  1. No folder. USB is looking more and more like the problem. I was finaly able to get my USB HD to work, but only after booting into the previous kernel. But, it's transfer rate is extremely slow. Do you think I should try the new kernel?
  2. It thinks it's printing, but there are no alternate drivers in CUPS setup. I tried setting it up on usb 0-6 with no change. I'm pulling my hair out now
  3. Ok, ignore that last post. That was just me being stupid. I was using my old root password. Forgot I did a fresh install of 10.0 OE. CUPS added the printer, no problem, and changed the location, but still nothing. CUPS says everything's fine, but jobs just sit there untill I delete them. I'm stumped
  4. Actually, I did enter my root information. I'll try logging in as root then running localhost:631
  5. Ok, tried localhost:631. It couldn't find a printer to configure. When I tried to add one, It kept asking for username and password. I'm not sure what It wanted because it didn't like my username and password.
  6. I am actually using GNOME. Not sure about this. Do I just type localhost:631 in the browser? Also I noticed that when I did a fresh install, there were 2 alternate kernels listed at boot. Should I try one of the others?
  7. New can of worms. Is there a thread explaining that somewhere?
  8. Have you messed with the "share a connection" option in MCC? If you have, it might be Shorewall, that's giving you a headache. Were you able to connect right after install?
  9. I'm using GNOME, so I tried to find the equivalent apps. I wasn't successfull. Insall completed with no problems. Recognized my printer during install. Printer is directed by Printdrake. But I'm not able to successfully print a test page. Printer just does nothing. I just noticed that It is set up to dev/lp0 - isn't that a parallel port? It should be a usb port. How do I figure out which port to set it on?
  10. I recently had to reinstall gproftpd, which isn't really the problem. The problem is that I used to be able to use an Icon to launch from GUI. When I reinstalled, I no longer can. It requires me to start from term as root. I read a post some while back about setting up an app such as this to launch from GUI, but for the life of me, I can't find It. If anyone remembers It, I would appreicate a link. So really I have 2 questions. 1. Any Idea why I would loose the ability to launch from GUI? 2. How do I make it work again? Any, and all help is appreciated in advance.
  11. There's Wine (that's the emulator's name - not saying that you're whining :D), but you could probably learn C++ quicker than making Wine work right. At least that's my experience
  12. Did you download the GUI and the core controller. I just noticed one is tar the other is RPM. Anyway, did you get both? If you have both, I could probably walk you thru.
  13. I recently switched out my home and office printers. I had both working in MDK 9.2 but have been unable to get either to work in 10.0 OE. Everything seems to be set up right. It is a USB printer so It might be related to THIS PROBLEM. If Any one could help me out, I would really appreciate it. 1.8 Ghz Pent. 256 M memory MDK 10.0 OE - GNOME Epson Stylus C62 (USB) - CUPS
  14. That's what I thought might be happening, but it's not even creating the directories. No entries in fstab at all. If anyone has any pointers, I'd really appreciate it.
  15. I just wiped my HD (windows partition is now gone) and freshly installed 10.0 OE. I really like it, but i've noticed that supermount is not mounting my USB zip drive or my USB HD. Have I made a mistake in the setup somehow? If not, could someone please help me with the correct entries in fstab to mount them myself. Back when I installed 9.2 I had to do this, but I'm afraid I've become a little rusty and don't quite remember how to do it.
  16. Overnet has worked well for me. I'm getting a total average of around 140 kbps down. Better than I ever got on kazaa lite. You can get it here: http://www.edonkey2000.com/downloads.php There's the core controller and if you want also a front end GUI In RPM.
  17. Not trying to get too inquisitive here, but, what is the diffrence between using the upgrade and install options? If install is saving some of the directories, what is upgrade doing? Just trying to get an idea of what is happening in my computer durring an install. I never learned what windows was doing, and consequently, never had a 100% (or even 70%) successfull install of that.

    AHHH!

:D I just meant that when triggered, Shorewall kills everything comming or going untill you reset it. It's as good as unplugging your comp. I'm installing OE right now, so It's good to know that they've "fixed it".
  19. Yeah, I'm going from CE to OE. I'm actually downloading disk 2 again, right now. If I want to keep my settings, and my Ftp server setup (those are the two most important things, allong with about 2 gig of media that I want to keep) what directories do I need to copy. Also, I'm running short on cd's right now, and am trying to conserve for some other business related projects. Would I be able to back those directories up to an external USB HD? If not, I'm sure I can spare some cds, but I would prefer not to.

    AHHH!

You mean I actually helped someone? Wohoo, I'm now a productive board member. Glad that was the problem. I almost reinstalled when I was having the problem. I decided to run down my checklist of possible causes one more time before I did. I'm glad I did. Does anyone know if that is some kind of MDK security feature? It seems that as soon as you start messing with sharing a connection, MKD raises that hellatious firewall?
  21. Ok, I just downloaded and burned the ISOs for OE last night. I tried to do an upgrade install today, but I guess I got a bad download or burn of disk 2, as It wouldn't recognize it durring install. I had to cancell out of that disk. The good news is that everything that I use on a regular basis still functions properly. None the less, I would like to start fresh. Right now my windows partition occupies about 80% of my HD. I want to get rid of windows completely. I've been reading other post and understand that I can do a fresh install without loosing my settings. I think. This wou ld be Ideal, as I have finaly got that ftp server running right, and would hate to have to set it up again. So, I guess what I need, is some advice on: 1. How to fresh install MDK 10.0 OE without loosing too much, and 2. How to rid myself of my windows partition in the process.
  22. I ended up just bringing my Epson home from the office and taking the Lexmark back. Just upgraded to 10.0 OE, so I'll see if everthing works now.
  23. I had the same prob. I'll look at what I did when I get home, and will post It if you haven't got it worked out by then.
  24. I guess I'm beyond help  . I suppose I'll try these new 10.0 OE ISOs that I downloaded and see if they straighten anything out.

    AHHH!

I've got a suggestion, and it may sound too simplistic, but I had the exact same problem after messing with the share a connection option. Ready? Check your firewall one more time. For some reason, when I messed with that share setting, MDK raised up one monster of a firewall that didn't let anything thru. I don't know why. I had the firewall compltetly off before my fiddling. It took me 5 days and about 30 post on this site before I figured it out. I got in and completely turned off the firewall, then rebooted (I know probably not necessary, but old Windows habits die slow). Everything worked fine after that. If this dosen't help, sorry. But It sounds exactly like the prob. that I had. Make sure you check the default firewall that comes with MDK, as well as any other that you may have installed.
