  1. I don't understand how to install Linneighborhood. I think I have installed it but don't find it anywhere to use it. Was hoping it would put a desktop icon up there to use.
  2. How do I see my Windows shares on my Network? I can Internet, email, and news groups, and instant messenger just fine. Just can't see any windows shares. Help! Thanks! [moved from Installing Mandrake by spinynorman]
  3. Since this discussion is about updating time on your Linux box, how can you update time from a logon script? I have a Windows NT 4 server that has a logon script to update the time to my 98 clients every time they logon to the server. Can this be done for my Linux 9.2 box? John
  4. How do I format and save files on floppies and zip disks? I tried saving a test document of open office to the floppy and zip disks and it wouldn't let me write to them. Also, can't seem to find out how to format these disks. john
  5. I went throught a manual installation of the wizard and configured the network manually. When I did, I set up a static IP and everything works even after a reboot to verify it. This seemed to fix it without looking at any of the config files yet. Would be nice to get DHCP working.......... John
  6. :D I figured this one out. Had to set up my name and address in Kmail and when I did, it sent mail. WaaaHOOOO! John
  7. I received this message when trying to send mail: The server did not accept the sender address. The server responded: "5.5.4 <John <>>... Domain name required for sender address " The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder. Note: Other messages will also be blocked by this message, as long as it is in the 'outbox' folder Can someone tell me why? Thanks, John
  8. I will check the files for the information and see if I can make sense out of them. The Windows server works fine as long as you have a user account on the server. So that part of Linux is not a problem. I think the problem with Linux is the config files. I know I have to set up the settings in Windows so my clients will talk. I assume that I will have to do the same in Linux. John
  9. Not behind a firewall, other Win98 clients work ok. Don't have one installed on the Linux box. I have a Windows NT4 server, with a router and cable modem. I set the gateway to the IP of the server. But DHCP doesn't work even though I use a known good login for a user account on the server. It worked before using a static IP, but won't now. Hope this helps.
  10. What is the name of the file you edit for the network settings? I am wondering if I can fix my network problem from the previous post by editing it. BTW, I reloaded 9.2 but I can't get connected at all no matter what I do in the drakconnect panel. Thanks for the help! John
  11. I am a newbie to Linux and tired of Windoze. I have Mandrake 9.2 and have DHCP enabled for the networking. When I look at the configuration screen, it shows I have an IP address from my Windows Server but the network shows not connected. And when tring to access the internet from kmail or konquerer it doesn't work. Gateway is set to the server just like the rest of the Win98 clients are. But, when I put in a FIXED IP, the internet works. What's wrong?
