  2. Linux localhost 2.6.17-5mdv #1 SMP Wed Sep 13 14:32:31 EDT 2006 i686 Intel® Xeon CPU 2.00GHz GNU/Linux

this is what i got when running uname -a

I don't see no option to upgrade the kernel.

    Jase

  3. Oh, in Mandriva 1007.1 you only need to install the "kernel-latest" package and your system will automatically upgrade to the newest kernel if you have some software mirrors set up. No recompiling an kernel-source downloading necessary (unless you want to recompile the kernel)

So i guess i could atempt this tonight, I wonder if it will help any ? Is there a command i can run in terminal that will tell me the kernal version ?

What version should i be running ?

I love terminal but im not used to all these special command's..

I am curiouse to know what the command is that will tell me the spu info and other things :P

    Jase..

p.s thanks for your help guys :P

  4. There was a usb-bug in the default kernel, but it was not only in the betas but still existed in the final release. However, there is an updated kernel available from the mirrors that fixes the problem.

Ill see if there is any updates to do tonight.

Is updating the kernal really hard ? Don't you hav to compile do update the kernal ?

  5. I keep getting Errors when plugging in external drives. When i plug in any USB / Firewire drives i get Invalid Mount Option. what does this mean ? i searched this form before asking but found nothing. ? Any one get this error too ?

I can plug in one that is formatted Fat 32, it works but the other NTFS ones don't. Do i need all of them formatted to Fat32 ?

Thanks in advanced Guy's you all rock.

  8. I have curently installed Mandriviaon my new Xeon 3gig box with a Nvidia Quadro4 900 XGL with DUal DVI ports, it detects the monitor and installes all the 3D goodies but i cannot get dual monitors working. When i ran mandrake 9.1 on my older system running a matrox g4 dual head it always asked me if i wanted to use xinerama support. In Mandrivia, i cant figure out how to install it. When i log in to the desktop you get the Nvidia driver logo so i can see that the driver is installed > Or is it ?

Can any one help me on this ? ask me lots of questions if need be. I want to run my Dual 22" lcd's and would love to convert my winodws drive to linux ( yes remove windows and only use mandrivia)

    Please help

  11. Most likely, you need to disable "standby on Lid closed" (or something similar to that) in BIOS.

There is nothing in the bios to turn off lid and stuff it is software driven. I'm a dell DCSE certified tech : O ) * just thought i would add that for any one that needs help wtih dell stuff * Also it is a radeon 16mb video card. with screen res of 1024 x 768..

  12. Is there a way to make it when i close the lid on my laptop the laptop doesnt go to sleep ? I have a Dell C610 PIII 1gig with 40gig hard drive and mandrake 10.1 ?

Also is there a app that i can use to watch the battery life ? I like leaving my laptop on and closing the lid. Any one help ?

  13. its the exact same card. do yo have a link that i can follow for instructions step for step eveen installing the NDiswrapper ? it is a brand new fresh install of mandrake 10.1 Id like to use this instead of WINDOWS yuk!

  14. I have a new laptop running mandrake 10.1 just installed fresh. I was wondering if any one has instructions or has been able to get there Netgear MA521 card working with the (8180 chipset) ? Can any one help me please or give me a link.

  15. Iv'e been using mnf for about a year and a half it is sweet software. BUT when ever i have enabled dhcp for the lan. it works BUt if the firewall for some reason has been restarted or shut down and turned back on the dhcp fails and doesn't boot up properly.. has any one else had this same problem also ?
