  1. I have a bunch of mp3 / ogg / mpc I would like them to use the same name : say band/album/year/title.mp3 Is there a programm which can do this connecting to the Internet to get the info ? @++ V
  2. yep, that's the one i'm using. Exactly what version of macosx theme are you using ?
  3. What partition sheme do you use ? On a desktop system, i go the simple route of just one partition for / and the other for /home. I have never experience problem with this, execpt on a debian box where downloaded packages are kept.
  4. spinnynorman : yes this is exactly what i'm talking about. And there were some "casino" at the end... Gowator : I started with water cooling 6 years ago ! I event made some test wih a 172w pelletier cooler which was able to heat 100L of water in half an hour :) zen waterfalls are nice, but i think the most efficient way is to do like in a shower (it's the same on nuclear plant). Evaporating allows the temperature of the water received to be cooler than the air temperature ! But it's not as beautiful as a zen waterfall :)
  5. raid0 for /swap is not necessary. If you put 2 swap space on 2 different hard drives with the same priority, the linux kernel will naturally have a raid0 like behaviour !
  6. Nice ! I will try that. Is it possible to choose between raid 0 and raid 1 ?
  7. Do mandrake installation allows to setup a raid array righ in the beginning of the installation ? Or do we have to use mdadm after installation ?
  8. Well, i spent around 2 weeks other there, in may or june (can't remember), and it didn't rain ! There are some typical wood construction on the see, that i have never seen elswhere... Back to my mythtv box, i put the zalman heatskin on my celeron 1200, fan less. So now my box is fanless except for the powersupply. I have a seagate barracuda 4, and the box is really quiet ! In fact i discovered that my monitors (iiyama 17' crt) were now making some noise ! May be flat panel monitors are really noiseless ? The temp of my cpu is pretty high at around 65 celcius degrees. I may have to put a quiet fan on it do keep things cool.
  9. Ok, bluetac is mastic ! I understand now. Thank you all for your explanations. (spinynorman : i've been in southend, nice place ! the english "cote d'azur" :) Mikeoneil : thanks for the tip ! This looks interesting. I think i'd rather make my setup display on both tv and monitor, so that i can do everything on tv (chose the film...) if needed, and also have access to what music to play on tehe monitor... I've looked at the 2.6, but it seems not officially supported as of now...
  10. Hum, powerdown, that sounds like a good idea. I don't have too much ram sadly :( I've also have got a "silent drive" housing, but i think it's limited to 5400rpm drives. Is this "bluetac" "du scotch double face epais" ? Something wich can stick mirrors ? One other question to pvr350 owners : do the drivers work with kernel 2.6 ?
  11. maconeil : Thanks for your answer. If i understand well, you are using your video card as output, wich is connecter to your monitor and to your tv. How do you display only the video on the TV ? What video card do you have ? I've got nvidia GF4 card, i was only able to do this in windows. With linux, i have to setup a 640*480 display to have the tv out. I think it will put a old GeForce1 on the mythtv box, if nvtv works with it. (i didn't get any sucess with my GF4) Gowator : Thanks for the tip. I've already looked at that. In fact my mythtv box will be my actual desktop, with the change from a wintv pci to a pvr350. Right now my system is very stable overclocked from 1200->1333 so it should be ok. I will run it at default speed (1200). For my celeron it's a 28W output, 32W max. I just got yesterday a huge zalman heatskin, along a 92mm fan with speed control. I will make some test with only the zalman in passive cooling and add the 92mm fan @ 5V if needed. I may also open up my power block (alimentation) to remove the fan (warning high volts this is dangerous). I have some special material for phonic isolation too. My last problem is to find the quitest harddrive, parallel ata, 120go. I plan to mount it suspended by springs (elastiques).
  12. PVR 350 owners : Is it possible to use at the same time the tvout founction of the card along a classical video card connected to a monitor ?
  13. I'm trying to do use a complete mac look on my box (mdk 9.2.1). I use aqua themes and icones, but now i would like to have a "dock" It seems that i need to use superkaramba and a theme. But there are several ones at kde look. wich one is the best ?
  14. http://www.mygalles.com/article.php3?id_article=5 http://www.eclipsedvd.fr.st/ very nice, but looks down ate the moment. Enjoy ! vincent
  15. Nice ! I've heard freevo was a bit slower, and less ffeatured than pythtv, but easier ton install... Could you tell us the hardware you are using ?
  16. Well i'm using cooker at home, and i must say that since 1 week, it become really stable (i haven't submit aƩny bug report). nyvals as released mdk rpm for mandrake 10. They are even more to date than the plf ones (anyway he is the plf provider). Now i have to check that hauppauge pvr350 drivers work with kernel 2.6. I will let you now how this works.
  17. i haven't myself, but i know people who did with success. can you read french ?
  18. I have decided to put my actual board (asus tusl2 + celeron 1200) in my divx box, with a zalman 7000 (passive cooling, with underclocking and undervolting. So i'm going tu use my athlon 1000 + via chipset as my main desktop. I will do some tests for the stability. my divx box gonna be : tusc2c + celeron 1200 + zalman 512M ram a silent DD (i had a good seagate, but the new ones seems more noisy?) old power supply with fan removed acoustic absorber inside case dvd reader 3com netrwork card sb live sound card hauppauge pvr350 tv/radio card The tvout function is supported for this card. Now the question is : i want also an output on a monitor (for fast choosing of witch mp3 to play for example) So i may had a geforce1 with tv output fan less ? software : minimal mandrake 10 + mythtv xfs file system on big partition (good for huge files).
  19. I use it to exchange PhD documents with other students around the world :) Ho, and some cooking "recettes" also :) the donkey network seems much more popular in europe (france + germany) than in the US...
  20. This is old stuff. Mldonkey easily connects to emule ! Mldonkey is THE P2P programm to have. I recommend you use a recent version of mldonkey because it is more efficient. I have used it for more than one year with great success. It is setup on my router, and i control it with kmldonkey on my desktop. Very nice ! You'd better check out www.mldonkey.org for your problems
  21. Sorry i can't help about your lirc problem. I've been trying to install mythtv from plf, and i got kind of the same error as yours : a missing lib finishing with a capital O. i thought all libs were ending with a little o... I'm planning in building the same box has yours. May i ask some questions ? 1- is your radio tunner on the hauppauge working ? 2- what processor power would you recommend for a dedicated system ? V
  22. In fact i don't have any experience on the epia. But i do have a motherboard with a via chipset (kt133a) and this board has never been stable. I've got friends with the same problems. May be now the quality of their products is better, but it used to be poor.
  23. epia... I'm not fond of via. I think you'd better go with a old classic amd or intel with a nice huge passive heatskin (or thermal pipe)
  24. about haupauge cards: there is a radio tuner inside. The pvr 350 has build in hadrware compression and uncompression for mpeg2. this is the one to buy ! the 250 doesnt have hardware decompression, and is only usefull as a sister card of the 350 for recording 2 things at one time
  25. I think directFB is not so good because there is no hardware acceleration. Here is some info about this project: Haupaugge PVR is the card to have for video recording (mpeg all in hardware). With this hardware solution, one doesn't need a strong processor. A 400MHz is enough ! You only need a strong processor to convert mpeg2 to divx, but this can be done on another computer with the network. One needs a good HD. A dedicated partion for data is recommended. XFS is the best for handling large files. Mythtv stores info in my sql database, whereas freevo does not. Mythtv use a front end and a backend that can be on separate computers. for example you may have the tv tuner card not in the computer where you watch tv ! Mythtv PLF packages are broken right now on cooker, but a new version is on the works. What have you fond on your side ?
