  1. Thanks. It wasn't exactly the same problem as mentioned in the other post. I had to click on the Albums button, the one with Albums written vertically in upper left of screen and just above the Calendar button. After that I was able to see the thumbnail images and click on View in the normal way.
  2. So you want to spoof a MAC address? Just use a search engine with the following terms: spoof mac address linux
  3. Kicker applets don't work with KDE 4? I see Kima is in the 2009.0 repository. Is there something else I can use to monitor CPU speed?
  4. I recently upgraded to Mandriva 2009.0 and added all updates. Everything seems to be working well except that DigiKam (version 0.10.0-beta3 running under KDE 4.1.2) opens and shows sub-folders within the ~/Pictures/ directory it should, but I can't seem to display any of the images or image file names. Is anyone else having this problem?
  5. Well, I think it has something to do with the fact that not all media sources are automatically updated. For example, the package list of the "main" media source does not normally need to be updated, as changes are made in "main_updates". There is a way to update the package list from this part of the repository, but it was not mentioned in the upgrade instructions at the Wiki (at least not that I saw), and I didn't think to do it until today. In the Software Manager I used the Update Media function, Select all, and in that way I updated all media. After that I used "urpmi --auto --auto-select --replacefiles" and saw that many more 2009.0 programs were added. I then edited my previous post to reflect current package status. Unfortunately dbus is still not recognizing my USB drives. I am still investigating, but may soon do a fresh install of 2009.0 from CD.

  7. I had already done the "urpmi.removemedia -a" command and added the 2009.0 repositories before starting the upgrade. I used the following commands to add the new repositories. urpmi.addmedia --update plf-free http://plf.dcc.fc.up.pt/mandriva/2009.0/free/release/binary/i586/ with media_info/hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia --update plf-nonfree http://plf.dcc.fc.up.pt/mandriva/2009.0/non-free/release/binary/i586/ with media_info/hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia main http://spout.ussg.indiana.edu/linux/mandrake/official/2009.0/i586/media/main/release with media_info/hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia --update main_updates http://spout.ussg.indiana.edu/linux/mandrake/official/2009.0/i586/media/main/updates with media_info/hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia contrib http://spout.ussg.indiana.edu/linux/mandrake/official/2009.0/i586/media/contrib/release with media_info/hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia --update contrib_updates http://spout.ussg.indiana.edu/linux/mandrake/official/2009.0/i586/media/contrib/updates with media_info/hdlist.cz At preset, "urpmi --auto-select" says: "Packages are up to date".
  8. I upgraded from 2008.0 to 2009.0 using the procedure given here. All went well at first, but when I rebooted into the new 2009.0 installation, kima was gone from the Panel. I tried the Add Aplet to Panel' function but Kima does not appear there. Rpmdrake does however show that kima is installed. I am still using KDE 3.5.10. Does the new Kima require KDE 4?
  9. I upgraded from 2008.0 to 2009.0 using the procedure given here. All went well at first, but when I booted into the new 2009.0 installation my USB drives are not recognized. I think this has something to do with dbus. From within Rpmdrake I see the following packages show the 'red dot with horizontal bar' error icon in the Status column. dbus libdbus-1_3 libdbus-glib-1_2 What could be the problem with dbus?
  10. The Trendnet TV-IP100 is an Ethernet IP camera. I suspect the problem is related to the following error messages which I see repeated in the zmwatch.log file. 11/13/08 19:33:05.312900 zmwatch[6794].ERR [Can't get shared memory id '7a6d0002', 2: No such file or directory] 11/13/08 19:33:05.313416 zmwatch[6794].INF [Restarting capture daemon for TV-IP100, shared memory not valid] 11/13/08 19:33:05.610392 zmwatch[6794].INF ['zmc -m 2' starting at 08/11/13 19:33:05, pid = 7607] I wonder if ZoneMinder is in Mandriva's 2009.0 repo? I didn't find it in the 2008.0 repo, not sure how to look in the 2009.0 repo as I'm still using 2008.0. How do I make a package request to the Mandriva package makers?
  11. Would you know which piece of software is responsible for sending ZoneMinder's control packets to the network camera? I configured ZoneMinder for my Trendnet TV-IP100 network camera, but get no image from the camera because no ZoneMinder packets are reaching the camera or appearing on the LAN.
  12. Yes, that was it. I added apache-mod_php and now the ZoneMinder console appears in the browser window as it should. Thanks!
  13. Yes, the zm directory is populated with ZoneMinder files. [user@evo html]$ pwd /var/www/html [user@evo html]$ ls -al total 28 drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 2008-11-10 20:51 ./ drwxr-xr-x 7 apache apache 4096 2008-11-10 20:51 ../ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2008-11-10 20:46 addon-modules/ -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3638 2007-09-07 13:47 favicon.ico -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 44 2007-09-07 13:47 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 513 2007-09-07 13:47 robots.txt drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 2008-11-10 21:31 zm/ [user@evo html]$ There is a file /var/www/html/zm/index.php, it's softlinked to zm.php in the same directory. I can load http://127.0.0.1/zm/index.php into a Firefox window, it displays as php code.
