/ttyS1
for your Com1, unless you have another serial device attached.

Have you installed the kernel source for your kernel?
-
I don't think anyone but you can answer that. Do you feel confident that if it doesn't work, that you can compile a custom kernel and modules to make it work (this is not an easy task with Mandriva)? If you don't feel that you can... then I would suggest you try for something else that is compatible.
I have not searched for Linux support for this mb, so I'm relying on your info for my statement. :)

The easiest way is to install KeyTouch.
It may be in the Mandriva repos, my Mandriva box is down so I can't check for you.
If it's not in the repos, there is an rpm on that site for Mandriva.

We should rename this section 'Art, Design, and Beer'
Now I'm not sure if I want a Tui, or a visit to the brewery? :D

I have already set up my wireless device using urpmi. No need of the ieee80211 subsystem. Thanks for all the help.
Congrats! I'm glad you have it working!
Sorry if I seemed a bit pushy, but you were trying to make it more difficult then it was. :D

i wasted all my evening to install scribus
Just to clarify a bit, you spent less the a minute installing scribus. :)
You spent the evening setting up your development environment, which you would also have had to do using another OS (such as Windows), then compiling your application from source code (if that application version was not yet available for that OS).
I should also note here, that if you had read and followed the requirements and instructions on both the scribus web site and or the instructions in the tarball, it would not have taken so much of your time.
For the record, now that you have your dev-environment set up, it will not take so long to compile from source again.
I hope that you understand that this is an explanation, and not meant to be a sarcastic statement. :)
@admin, I suppose that this can be marked as solved.

I'm trying to install the driver for my wireless device (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG).
Have you set up urpmi and followed these instructions?

sh filename.run
will save you having to chmod the file first in order to get it to run :)
Good point... and you wouldn't confuse a new user with the chmod command. :)

i try to install qt-devel but it tells me taht :
It's libqt3 and libqt3-devel, use your gui software management to find them. You will also need libxml2 and libxml2-devel.
Here are all the requirements.

You should have done
before you added/changed to the correct repos.
If you haven't installed too many things, you may be able to correct it... I'm not sure?
