I'm an opera user so I use opera's m2. Before that I used to used kmail.

A lot of us "old timers" no longer use Mandrake/Mandriva. I'm a Gentoo user myself. But I still hang around! ;)

You can try Abiword for a word processor and gnumeric for spreadsheets. Both are good programs.
-
You need to install tcl and tk. They should be on your installation cds. As root type urpmi tcl and then tk.

I would like to watch soccer matches on the Internet, at http://www.rossoalice.it but I can only do it with Windows. Would someone go to the site and see if they can use it, and then give me advice on what I might be missing? It's an Italian site, so you need to go to the site listed above, then click on the Sport window, then on the picture on the left, saying Live (for sports), then on the top right where it says: "Fai il test al tuo PC prima di acquistare e guardare" (translation: Do the test on your PC before buying and watching). Thank you. Doing it this way, you do not have to buy anything to see if it is possible to use the service.
I visited the page and it wouldn't play for me either. I did a view source and the plugins used are macromedia and shockwave. While there is a macromedia plugin for linux there is none for shockwave. That might explain why you can watch the movies in Windows but not in linux.

I bought some keyboard replacement keys and replaced my windows keys with tux keys. I also have one that says Linux and one that says RTFM. Can't think of where I ordered them from.

Registered user 279692. And you get a yearly reminder to renew or you drop off the list.

3: mystified) Transparent windows?
That's an option that's enabled in xchat. But in kde you can set transparencies for menus, taskbar, konsole, etc. Of course to have true transparencies you have to enable xcomposite which for some reason won't behave on my system.

Gentoo
If John Wayne had been a Linux user, he would have used Gentoo. Gentoo users are pioneers, people who like to live close to the metal, and don't mind hurting themselves on sharp objects. Some feel that Gentoo users are simply lazy louts who always want to have a ready excuse for why they are not doing constructive things with their computer, other than compiling or recompiling the latest kernel, app, or hapless passerby. The official Gentoo motto is, "If it moves, compile it."
Hey I can live with that :P

I suggest you read the thread creators post again, he didn't ask if there was better programs, he asked for everyones opinion on nero linux what does that have to do with k3b? Stop shoving your opinion down peoples throats. Also if you actually read his post, he wanted nero because he used it a lot in windows and it helps to have programs the same/similiar.
of course now i'm completely off topic, but whatever it needed to be said.
It is perfectly acceptable to express an opinion in the manner that scarecrow did. If you feel a post is inappropriate in anyway then please feel free to contact a moderator or admin so that we may address it.
Thank you

Get back here AI! You're prolly a cute little teddy bear in real life. :P

...notice the cute kitty on the terminal window :)
That is a cute kitty. How did you do that?
-
You need to try running it from command line and then posting the output here.

This isn't OTW. You can't discuss controversial subjects like windows and religion. Anymore talk of windows or religion and I'm moving this thread to OTW.
(I'm joking. Honestly!)

Yay! HJ's back in linux.
Cool screenies. :P

Check kde-look.org. They have plenty of karamba and superkaramba themes.

So far so good tyme. Thanks scarecrow but I don't use any "automounters." :)

I've been having a problem for about a month now where when I insert a dvd or cd in my dvd drive that it's not detected. I keep having to do chmod a+r /dev/hdc in order to get it to work.
I haven't changed my fstab but here it is.
/dev/hda7 / reiserfs notail 0 0 /dev/hda8 /home reiserfs notail 0 0 /dev/hda1 /mnt/mandrake reiserfs notail 0 0 /dev/hda6 /mnt/mandrake/home reiserfs notail 0 0 /dev/hda9 /mnt/lfs reiserfs notail 0 0 /dev/hda5 none swap sw $ /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto noauto,ro,user 0 0
Any ideas? This is rather annoying.

Mandrakesoft Security Advisories
Package name xine-lib
Date October 6th, 2004
Advisory ID MDKSA-2004:105
Affected versions 10.0
Synopsis Updated xine-lib packages fix multiple vulnerabilities
Problem Description
A number of string overflows were discovered in the xine-lib program, some of which can be used for remote buffer overflow exploits that lead to the execution of arbitrary code with the permissions of the user running a xine-lib-based media application. xine-lib versions 1-rc2 through, and including, 1-rc5 are vulnerable to these problems.
As well, a heap overflow was found in the DVD subpicture decoder of xine-lib; this vulnerability is also remotely exploitable. All versions of xine-lib prior to and including 0.5.2 through, and including, 1-rc5 are vulnerable to this problem.
Patches from the xine-lib team have been backported and applied to the program to solve these problems.

ssh problem [solved]
in Networking
Posted
I have a router with port 22 open. I can successfully ssh into another computer in my network. But if someone tries to ssh into my box or I try to ssh into their box I get connection refused. This happens in both Mandrake and Gentoo which is why I'm posting it here. Don't think it's a distro problem.