  14. According to the Control Center, mysqld, httpd and zm services are running and configured to start on boot. I know that httpd is working, it will serve other files in the www directory such as http://127.0.0.1/robots.txt and http://127.0.0.1/addon-modules/HOWTO_get_modules.html. netstat -tunlp Active Internet connections (only servers) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:2273 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 6242/mysqlmanager tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:6000 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 5733/X tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 5985/httpd tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:631 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 5910/cupsd tcp 0 0 :::6000 :::* LISTEN 5733/X tcp 0 0 :::631 :::* LISTEN 5910/cupsd udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:32768 0.0.0.0:* 5493/avahi-daemon: udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:68 0.0.0.0:* 5212/dhclient udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:69 0.0.0.0:* 5679/xinetd udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:5353 0.0.0.0:* 5493/avahi-daemon: udp 0 0 192.168.100.11:123 0.0.0.0:* 6024/ntpd udp 0 0 127.0.0.1:123 0.0.0.0:* 6024/ntpd udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:123 0.0.0.0:* 6024/ntpd udp 0 0 fe80::208:2ff:fe93:e06e:123 :::* 6024/ntpd udp 0 0 ::1:123 :::* 6024/ntpd udp 0 0 :::123 :::* 6024/ntpd
  15. I am using Mandriva 2008.0. After following the instructions for installation of ZoneMinder (here), Zoneminder failed to run. The installation process seemed to complete successfully, but after opening my web browser to http://127.0.0.1/zm I got a 403 error. Can this be fixed or should I give up and try the ZoneMinder live CD? Because the installation took several hours, I'm wondering if ZoneMinder will ever be added to the Mandriva repos? What is the package request procedure?
  16. Is that available in a PCMCIA version with connector for external antenna?
  17. Why not use ndiswrapper and the Windows XP driver to get WPA? I will get a newer PCMCIA WiFi card when I learn which make/model is Linux-compatible and has an external antenna connector. Anyone want to suggest a make/model for me?
  18. I am still using 2008.0 and have had difficulty connecting to my WiFi router using WPA and my Orinoco Gold WiFi card. I read somewhere that the issue was not fixed in 2008.1, so I didn't upgrade. Does anyone know if we will be able to configure WPA and WPA2 encryption easily in 2009.0?
  19. Thanks to all those who replied. I did some reading over at http://distrowatch.com/ and found three small distros that seem as if they will do nicely. The three are Damn Small, Puppy, and TinyMe. I have not tried any of them yet. Puppy looks like the one I'll try first because of the way it runs from RAM. I am not sure if the others can easily be made to runs from RAM, but the descriptions for Puppy includes this; "Puppy boots into a 64MB ramdisk, and that's it, the whole caboodle runs in RAM". If that works well I won't need the hard disk.
  20. I have an old laptop computer. It's 200MHz, 2gb hard drive, 128mb RAM. I want to load one of the small Linux distros. The only special application I need is a SIP VoIP client. Anyone have an idea about which of the micro-distros would be best?
  21. I added java-1.7.0-icedtea-plugin and it works now. Thanks!
  22. I am using 2008.0. I used the command urpmi --auto java-1.7.0 to install some java stuff but I still don't seem to have Java available to Firefox version 2.0.0.13. What is the package name I need to have Java in Firefox?
  23. For editing in a terminal try nano. It is easy to use and has all the important commands listed at the bottom of the window. If you are editing files with long lines that should not wrap, start it with the w option: nano -w file_name
  24. If you already have 2008.1 RC2 (mandriva-linux-2008-spring-rc2-one-KDE-int-cdrom-i586.iso) and you want the official released version (mandriva-linux-one-2008-spring-KDE-int-cdrom-i586.iso) you can save time and bytes by using rsync. Open a command console in the directory of your RC2 iso file and rename it to the same name as the 2008.1 Final, or make a copy. I made a hard linked copy like this: ln mandriva-linux-2008-spring-rc2-one-KDE-int-cdrom-i586.iso mandriva-linux-one-2008-spring-KDE-int-cdrom-i586.iso Issue the following command: rsync -aP distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr::pub/linux/MandrivaLinux/official/iso/2008.1/mandriva-linux-one-2008-spring-KDE-int-cdrom-i586.iso ./ You will then see: receiving file list ... 1 file to consider mandriva-linux-one-2008-spring-KDE-int-cdrom-i586.iso 730503168 100% 147.75kB/s 1:20:28 (xfer#1, to-check=0/1) sent 189082 bytes received 271055291 bytes 48285.60 bytes/sec total size is 730503168 speedup is 2.69 As you can see, I only downloaded 271055291 bytes, that's 37.1% of the file, and yet I got the whole 2008.1 iso file which is a 730503168 byte file. This method may also work with other ISOs that have much in common.
  25. About the WPA drakconnect WiFi scripts you mentioned, are these scripts used only during WPA configuration or are they used whenever connecting with WPA? Do we have the same issue with WPA2 scripts? If the WPA-PSK scripts are in 2008.0, then I'm not sure why I had a problem trying to set up WPA-PSK mode with my Orinoco and Airlink cards.
