I had rr for about 2 years. When the installer comes to your house be sure to tell him/her you want ethernet not usb. They have modems that are usb only now, so that is important. If usb works at all, which I doubt, you will have no trouble at all with ethernet. You also do not need to install any aditional software crap they offer for windows, if you have windows. So if you don't want it tell the installer. Also, if you have win, don't expect the installer to know how to get it working I ended up having to show my installer how on win2k

yup, I remember Gowator
Don't livecd's have F1 Help feature that tells you how to specify video, acpi etc...?
-
Also need to rename .gnome2 and maybe others like .gconf and .gconfd, but they usually are not necessary.
Oh, and evo can be an issue so maybe rename .evolution for kicks.

umm...then why ubuntu? or any linux for that matter? none are for beginners want windows?...install it ;) You can't argue about it

- debian is its own animal. IMO ubuntu is a little less for beginners than fedora but then some beginners start with slack so that just depends on what you wanna know and learn. Once I learned debian I loved it.
-It uses the Gnome System Tools
-arctic said it well. You could also go with hoary to avoid the recent slowdown, if you do not have to have gnome2.12

I don't know if there's any info worth reading in them but there's been some threads about it on the ubuntu forum.
Oh, and this might interest you.

I said 'Distro Neutral' ...but I think it's nice that people love their distro enough to make something for it.
It's hard for me to speak about mdv because it is kde-centric and I very rarely go to kde-look. There's not much in the way of gnome stuff for mdv though and I think that is expected.
I don't belong to the Club and never have, so I could be wrong, but there doesn't seem to be much interest in art for mdv eiher. Maybe because of the overused default colors? I think that is a big turnoff!
Regarding the lack of quality, I could agree and disagree, because it depends on exactly what you mean. Is it the api? quality of artists? bad designs? bad coding by the artist? all of the above? To just say the quality stinks, doesn't say anything. I think the quality, overall of windows coding is bad. The api is there, and the talent in graphics is there, but the themes are not put together right so they end up unusable and not uniform, instep with the desktop.

Yes, I was using the beta when they first came out with it. I liked it a lot, especially having it within the browser but when I stopped using opera I switched to Evo and Balsa.Sweet! It was my fav for about a year but I got sick of the ads and hvaen't used it for about 2 years. Downloading now!Cool! I don't know what you use as an email client but M2 is definitely worth checking out IMO.

also, cairo cvs is 10x faster than 1.0.0 and that would be safer than enabling render with the same or greater results. All themes work for me.....must be archlinux :unsure:Thought it might be. As for the menu editor it wasn't in my menus either but the command is "gmenu-simple-editor". Thanks, I'll add that to xorg.conf later when I can be bothered :P . Mmm i'm liking the openbox + gnome combo even more, having a right click menu is all gnome was missing and now I have it!
the rt-click menu is one of the main reasons I like e17. You know, you can run openbox with the gnome panel and run nautilus w/ --no-desktop
-
Try turning off or down stuff in nautilus's preferences Preview and Display tabs

All themes work for me.....must be archlinux :unsure:Question time Mr bvc. Why do most themes not seem to work in gnome 2.12? Or is this an archlinux specific bug. Also why does the new gnome menu editor not able to add items or is this also an archlinux specific bug?I'm getting used to gnomes slowness, although I did make gnome use openbox instead and it's a little faster. I still can't believe cairo slowed it down this much...
Debian Sid has had problems to.
I d/k anything about the gnome menu editor. Where is that? It's not in my menu. ....but I rarely use my menu, so I don't have a need for it.
I guess you don't have nvidia?
Option "RenderAccel" "true"
in xorg.conf will dramatically speed up cairo. Because it doess aa fonts, I believe that is where the speed up is occuring. Or, try to reduce the amount of aa on your fonts? When I have
Option "RenderAccel" "true"
I can hardly tell a difference.

Clearlooks Cairo and Dropline Nuovo Icons
!WARNING!
#Option "RenderAccel" "true"

Here I'm messing around with bvcs themes :P
Trying to make a nature theme....still a long way, and man it takes a long time *sigh*
hehe...yes it does :o
I love the black trough on the sliders B)
Don't ya hate the way the volume control doesn't really use the notebook? ...looks silly. I hope they fix that. It's not like it's an xul app. Guess it's just bad coding.
Arrows are sharp too!
If it'll help, here's the scutum source images, or some...most...whatever garbage was left over. http://kwh.kernow-gb.com/~bvc/theme/devel/ScutumSRC.tar.gz

which is exactly why I use ubuntu. Much more usable and integrated after it is tweaked right by a good distro ;)Hmm... well, Gnome in Ubuntu is as tweaked as Mandrivas Gnome. Okay, Ubuntu has a newer Gnome release. But I get that with Fedora, too and it ain't tweaked. ;)
