  1. I tried that in Mint, didn't work. Maybe I should try the legacy driver? Kind of strange that the driver don't handle that resolution, but I did some googling, and have seen other successfully gotten 1366x768 using nVidia's proprietary driver, so I guess it is a combination of hardware and driver issue...

  2. Well, it is pretty much a driver issue. I get the correct resolution if I use nv in both Mint and OpenSuSE 11, but the second I install the nVidia driver, I am thrown back to 1280x1024. This is the case with both 169.12 and the one available through Envy NG, and the one available in OpenSuSE. Seems like I have a choice between accelerated graphics and correct resolution.

  3. Just another note, I have had some issues using ndiswrapper below version 1.48. It was causing a kernel panic in Mint. Not sure if it was a ndiswrapper issue or a Mint / Ubuntu issue, though.

And in Ubuntu you have to add b43 and ssb to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and ndiswrapper to /etc/modules, in Mandriva I think I just ran the Wireless configuration utility.

  4. This is after removing the newer version of the driver:

    kernel-desktop-latest-2.6.24.5-2mnb1

    nvidia-current-kernel-2.6.24.4-desktop-1mnb-169.12-4mdv2008.1

    kernel-desktop-2.6.24.5-2mnb-1-1mnb1

    nvidia-current-kernel-desktop-latest-169.12-1.20080612.4mdv2008.1

    kernel-desktop-2.6.24.4-1mnb-1-1mnb1

    kernel-headers-2.6.24-6mnb1

    kernel-desktop-devel-2.6.24.4-1mnb-1-1mnb1

    nvidia-current-kernel-2.6.24.5-desktop-2mnb-169.12-4mdv2008.1

    dkms-2.0.19-4.3mdv2008.1

    dkms-minimal-2.0.19-4.3mdv2008.1

    dkms-nvidia-current-169.12-4mdv2008.1

    2.6.24.5-desktop-2mnb

I also compared those nvidia packages to the one available for the newer driver, and found that the nvidia-currrent-kernel was missing. I also ran a test last night, using the Linux Mint 5 live CD, where I could run at 1366x768 using the nv driver (I think, xorg.conf is not complete under a live session, it seems). The newest version in the repositories is 173.14.09, just checked with the nVidia site, the newest available from them is 177.13

And I have all repositories enabled, even PLF, was one of the first things I did, using Easy-Urpmi here. I don't have any of the backports or testing repositories enabled, though.

  5. It looks like it, but it is actually 15.something, I guess they have just rounded it off. I am pretty sure it has something to do with the nVidia driver, and I just noticed it was a newer version available in the repository (I use 169.12 I think).

But when I installed it, urpmi did not remove the old one, will this matter? I am used to debian based distributions, I feel a bit lost in Mandriva at times, but I can't help loving it :)

    EDIT:

That was not a good idea, no X after the "update". Changed to vesa, got actually 1280x1024, I think, which more or less confirmed it to be a driver issue....

  6. Post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log .

It said: "(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1366x768"; removing."

Complete log attached, the only thing I notice is that it calls my screen CRT-0, while it isn't a CRT screen. But since it is just a name, that shouldn't matter?

    Xorg.txt

  7. Open the Mandriva control centre>hardware>set up the graphical server>resolution. From the drop down list choose other, this should give you a much bigger list of resolutions. Does that solve the problem?

The Mandriva Control Center is set to 1366x768, but the actual resolution is 1280x720. That is why I find it so weird..

    EDIT:

Same issue in KDE, KRandR won't go above 1280x720.

Funny thing is that nVidia settings display it as CRT-0, doubt that it matters though.

  9. I have just installed Mandriva on a desktop with a nVidia card:

03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV44 [GeForce 6200 LE] (rev a1)

And today I was messing about with the fonts, as they are a bit blurry, and checking nVidia Display Settings I saw the resolution was set to 1280x720, same with System - Preferences - Screen Resolution, but drakconf showed the resolution to be 1366x768 (the correct one). Just to be sure, I took a screenshot and checked, it was 1280x720. I found that strange, so I thought I had to change xorg.conf, but cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep Mode gave me this:

So clearly xorg.conf is correct, but the Screen Resolution utility does not allow me to increase the resolution above 1280x720. Could it be limitation in with hardware? If so, strange, I ran the max resolution on this screen with a much older Intel card. And I seem to remember that this same card allowed me to run it at 1366x769 in Windooze.

Running Mandriva 2008 Spring (Powerpack), currently in GNOME but I have KDE installed as well, and running Compiz. Will check if I get the correct resolution in KDE, but I would prefer it to be correct in GNOME as well...

  10. I haven't done anything, installed Mandriva 2008.1, then I noticed that my PS3 finds the desktop as a Mediaserver, wondering what it is, and how to configure it. I think this is limited to Powerpack though, as one never had this "issue".

I was hoping anyone knew what this was, and if it is a Mediaserver I want to use it, but I want to change the shared folders, as the current ones seems like configuration folders.

  11. I installed Powerpack on my desktop, and everything flows just nicely at the moment, but I notice that when I have that desktop running, my PS3 detects it as an media server, and allows me to browse some of the folders (most of them called gconf).

I know that the PS3 use UPnP, but I didn't know that Powerpack came with this "pre installed", but if it does, I want to use it. Anyone have any idea what this is? And how I can configure it?

  12. Sorry, didn't think it mattered. Anyway, I found another work around with this: Open CCSM, and general options. Select desktop size tab and make sure you set it to 1 horizontal and 1 vertical, then you just adjust "Number of desktops" you want. The only drawback I can see is that you will loose the desktop cube..

  13. OK, after some brilliant debugging on my part, I have deduced that this is caused by Compiz. I deactivated Compiz, restarted X, and logged in, was able to change the settings then. So I re enabled Compiz, restarted X, problem is back. I'll look through CCSM to see if I can change it there. Anyone have a general idea on where to look?

  14. Yeah, I've seen that, but one of the reasons I went for Mandriva was that it did not use KDE4, I don't think KDE4 is ready for average Joe right now..

As for the issue at hand, I'll look some more, but this is really just a minor annoyance, all the important things works (and works well).

  15. Thanks, I'll be looking my self, I was just a bit puzzled, because I have done this several times, just had to make sure I wasn't going blind or something.. But I am glad this is the *only* issue I have with Mandriva 2008.1 post installation, and I have tried MANY distributions on this computer and ALL had some major issue post installation. Sorry for my rambling, I'm just so pleased I got a distribution working the way I wanted it (almost) out of the box :D

  16. Right-click on your taskbar (panel) > Configure panel > Taskbar > untick 'show windows from all desktops'

    Welcome to the board! :)

    Hey.

Thanks for help and the welcome (and sorry for the wrong forum). This is how I am used to do this, but I can't find that option when I open Configure.

    184795.jpeg

Hopefully it is not me being stupid and it was there all along, but I really can't find this option..

  17. I just installed Mandriva on my desktop and was surprised to see ALL my hardware was supported out of the box, all other distributions I have tried so far have had issues with at least one of the components. But when I was trying to configure KDE to my liking, I got stomped at the taskbar. Default is to show all windows from all desktops, but I just want windows from current desktop. I have changed this setting a million times on other distributions, but I can't for the life of me find it this time around. Anyone out there who could give me a push in the right direction?
