  1. Use the rpms from OOo (link). Install every one of the rpms (except the redhat and suse ones) with rpm -ivh *. Don't use urpmi because the dependencies are off. It will install in /opt/something where you will find startup scripts like swriter (or oowriter I dont remember exactly). Doubleclick those or run them from a console. (later you can add them to the startmenu)

ok i downloaded the rpm packages, but how do i install them exactly, do i doubleclick on the packages to run the install or if not, can i have the detailed command to enter ? I must say taht i am at a loss.

    :wall:

  2. yes, you can usually get your config-files to the new user account. but beware that you do not copy the openoffice-config files to the new account.

ps: one last idea/question: did you already try to uninstall openoffice, then remove all open-office related hidden folders and then reinstalling openoffice?

well, anyway, i would set up a completely new user. i have done that quite often (when everything was messed up :P) and it was not that much work. 30 minutes maximum. ;)

Ok, How do you copy all your settings fron one user to another ?

I tried to create a new user and then i copied all the files (except anything to do witn openoffice.org) in the new user folder, but when i tried to log on to the new user, i could not do it.

  3. just as i thought: everything works in other environments but you kde-home got killed...bad luck. the easiest way to get everything running again is: log in as root, open a file manager, rename your home folder and create a new one with your previous users name. e.g. rename folder /home/user1 to /home/blahblahblah. now create /home/user1 and assign this folder to user1 in the permissions section. now remove user 1. and now: recreate him (yes, i know it sounds silly, but that saves a lot of permission-fiddling). copy all important data you have in folder /home/blahblahblah to the newly created /home/user1 folder. now log in as normal user and everything should be working again.

Hello i tried thyis operation and the problem is still here. I think then since there is no solution, that i will uninstall open office for good and try to get another office application, because i do not want to recreate an other user (that would be a nightnare reciprocating all my usual settings, mails accounts, bookmarks, graphic interface, etc.)

I don't think i can copy all my settings into my new account, can i ?

    :wall:

  4. Yes it happens with every kde enviroment in the same user.

Is /.openoffice a hidden file ? Do i have to log on to root to remove it or can i log on to normal user ?

every /.xxx file is a hidden file. you can see them by activating "show hidden files" in the konqueror menu. you do not need to log in as root for that.

please create a new user-account (give it any name you want) and log in. start open office. does it happen there again? if yes, it is a system-bug, if not, it is only a minor issue in your specific user-environment.

    good luck.

i created another user and i opened open office and it works fine

i also tried to delete the /.openoffice folder but it does not solve the issue

  5. I'm not famailiar with this app but it's possible that "ksmoothdoc" may not be the proper command.  Check "man ksmoothdoc" for info, if there is one.  If not, try typing this in a terminal:

    rpm -ql ksmoothdoc

That will list all the files installed from the package and their locations.  Check the name of the executable and type the command exactly as it is named.  If that fails, look for any "ReadMe" or ther docs that were installed that may help.

Also might want to check permissions on the executable and see if only root is allowed to start it.

    Thanks for the info.

I was able to find it after all with the information you gave me and it works fine now.

  6. ahaaaaa..... comprendo!  right click on your panels in Oo. there will be an option to customize/add buttons your panel. you can try to add all icons there. maybe that is the easiest way to fix it.

I thought that i would post a snapshot of the openoffice.org interface so that you can see the pb by yourself.

This is what it look like when i open it .

This is only with this software that it happens and only with a specific user (in Kde environment)

  7. I installed Ksmoothdock on m mandrake 10.1 OE and this is a cool feature.

I wanted to install version 3.5.1 but when i try to install it from the source, an i run ./config in the console, it tells me :

Configure : error : C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check

    See "config.log2 for more details.

So since i was unable to install from the source, i downloaded the rpm package available.

Now my systems tell me that the ksmoothdoc-3.5.1 was successfully installed, but i cannot run the application. i cannot find ksmoothdock in my menu items and when i try the command ksmoothdock in the console, it tells me "batch command not found.

I desperately want to install an run this new version ince it has promising features.

  8. I would like to know how to put both kxdocker and ksmoothdock-3.3 on the botton of my screen so that i can benefit from the icon zooming and as well the pager showing the wallpaper of each desktop

when i activate extreme zom dans ksmoothdock-3.3 for the application icons, the pager witn wallpaper display disapears.

i tried to launch kxdocker witth ksmoothdock-3.3 but kxdocker overlap ksmoothdock-3.3 so the display is not good

ideally i would like to get the kxdocker effect on the bottomleft side of the screen and ksmoothdock-3.3 on the bottom right of the screen (with only the pager on it displaying the wallpaper for each desktop.

Does anyone knows as well how to make them automatically appear when mandrake loads.

  10. i installed gnome a few days ago just to get a taste of it but then i discovered some awesome graphic interface and applet for kde and now i would like to unistall gnome.

Can i do it safely without endangering my Mandrake 10.1 OE system ?

  11. just go to www.kde-look.org for superkaramba stuff and screenies.

in case you wanna install/use superkaramba, be aware of the version you are trying to use. i do know that some version were buggy (=crashing) and needed some fixing in the program-script itself. the newest version is running stable (tar.gz version) but you could also grab a new rpm from one of the mandrake-cooker mirrors and install it. it will come with some preinstalled apps (calendar, newsreader, sys-monitor,...) and works okay.

hello, i was just wondering which version should be good to download. Is that the SuperKaramba 0.35.2 or 0.35.3. ?

i tried t install the 0.35.3 but i only get this message :

cannot install superkaramba-0.35-3mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied libpython2.4.so.1.0)

  12. woop! Bizk, just do urpmi gdesklets and let it install them all for you.

Well, i installed kxdoxker but i do not know how to instal themes.

I tried to install some, but they do not show.

So i tried to install Superkaramba, but i was only able to install the 0.3.4 version and, apparently, the theme availables are only for version 0.3.5 . When i want to install version 0.3.5, i get this message :

Some package requested cannot be installed:

    superkaramba-0.35-3mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied libpython2.4.so.1.0)

Is there a way to install version 0.3.5 of superkaramba or to find available themes for version 0.34 or how to install theme for kxdocker ?

For example, i would really like to be able to install this specific theme :

    or this one :

  13. :D

well, if it is only the openoffice stuff that is missing, you can add it yourself with menudrake. take a look at menudrakes structure. it is quite self-explanatory. in case you really need help with the menu-tool, post back. :)

Well actuallu, this is the menu inside open office org wihci is missing.

hen you open Openoffice.org write for exeample, the menu bar has only dashes instead of the usual items like file, edit, view, etc)
